Ricky Williams out for season

In need of running back help because of an ankle injury to Jesse Chatman, the Dolphins activated halfback Ricky Williams from the league's exempt list.

The Dolphins had until December to make a decision on Williams, but Chatman is listed as questionable with an ankle injury and wasn't moving well toward the end of the week. To make room for Williams, the Dolphins released running back Samkon Gado.

Williams is returning to the NFL after 18 months. He served a drug suspension that was extended from May until two weeks ago on the recommendation of the league's drug counselor. This summer, Williams moved to Boston and spent time with drug counselors reviewing his life and past habits.

It is not known whether he will be on the active roster for tonight's game against the Steelers (ESPN, 8:30 ET), but it is likely. Williams had a great week of practice and players on the team remarked how well he did and how much of an asset he could be for this game.

Might be more about showcasing Rickey to trade him in the off-season.

Ah-ha!! Thats a good point, because at the end of the day Gado is not their future and they should have Ronnie Brown back next season. Since this season is shot for the Dolphins (although I am rooting for a perfect season), why not???

I can't imagine Williams having any trade value at all....I don't think anyone will give a pick for a back that hasn't played for years and is a chronic (no pun intended) substance abuser/policy offender. He may back up Brown next year or be cut, but I can't see anyone giving anything for him.

Eh, I'd give a 7th for him.

Gado didn't make the team because he isn't that good. never saw the field with Miami before Williams came back. and that was with some banged-up guys ahead of him.

and i think with Chatman and possible Lorenzo Booker behind him, i bet Ricky is traded to the highest bidder in the offseason. they're obviously rebuilding.

C'mon now... The Raidahs would gladly trade something away for Williams. Not that they are in need of a running back mind you, but because he 'fits in'. Seriously though, there is some desperate sucker team out there that would offer something for Williams - maybe not much. But if you're Miami take whatever may be offered.

He won't be worth much if his shoulder's torn up from that cheap shot that he took from James Harrison. That **** was messed up.

Holy schnikees that is just epic. The Dolphins are cursed due to the old farts and their stupid ass champagne.

Spec, your posts always crack me up, but I need help with this one. How does "Blunt's" injury equate to champagne again?!? LMFAO!!!

Ricky Williams out for the year. and epic return indeed.

That just sucks. Will they pick Samkon back up?

In a somewhat related matter, after watching the game last night I have concluded that Chatman is a terrible blocker. He got blown up on multiple occasions. He isn't a terrible runner but he doesn't have what it takes to stay in this league, IMO.

yeah that's why losing Brown sucked that much more. the BEST back in the league at blocking for his QB. absolutely. oh and he caught the ball as well as any WR in the league, etc etc.

as for Gado, yeah they'll probably pick him back up.

It does not in the real world realm of things. But if you are a conspiracy theorist, then the Old guys and champaign leads to the Pats going undefeated in the same year the Dolphins lose all of their games.

It was mostly a joke because of a debate that was had about a month ago regarding the champaign after the last team loses a game.

The champagne toast the '72 team has when the last undefeated team loses every year?

Beleive me I know. I am one of their biggest detractors and have made plenty of posts on how these guys come across as bitter old men.

It was a rhetorical question - really. I just love the way Spec can take far left field and turn it into far right field.. He has the off the wall sense of humor that I can appreciate.

Easy solution....don't fumble the ball.

yes but besides the fumble who knows.. he still got stepped on and it was in a very tough spot

when we are talking step that is (I assume ) at least 200 lbs coming on your back below the shoulder blade

I actually cringed seeing that in slow mo

I am not defending Ricky for fumbling ..it was an awkward thing

This will be the real test to see if he's really changed his ways or not. Out for the season & nothing to do but stand & watch..........will he revert back to old form?

I personally thought the stepping on his back was bushleague. The guy planted pretty hard, fumble or not. Just looked that way.

Do you think it was on purpose? Most people who know about it and saw it thought it was flagrant. Truthfully, while watching the game I just thought he was rampantly chasing the ball down and happen to step on Ricky. It sounds like I might be wrong.

It sucks for Ricky. I actually found myself rooting for him when he came into the game. I was a bit surprised to see him on the field so soon.

I think it was on purpose but I'm not going to judge in the heat of the game. Just seemed that way to me.

Guarantee you if Tom Brady's season ended with someone intentionally stepping on him, the media would be screaming bloody murder. Because it's Willims the media treats it like it's a joke.
