surprised nobody has brought this up, but I thought it was an interesting exercise & would like to see y'alls do over mock draft either original or past tense for entertainment purposes only. here is the chrons to get things started: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/5306615.html

THE ORIGINAL TOP 10

Lance Zierlein Blog - A Veiw from the sideline

1. Texans - Vince Young: While VY certainly has his issues I still think the Texans would prefer to work with him within that offense and keep the two 2nd round picks they gave up for Schaub.
2. Saints - Reggie Bush: Remember that the Saints were trying to recover from the effect of Katrina and Bush has meant so much to their marketing that I don't think they would change a thing.
3. Titans - Joseph Addai: The Titans drafted Lendale White in the 2nd round of the 2006 draft but in my scenario, I would have the Titans figuring out their running game with Addai.
4. Jets - Mario Williams: While Texans fans are disenchanted with Williams, the Jets would love to have Williams since he would be a perfect fit in their 3-4 scheme.
5. Packers - Laurence Maroney: The Packers have needed a good running back for awhile now and the size/speed of Maroney would be a great fit for the Packers.
6. 49'ers - Marcus McNeil: The 49'ers offensive line has been a problem for them and with McNeil on the board here, I think they would grab him to help protect Alex Smith.
7. Raiders - Jay Cutler: The Raiders should have taken Cutler with this pick in the first place and this time around they grab the cannon-armed Cutler to lead the offense.
8. Bills - A.J. Hawk: The Bills need for a LB was a given in 2006 and Hawk has been rock-steady since he came into the league. Hawk fits great with Bills defensive scheme.
9. Lions - Ernie Sims: My guess is that the Lions are still happy with what Sims has given them so far. Donte Whitner would also be a possibility here.
10. Cardinals - D'Brickashaw Ferguson: They really needed a tackle back in 2006 and if "Brick" were there they would be all over him.

Beerlover for laughs top 10 picks revisted

1. Vince Young. draft the hometown kid & trade Carr for another pick (at the time could have netted a 2nd/3rd. rd. pick). build the franchise around him using three more 2nd rd. picks than what the Texans currently have. for starters RB Marurice Jones Drew with the extra 2nd aquired from the Carr trade. now there is true revisionist history :)

2. Reggie Bush - remember the bush bowl
3. Matt Leinart - no breaks for Bud
4. Jay Cutler - Jets still looking for Nameth redux
5. Mario Williams - GB goes defense either way
6. Joseph Addai - would have looked really good in a 49er uniform
7. D'Brickashaw Ferguson - Raiders putting their money in the OL
8. Laurence Maroney - Bills pre-lynch
9. A.J. Hawk - Lions stay w/LB
10. Marcus McNeil - now they get their LT leaving Levi Brown to fall to the Texans the following year :)

You have Leinart way too high...he hasn't been all that impressive. Lead feet, confusion, poor decisions. Cutler would be taken before him plus he is local to Nashvegas.

exactly.

thats my gift to bud :bat:

but seriously he was a possiblity pre-draft anyway so its not that off base & wait until he gets healed & his offensive line is schooled up a bit more, he'll be alright.

Knowing what we know now.....Cuttler clearly has the best arm and mechnics out of the three. If it weren't Mario, I'd hope we'd be smart enough to take the franchise QB. Saint Vincent ? ... he is still a steamer trunk full of question marks.
If he doesn't learn to pass the ball better all the "it" in the world will not cover up his warts. Want Vincet in '08...move up and sellect Darrin McFaddin and move him to quarterback. Same thing.

carr's contract was up remember?? it aint madden, you cant sign and trade a guy straight away (plus the pick wouldn't make up for the cap damage anyway imo)

last I checked Matt is out with a broken collarbone but this will not inhibit him or stop his career. alot of people are down on him, popular opinion I understand this but I still expect big things from him when he returns, he could even be available for the playoffs should they make it which also is not out of the realm of possiblity not a bad one year turnaround for a team picking 5th in the draft :specnatz:

suprised at the mock ...

I am suprised at the top 10

guess the chron could put a sleeper pick into the name of ; uhh I don't know, maybe a guy named Demeco Ryans:wild:

I thought the same. Yet they left some in that really haven't done much.

I don't see how Ryans wouldn't be one of if not the first LB picked. Guys like Hawk & Sims had more hype, but Demeco has demonstrated that he'll be a very good player in the NFL for years to come.

after reviewing all the facts, to be fair, we need to take a look at least three years as a body of work. two year grades are still incomplete, though we have a much better idea how players are performing throughout the NFL process. A better body of work is now almost complete for the 05 draft class so if you where to grade those players/picks who would be your top 10 from 05?

Actual 05 selections-

1. Alex Smith, 49ers....fooled many 1st couple seasons, injured often now looks lost.
2. Ronnie Brown, Fish....another RB lost to acl, was productive.
3. Braylon Edwards, Brownies....lost 1st season with injury, now is a td machine.
4. Cedric Benson, da bears....disliked by teammates, feature back who struggles.
5. Carnell Williams, Bucs....promising but down w/serious injury.
6. Adam Jones, Tits....playmaker on the field, bigger playmaker off it.
7. Troy Williamson, Vikes....McClains pick for the Texans, has done very little.
8. Antrel Rolle, Cards....just had his breakout game w/2 ints.
9. Carlos Rogers, Skins....promising young, physical db lost to injurys.
10. Mike Williams, Lions....bust, two seasons w/lions then this - http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d803c416c&template=without-video&confirm=true

1. San Francisco - Braylon Edwards, WR the best player of the 05 draft, fills need then take a QB in the deeper 06 class.

2. Maimi - Shawne Merriman, DE/OLB next best player along with Taylor the best set of ends in the NFL.

3. Cleveland - Ronnie Brown, RB I'll take a chance on him coming back, shows flashes of greatness.

4. Chicago - Jason Campbell, QB develop while Grossman struggles, already had a good back in Jones.

5. Tampa Bay - DeMarcus Ware, DE/OLB like him more than 07 #5 pick Gaines Adams & now Ware is a proven playmaker.

6. Tennessee - Jammal Brown, OT made the pro-bowl already, been injured but nothing serious.

7. Minnesota - Roddy White, WR after Braylon the most productive WR in this class if thats the need they address.

8. Arizona - Logan Mankins, OT could be argued the best lineman of the draft a rock in Tom Brady protection.

9. Washington - Marlin Jackson, CB most productive (on field) in class (without tragic loss of Darrent Willams RIP)

10. Detroit - Heath Miller, TE integeral component of Superbowl run as rookie, good blocker w/reliable hands.

Won't argue with that one Beerlover. Let the record show I wanted Jackson and Cromartie in the worst way when they came out. The Pats holding that high pick for '08 is just sickening.

lol, Ronnie Brown was the best player of the '05 draft. 22 GM's then said it, and i'm sure they'd agree now as well. not sure why Miami would pass on him the second time around.

that was 3 years ago & in all fairness he didn't drop that much even with a torn acl :shades:

actually i thought leinart had a pretty good rep nationwide despite his average at best play, before the injury

You would seriously take Vince still? No freakin way. Id rather draft McNeil than Vince. He is an awful QB and then we settle LT for 10+ years.
