Volatile third-year wide receiver Antonio Bryant was kicked out of the Cowboys' practice Tuesday morning after an argument with receivers coach Todd Haley, resulting in an altercation with coach Bill Parcells.

According to several sources, Bryant has become frustrated with his role as the team's third receiver. His feelings boiled over in practice, with Bryant initially getting into separate arguments with Keyshawn Johnson and Haley.

Parcells intervened, only to see Bryant take his jersey off and throw it on the ground. According to the sources, Parcells picked up the jersey and threw it back at Bryant, who then threw it in the face of an angry and approaching Parcells.

Several players jumped in between the two men. Bryant was escorted out of practice by club security.

Fighting with Keyshawn or becoming Keyshawn? Either way he better keep it away from Parcells.
 
Oh nice.... not the best way to get on the coach's good side. If Antonio is so frustrated, PROVE he should be more than the 3rd choice... not just mouth off.
 
I remember some Texan fans (supposedly) felt that Dallas had the superior draft to the Texans in '02. Derek Ross was cut last year and now Bryant looks to be on his way out. That draft doesn't look so good now, huh?
 
Not a good idea to get on Mr. Parcells bad side.

I imagine they'll have a pow-wow and get things worked out or he'll get a pink slip!
 
"Don't let the door hit your backside" may be/probably will be Tuna's next conversation with him.

Bryant has given more production and explosiveness to Dallas so far, but the gap narrowed a lot in year two.

I suspect that Bryant's agent better get busy lining up a new job for his client...I understand that the Ravens still need a WR, maybe he should give them a call.
 
even though it's dallas, i always love hearing about a coach that doesnt take **** from his guys. in ccdude's link it talked about parcels making it obvious that he's not having any of the little kid conduct that it seems most teams allow. do right and he'll take ya far (cowboys in the playoffs last year? i put that all on parcels) ... step out of line and you're gone.
 
There's not a coach alive that should allow his players to disrespect his authority.

Of course Coach Parcells has the reputation of having a very short fuse and he doesn't allow it at all.

And you know most players that have played for him just respect the heck out of him and some even come back.

I don't anticipate him backing off with this particular player and I imagine the player will either have to apologize to him or he'll be cut or traded.
 
I find it pretty interesting to take a look at the role of the coach in the Big 3 sports (NFL, NBA, MLB) and what the overall perception of the player population is.

MLB...coaches seem almost like accountants, most are faceless and seem to the layman to leave little stamp on the teams. There are the minority that seem to bring real leadership to their clubs and those guys clearly stand out from the crowd. The players appear to be WAY WAY over paid and then gripe for more pay...they are stunned when people believe they that rules and fairness apply to them, ie the steroid testing issue.

NBA...coaches I think have the least amount of impact because many owners have on more than one occaision stated that they will side with the 50mil dollar star over the 5mil dollar coach everytime. Guess what... the players know this too!! They are also insanely overpaid and have the biggest Me 1st and Me only attitude of any player population.

NFL...coaches leave the clearest mark on the teams they work with. With the talent parity in the league via the draft, free agency, and salary cap to me the single biggest signing an owner and GM can make to have a lasting impression is the coaching staff. The players are responsible to the coach and they know the coaches word is law...if it isn't then you get the '03 Raiders. I think the players are much more willing to work around salary cap issues for the good of the team (as compared to the other sports) and by the nature of their sport are more likely to sacrifice for the good of the team.

I think everyone on Cowboys squad and front office knows that Bryants day's are numbered...I would bet that Bryant would get walking papers from 2/3rds of the teams around the league for his actions. Remember the Gruden-Keyshawn issues last year...Chucky benched arguably his best offensive talent for the last 3rd of the season for this type of behavior.
 
Word out of Big D is that receiver Keyshawn Johnson, who was traded to the Cowboys after getting sent home in November by the Bucs last season, isn't looking very good in offseason drills. In the opinion of one league source, Johnson appears to be "living off of his hype."

It remains to be seen whether and to what extent coach Bill Parcells will tolerate Johnson if he doesn't step it up. Their history together, including several successful seasons in New York, suggests to us that the Tuna will be patient -- at least until the regular season starts. And Johnson's spot in the starting lineup is by no means etched in stone, given that holdovers Terry Glenn and Antonio Bryant are looking sharp to date.

Of course, reports that Bryant and coach Bill Parcells got into an altercation at practice on Tuesday won't do much to elevate Bryant's status on the team. The Dallas Morning News openly speculates that the incident could get Bryant released from the team.

We're also hearing that quarterback Vinny Testaverde has looked great in his short time with the team, and that his presence apparently has prompted incumbent starter Quincy Carter to step it up.

The 'Boys will need a solid passing game to create running lanes for rookie Julius Jones, who currently is perched atop the depth chart in the backfield.

IRVING - One day after a practice-field altercation with coach Bill Parcells, Antonio Bryant's future with the Cowboys remains in doubt.

The Cowboys practiced Wednesday without Bryant. He was kicked out of practice Tuesday after throwing his jersey in Parcells' face following separate heated exchanges with receivers coach Todd Haley, receiver Keyshawn Johnson and Parcells.

The third-year wide receiver's gear remains in his locker at the team's Valley Ranch facility, but the question now is if or when he will be able to use it again.

But according to a report on ESPN.com, one of Bryant's agents, Peter Schaffer, spoke with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Tuesday night and Wednesday and says things have been worked out between the team and Bryant. Schaffer said Bryant would not be traded and any disciplinary action would be handled internally.

Bryant is an excellent player and greatly contributed to last years success but that doesnt matter if I were Parcells I would fire him on the spot. No player should treat your coaches with disrespect like that

I'm not sure about Bryant. It depends I think on what has happened since the incident and I haven't read anything.

If he doesn't catch a clue he's gone.

If he apologizes and tries to get past this he may keep him.
 
I read that Bryant's agent met with Jerry for some damage control although neither of the two were personally involved. I wonder if his agent will be preparing a statement for him as well.
 
I heard on Dan Patrick's show that Detric Ward signed a one-year contract to play for the Boys. Parcells seems to be going back and choosing a number of his former players.
 
Texans draft players for character first, they must be good people willing to sacrifice for the betterment of the team. This dude Antonio Bryant may have a ton of talent but his attitude does not measure up to the Texans model at all. The trouble and disruption he could inflict on a young developing team like the Texans would not be worth the risk eek:
