Sherman to A&M?

Insideop

All Pro
Well I just saw this article in the Chronicle and I for one hope it's not true. I'm just not sold on him as a college coach. I don't know what he will bring to the table as far as recruiting and motivation of college players, etc... If it's true, I guess I'll just have to deal with it, but I was hoping they would go after Petersen from Boise St. or Rodriguez from W. Virginia.

Here's part of the article:

Nick de la Torre : Chronicle
Texans offensive coordinator Mike Sherman is on Texas A&M's list of coaching candidates.
Is Texas A&M leaning toward Sherman? — Texas A&M apparently will not waste much time in naming a replacement for football coach Dennis Franchione, who resigned under pressure after Friday's win over Texas in the regular-season finale. A new coach could be introduced as early as Monday but more likely Tuesday.

I for one hope it happens, personally I have a feeling Sherman and Kubiak have different philosophies and Sherman is preventing Kubiak from running his "true" system......which is why this team can't figure out of they're a "zone blocking" team or a "power run" team........in the end it just makes us a jack of all trades and a master of none.

Sherman did a great job of being Kubiak's "training wheels" while he was getting accustomed to the "head coaching" role.........but it's time to take the training wheels off.

This isn't anything new. He was on the list when this first got brought up.

I would rather have Tuberville, but I would be fine with Sherman. Of course I have no control of it, so I will just have to deal with whoever we get.

I'm a die hard Longhorn fan, but don't mistake me as one of those obnoxious retard redneck idiots that worship the ground Young walks on. I'm actually glad the aggs won, once again........I enjoy a rivalry (and it takes tough losses for a healthy rivalry to sustain itself) and quite frankly I haven't been sold on anything Colt McCoy has done this year.....the kid didn't progress like he was supposed to and is overrated, he really needs to step up his game next year.

Having said all of that, I really hope y'all hire Mike Sherman......I really thing it'll improve the Texans as a whole, right now Houston has one too many chiefs.

That's my thoughts on it as well. Although, I am totally torn. I think I prefer Tuberville or Spurrier. We (A&M) gotta think recruiting. Les Miles on the east flank, Mack Brown on the west, and Stoops to the north. We need a master recruiter. Sherman underwhelms me, but that's a personal opinion.

It wont be Tuberville, his buyout is to much. Im thinking it will be Sherman, Sherman came up after the Miami loss and I got excited about the chance of him coming back to the Station.

Then I got really excited about Spurrier coming, and It doesnt look like that will happen now, so I am preparing myself mentally again for Sherman.

Man I am pumped about the chance of Sherman coming back to the BCS.:cowboy1:

The one I'm worried about is the Bosie State guy. Get that tick in there, it'll be awhile befor the horns dig him off of that hound.

That's the one this Aggie could get excited about. He would bring in an exciting offense, that's for sure, and give him a guy as talented as Goodson, that could be magic.

Hire a true DC and move on.

The thing is, how well has he recruited at Boise State? He won last year with Dan Hawkins' players. I don't know how many of the players on this years Boise team were recruited by Chris Peterson, but I would still think the majority of them were recruited by Hawkins.

I'm really torn here. The Ags hiring Sherman away from the Texans would be a poor move by the Ags but would help the Texans.

I doubt Sherman will be able to recruit an egg to play for the Ags.

This is bad, real bad.

This is what I am worried about, you expressed exactly what I have been thinking.

Sorry Texans, my loyalty to the Ags has to win out here. I know some of you are hoping the Aggies will solve a problem by hiring Sherman, but I hope the Aggies don't bite on this one. I guess we will know soon enough.

Me too. I think this would be a horrible coaching decision. We need somebody aggressive. I'm tired of the conservative I-formation football.

/hijack

My son just turned in his app to A&M, I've been nagging him for weeks to get it in. /hijack

Now let's hope they hire the right coach (so he can enjoy 4 yrs of college football). I trust BB to do the right thing. /insert smiley of crossed fingers here..

Don't think you have to worry about Petersen coming to A&M. They said something in that article about him getting a million dollars this coming year and he also has a son with some health issues that may keep him from coming.

Here is part of the Sherman article about Petersen:

Petersen is an attractive candidate because of his accomplishments in two years at the helm of mid-major power Boise State. Petersen, who had served as Broncos offensive coordinator under Dan Hawkins before his promotion, led Boise State to a thrilling 43-42 overtime win over Bob Stoops' Oklahoma Sooners in last season's Fiesta Bowl.

But a person close to Petersen said Saturday he would be surprised if Petersen left Boise State because he is set to earn $1 million next year and also because of a family situation concerning the health of one of his two sons.

Well no disrespect to the health care professionals of Utah, but are you posting that he couldn't get better care in Houston than he could in Utah ? That's a prety amazing stance in my book. I don't care what the kid has.

Secondly...the guy just punked the sooners in a national BCS game. What else does the guy need on his resume ? That's going to be his job every year...Beat OU..beat Texas. Everything else will take care of itself. Personaly as a horns fan, I'd just love to see Sherman running the same offense as he ran here in College Station. On the other hand... a young guy, recuirting young guys to run his variation of the spread...that's like John Carpenter's "the thing" to me. He doesn't have to recruit the top guys off of the top one hundred every year to be sucessful. All he has to do is get the athletes who can fit into his system. Only thing Fran lacked was a Ladanian Tomlinson.

But knowing the Aggs and their never ending penchant for continulally sticking their fingers in the same power socket to see if it still works...my chips are on Sherman. Gotta love that "I". Hulabalukanuckkanuck. He fits the profile.

Well. it looks like Sherman is the man.

They will have a presser today at 11:00 to announce him as th new HC. I think he will do fine. Yall dont go ripping on him just yet, that is the reason I stopped going to texags.

He coached under the Slocum regime twice, he knows college station and he knows Texas High School Football.

I think this was a great hire, its not as pretty as Spurrier or Tubberville etc. But a solid hire none the less.

I wish A&M would have waited about a week or so. I was stoked about the win. I was stoked about Fran being gone. Can we enjoy that for a little while before announcing Sherman as the HC? It's not that I don't like the hire necessarily, its just sort of anti-climactic after a great Friday night and weekend.

It has been a roller coaster weekend for the Ags. I don't think Sherman would have taken any of the other college jobs, had they been offered so it wouldn't have hurt to wait a while. I think it does help in the recruiting area, so they immediately know who the new coach is.

I think it's a good hire for the Ags in that Sherman truly does want to be "their coach" and succeed.

A year ago, I thought this was a good idea because anything was better than Fran. Come this season and I start looking real hard at some candidates I thought would be good fits, add excitement that kind of thing. And Sherman was not in my top 7 guys.

So when it became obvious the move was made, I was not excited about it. Oh the Fran part made me happy, but the Sherman part left me neutral.

This afternoon I hear RC Slocum talking on the radio about Sherman, and the type man he is. You know I think this might be a good hire.

Most HS player think they are going to be playing on Sunday, and Sherman will certainly be able to say he knows what it takes to be a pro, and he will know how to coach them to be a pro. I expect the level of play to go back up.

I also think Sherman will be smart enough to put Goodson on the Heisman map. He made an impression on Steve McGee yesterday with the way he was treated him, Sherm told him he understood McGee being upset and loyal to Fran, and he just wanted him to give him (Sherm) a chance.
