Playoff Possible in Houston?

Andrew6

All Pro
The playoffs don't seem as far off as they did a few weeks ago. Looking at the divisions right now if Houston can win most if not all of their last 6 games they have a real chance at getting a wild card. If Tennesee loses tonight and next week and Houston beats Cleveland next week that puts them in the run for wild card. From there on all they have to do is hold their position.

I disagree. The weakest of our last six opponents is Denver, and they are looking great right now. Personally I think we will win three of them (@Browns, @Titans, Jags), with a one game margin.

My original prediction was 9-7, and I think we have a chance at that. Playoffs? Not in the AFC.

Is Denver playing that good or is Titans just that bad?

Very possible Andrew and we can help ourselves out a lot with wins in Nashville and beating the Jags here.

Have you looked at the AFC standings lately. I think they have a 10-6 or maybe even a 9-7 team in there this year.

Well, let's assume Denver beats Tenn. and puts them at 6-4. If the order of playoff qualifications is correct:

Chance 1 => Texans go 9-7

1.1 HOU wins JAX, IND, TEN, CLE

1.2 TEN loses to (IND, CIN, SD) or 4 combined

1.3 CLE loses to (2 of CIN, BAL, ARI) or 3 combined

1.4 DEN loses to (SD, MIN, OAK or KC) or 3 combined

Chance 2 => Texans go 10-6

2.1 HOU wins IND, TEN, JAX, CLE, (TB or DEN)

2.2 TEN loses (IND or SD) or 3 combined

2.3 CLE loses any 2 (likely: CIN, BAL, ARI)

Chance 3 => Texans go 11-5

3.1 HOU wins IND, TEN, JAX, CLE, TB, DEN

3.2 TEN loses 1 AFC game or 2 total

3.3 CLE loses 1 game

One game out of the final Wild card. Titans 6-4, Cleveland 6-4. And we play both of them in the next two weeks.

Go Texans.

Does it matter if we get into the playoffs?

Because I want to just avoid the Patriots at all cost. I think i'll cry if we play them.

I'd rather make the playoffs and lose to the Pats 77-0 than not make it at all. Besides, if we get to play the Patriots that means we'll have won a playoff game since the Pats will have a first round bye!

True, but the Patriots will crush our team so bad I feel.

Maybe Belicheck would go easy on us, since Kubes was one of the few Coaches when asked about spygate who kept saying "No comment on that." or at least I hope. I remember last year we played the Pats...that was really really bad.

No more playoff threads. The following game is usually bad.

I'm with Guerilla on this one, the mods should close down any thread having to do with the Texans and playoffs at this point. Unless it is Yankee predicting the Texans have no chance to make the playoffs. His last prediction worked out so well.

I keep seeing "I want Andre back," "Andre will fix everything," etc.

When Andre is back, we're not going back to week 1 and 2 ball. We've had a LOT of problems develop since then (exactly what and why is a whole other thread). We've had OD over the middle, and Walter and Davis stepping up to stretch the field.

Yes, AJ is a top NFL wide receiver. Yes, I miss him.

No, having him back will not "fix" our current woes.

the Texans control their own fate. In addition to those, it seems like the last game of the season might be a big one too.

Well - it's possible. And the only way we'll play the Patriots is in the AFC Championship game. If we make it there - I'm with TexanSam - if we get blown out 77-0, at least we made it. And we won't have been the first team blown out by the Patriots this year. Of course as things stand now, we'd have to beat the Steelers, then the Colts before we get near the Patriots.

I'm down with that.

I posted a thing at GIF, and some new Titans fan (Bulluck53, if that helps) said that neither one of us make the playoffs. I guess as long as THEY don't make it, I'll be happy.

Anyone notice something great about our schedule...we play against a lot of the other contenders. So if we can just focus on one week at a time...lets look at this..

Browns-6th place right now, we beat them we share 6-5 records.
Titans- 5th place 6-4 right now
Bucs- NFC, so this would be a good game to lose if any I guess.
Broncos- 10th/ 5-5
Colts- Who knows, we almost beat them without Andre, and they are hobbled and almost lost to KC.
Jags- 7-3 and they just lost Mike Peterson for the rest of the season.

So who knows, we may be in this hunt till the end. That would be a great way to end the season. Say we need a win to get into the playoffs the last week against the Jags who hat us so much. Win or lose that would be great for this franchise. To just have that game where its like "You win you move forward, you lose good luck next year."

I'll be honest with you, I havn't been this excited about the Texans since week 3 of the season. Who would of thought after all the tripping and falling we've had here recently that we'd be "in the hunt"

If we bring the same fire to each of these games that we brought to the Saints game, who knows.

First thing: Can we get a win in the Dawg Pound? Cleveland has a suspect defense but they sure can put up points. Can we win a shootout? With the "Andre Brothers" and OD, I like our chances.

So playing the Pats means playing in the AFC championship I am all for it.

we have a chance- cle, ten and the jags (now minus mike p and stroud) are all like ourselves at the moment- good but beatable

Here's a write up of the AFC playoff picture:

AFC Playoff Picture Week 12

Worth a read. Here's an excerpt:

The AFC South, meanwhile, sees everyone still in the mix for playoff spots. The Jaguars are rising, though, while the Titans appear to be slipping, thanks to a distinct loss of Albert Haynesworth. The Texans, meanwhile, are back at .500 and could sneak into this race, now that Matt Schaub is throwing touchdowns to Andre Johnson again.

The Browns remain in the hunt, but beating the Dolphins and Rams, while expected, does nothing for their strength of victory ranking. Cleveland could miss the playoffs just because those two teams suck so much.

Here's something to ponder.....The year the Patriots won their first superbowl they were 5-5 at this time, ended up winning 6 in a row, made the playoffs, won 3 games including at Pittsburgh, then went on to defeat the unstoppable Rams in the SB.

All we need to do is bring Tom Brady off the bench and we're golden.

I'm not even going to say the 'P' word until we get at least to 8-6, because we would need to win at least 10 games minimum.

The original question was if the playoffs are possible in Houston...

Technically speaking, yes, they are possible...

BUT

Even though the playoffs are a possibility, the Texans are still a team that hasn't beaten a single team with a winning record all year, and the teams that we have beaten are a combined 14-36.

I'm usually a glass-half-full kind of guy, and I'm trying to be one here, but the next good team we beat will be the first...

I am optimistic that the return of AJ will make us a better team, though. I think Cleveland is the perfect team for us at this moment, to really get a gauge where we're at as a team. They're pretty good, and a win against them would be a quality win, but they're not so good that we'll be a huge underdog or anything... I think it's a good litmus test against a comparable level of competition.

That's okay. We have to beat good teams to make it in anyway. May as well be against the teams we have to overtake. I agree with you. I like that we're playing Cleveland next week. It's a must-win & we'll see where we stand. What concerns me is the 0-3 division record though.

So do we go for Jax or Buff this weekend? Obviously we want the bears to beat Denver and Cincinatti to beat Tenn--and us to take care of cleveland.

I would say the Jags to beat Buffalo b/c that would remove the tie between the Texans and the Bills if the Texans beat the Browns.

Right now nobody knows who the Texans are, including the Texans.

we got nothing but the next game ahead of us right now. Coach has instructed the team to look no further than the browns and I am telling all of you to get off the bong and take it one game at a time. We need to focus on a winning season right now. I do not like the sound of 8 and 8 but we will be luck to reach that this year. I have dreams but I keep them in check when we played as bad as we have played this season. We still owe our selves a 3 win streak much less an above 500 season. If we even sniffed post season play we would likely get wiped off the map. AJ is great to have back but did he really bring back Dunta, Steve, Ahmahn. Quit this talk of post season and focus on winning the next game.

All that being said, it sure was nice to see us on the TV screen on monday night when they were talking about the "playoff wild card picture"!
Never seen us on the screen before. Regardless of what happens, that felt good! :)
