Boston College #77 LT Gosder Cherilus

TexansSeminole

Hall of Fame
This 6-7 320 lb senior Gosder Cherilus for Boston College has looked absolutely fantastic in the games I have seen Boston College play. Yesterday he did a great job against the Clemson defense, he really protects Matt Ryan quite well.

What do you guys think of him, he looks to be a first rounder to me I couldn't see him lasting long in the draft.

He played right tackle up until this year.

I think anything that posts a 5.3 forty is a RT canidate in the pros just like Loadholt of OU. Now what we do you might make him work. He'll probably go off the baord befor our third round pick.

i dont agree with your 40 time thing at all but anyway.. alot of mocks have him top 20

I'm not saying he isn't a bad prospect either. Just going to have a hard time in our division manning OLT. If he 's got the feet to do it at this level then he can do it. I mean loadholt isn't quick but he has a pop to him when he comes off the ball. I'm counting on Salaam's legs eventually catching up with him. Twenty two games and counting. Last year I was perfectly willing to give Levi Brown a shot at OLT if Grimm hadn't took him off the board for Az. I'm perfectly willing to give this guy the same grace. Levi was a 5.3 guy, but he was very, very quick. I knew for a fact that Brown could rush block. Anything that upgrades the o-line I'm all for.

The forty isn't the be all and end all. Just another barameter. I mean Charles Spencer came out of no where. Who'd of thunk it ? After only two games, and two years off, no one can be sure of what we exactly got in him now. Same is going to be true of the Newberry college kid Benidict. All you know of him is he is big and can run. He domintes his division in college. Doesn't mean he can move up to this level and dominate.

OLT is finally catching up to the colts. Took one guy retiring, one rookie hurt and down to the third team guy. I'm prety impresed they went this long with out trouble.

Salaam is like the guy falling of the forty story building on his way to the sidewalk.."So far, So good ." Twenty two straight and counting.

40 times mean very little. quick, nimble footwork is more important than straight ahead burst downfield. then you combine strength, hand punch, athletic balance, size & attitude for a complete package.

Gosder appears to have slower feet/reactions than you need to play LT in the NFL, he will project to RT & be a late 1st early 2nd round pick.

I would prefer the Texans look @ Jeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh if hes still there in the 3rd rd. ala Charles Spencer. more upside & think he could play LT in the league :shades:

TTP, where did you get your forty time for Gosder? According to NFL Draft Scout, his forty is 5.14 and WalterFootball.com has him at 5.08 and a top 25 pick. Now if he runs a 5.3 at the Combine, you're right, his stock will drop. But, if he runs somewhere between 5.14 and 5.08, he probably goes mid 1st round.

He could be there when the Texans pick in the 1st, and I would take him over Baker if we decide to pick a LT. Just too early right now to tell how this will all turn out. JMHO!

I agree with your assessment completely about quick and nimble footwork along with strength, hand punch, balance, and attitude being very important. But, I prefer to wait and see who grades out the best between the 2 at the Combine.
