With the few teams in front of us, it seems we may miss out on some top tier secondary players like Kenny Phillips and Malcolm Jenkins. I do think if this was the order going into the draft we'd be sitting really pretty if we wanted Jonathan Stewart!

If you'd told me that we'd be sandwiched between Arizona, New Orleans, Baltimore, Kansas City, Carolina, Denver, Chicago, and Philadelphia at the beginning of the year I'd think we'd be sitting much prettier than we really are.

Yes, Stewart would be real nice! :shades: JMHO!

I haven't really watched stewart, But I have watched Ray Rice and I like him. Does anyone know how the two compare and who is reagarded as a higher pick?

Yes how sweet. a board full of offensive lineman and corners and we draft a RB. What joy.
And we wind up in the third with both those things off the board. Let me do the dance.

"sarcasm is like a second language for me, so I'm totally picking up on it."

so with the current board...how do you see it full of offensive lineman and corners worthy of the 13th pick? inquiring minds want to know :)

I haven't seen either one play, but from what I've read Rice is smaller (5'9", 205 lbs., 4.47 forty) and more like a Jones-Drew type of player. Stewart, on the other hand, is bigger (5'11", 230 lbs., 4.49 forty) and a more powerful type of runner similar to Jerome Bettis. Both of there stocks have been rising and both are projected to go in the 1st round. Stewart may be projected a little higher as of now, but it's a long way until the Combine and anything can happen. JMHO!

The Patriots would draft 4th. Just freakin' great. The Niners GM should be tared and feathered on ESPN just prior to Goodell opening the '08 draft.

Yea. Let's punish a guy for getting Patrick Willis & Joe Staley in the same draft.

Just because the team sucks doesn't mean that the trade was a bad move.

You move down the board at a reduced asking price if you must, to hit the bigest hole with the BPA on the board. But you fill one hole with the best BPA on the board. Be a corner, offensive Tackle, Linebacker or center doesn't matter. But ...you hit one hole with that first pick. If they took one of the corners that would be a positive. Hell I'd take a RT like Loaddholt just to kick winston to the left and see if it would work. My board has had o-line on the top of it for five years. And how do you know that Stewart will not be there at the bottom of the first anyway ? If you ask for a pair of thirds for the move down you just might get it. And there will be peices we need on this board that will fall into the third. One of the centers, take a chance on The Heath Bennidict kid, the Tennesse gaurd or the Texas Tackle that's dinged up.... there will be peices that fall.

Not exactly. There are going to be plenty of very talented corners to select at that #13 spot. Mike Jenkins and Antoine Cason will be there at #13 I would think.

It's Kenny Phillips that might not be there at #13 spot simply because I don't see very many safety prospects after him. Kenny isn't having a very good year when it comes to coverage as far as I have seen. At the beginning of the year I was thinking that he may be able to play FS successfully in the NFL however, I am starting to question that a little bit. He has always been good in run support, but it's his coverage that I am worried about.

Well I'm not the florida experts that some are on here. My thoughts on him are why would they duplicate Boulware or Demps on the team ? Why would they do that ? They currently need a corner. They need some fresh legs on the o-line. They need a center. They could use some athletic LBs or a front line 4-3 speed rusher, which ever. Arizona guy, Cason looked good to me. Watched the Wisconsin game the guy whos name I can't spell looked good to me. Move down and take one. If you miss on those two take the South Florida kid. I mean there's four or five sitting there. And I'm firm in my belief that they aren't going to spend that kind of money on a FS. Everything they've done so far has been very frugal there. I was hot for Cromartie a couple of drafts ago. What I know is I'm not hot for any of the FS prospect this season. Take the big corner coach the lad up.

In 100% agreement with this post.

Ok, now you need to explain. You would take Phil Landholt OT 6'8" 352 5.3 speed (in Jr college) in first round and hope Winston could start at left? Now that is a statement. There are several LTs projected from 12- 50 best prospects such as Sam Baker, Nichael Oher, Gosder Cherilus, Ryan Clady and Alex Boone. You are putting two positions into question with that move. Do we want to take that risk? To me where ever we draft in first, we need to geed a solid starter ready to do on first snap.

Bennet has done more for us than people are crediting him with. IF Dunta comes back, we have our 2 starters . "Coach the lad up" takes time. We already have a "coach the lad up" guy in Bennett. Plus he's huge.

We need offensive line. Period. We dont' have a legitimate LT or C anymore in the NFL. We need bot hof those.

Scenario, Dunte does not come back to be a quality @ CB. You want to enter 2008 with Bennett and Hutchins? I'm hopeful the latter will be a star but not sure I want to allow CB to go un-addressed in either draft or FA. Same for LT with Spencer.

I'm a big fan of trading down but its easier said than done. In a perfect scenario I'd love to fall back and pick up a 2nd round pick. With as many holes as we have, we need to get quality guys and more of them. Smith will do a great job of finding them.

However, it just depends on how the Texans grade out these players. Kenny Phillips would be better in coverage than any other FS on our team but that doesn't mean we should take him. I personaly would rather a shutdown corner. It's not that easy to say well malcolm jenkins is off the board...lets take antoine cason or justin king b/c they are the next best cb's. If we have a RB, LT or OLB graded higher than these cb's we won't reach for the cb....we may try to trade down and select one but we shouldn't reach for them.

We are kind of in a fortunate spot because we will be able (hopefully) to have a selection of several really great prospects at positions of need. And being that we have several holes..we should be able to have our pick of someone that fills that. Again..trading down isn't the easiest thing to do but if we can I'd be in complete support of that.

As far as cornerbacks go...cb's excell in different systems, some are good man-to-man, bump and run, etc. Others are suited for tampa2/zone type of schemes. you can't just say 'oh he's the next best CB', if he doesn't fit our defense its going to be a waste of a pick. Seems to me that could have been a reason why Phillip Buchanon didn't do all that well here but I could be wrong.

The Houston Texans are assuming the position :Tumblewee

If the draft where held tomorrow the Texans have the #11 pick

I wouldn't be shocked if NE traded out of the #2 spots for more picks, they are getting old in certain areas and they might be losing some key people in their secondary.

I agree. I don't think there is any way they keep #2.

I also don't think that NE takes D-Mac. Their offense is already terrific and they need some help in the D. Plus, they have to resign Moss which will cost them some $$$ they already have a bunch of $$$ in Brady and Moroney was a first round pick so he ain't cheap. They are in a perfect position to trade down and get extra picks.

i like the fact that Miami basically gets two first rounders with New England's pick being forfeited.

well my gamble would be that King Dunlop or Heath Bennitict or Tony Hills ...or now that all of our depeth at G/C has been whipped out....the two kids dinged from Oregon St. and Tennesse, would make a transition. What I know for fact is with a fourth and one with Loadholt at RT or RG...we're not going to get stuffed anymore. Micheal Oher may not come out. Cherilu is basically the same animal as Loadholt. Fact is they need to hit the o-line hard. The only way to do that and hit the Cb and the RB is take the lame afflicted and curl lipped and hope you hit something. I don't know what is so strange about that ? We've been doing it since Bosselli.
