Announced this afternoon.

HOUSTON - The Houston Texans have signed S Curome Cox and placed CB Dunta Robinson on the reserve/injured list, it was announced today.

Cox (6-1, 204) is in his third NFL season. He spent the 2005-07 seasons with the Denver Broncos, where he played in 36 games, starting five. He finished his Broncos career with 26 tackles and two interceptions. Cox led the Broncos with 15 special teams tackles a season ago. This season, Cox made four tackles, one fumble recovery and three special teams tackles before being released by the Broncos on November 6.

Cox, who grew up in Washington D.C., was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2004. Denver signed him to their practice squad on December 1, 2004 where he spent the remainder of the season.

Cox attended the University of Maryland, where he started 45 of 47 career games. He totaled 165 tackles, 10 interceptions and two sacks. He was an honorable mention All-ACC selection as a senior.

I am seriously starting to worry about this packers/Denver signings. It is as if they do not look else where what so ever.

And who out there should they have looked at?

I think this is more of a signing of oppurtunity then anything, since he was released about a week ago.

I'm just kinda glad it's not McCleon, Denver's cast offs are still better then out spare parts from last year.

They might actually take your thoughts on this into account.... if you had posted them on a Broncos or Packers fan site. I'm afraid posting on a Texans site isn't going to get it done my friend.

I don't really care who they sign when it's a free agent off the scrap heap in the middle of the season. If all they pursue is former Broncos or Packers during the offseason, then I'd be a little irked.

Anyone know anything about this cat other than the stat line?

Is he an FS or a SS? I'm assuming he's a depth guy but I wonder if this is the dude that Kubiak said "he may be playing soon" or something to that effect....

From what I can gather going over the Bronco's message baord, he was their primary back up at SS, but he filed in at FS when Lynch went down in J-Ville, he palyed corner in college.

from NFL.com stats, he had 1 int 4 pdef and 26 tackles last year (dont quote me I'm tired) but that was with only 4 starts and 21 of those tackles were solo, wich is good news for a DB. probably be a nickle/dime/breather guy to start and he apparently excelled at special teams so that's a bonus too. hey we need the bodies at this stage of the season.

Why would the Broncs release their primary backup at SS, who can also play FS and CB?

He looks interesting and appears to have upside.:d:

i actually remember seeing him playing last year because the announcers were making a deal about how lynch was out... iirc, they were saying how cox is good in coverage but a poor tackler and later he did whiff on two tackles during that game (which they focused on).. id say its a decent enough signing

A Strong Safety who is afraid of tackling?? Lol! Nice signing.:whip:

Dear Lord, since you won't buy me a Mercedes Benz, would you please send me a free safety to watch on my color TV? IF you can find a free safety a strong safety will do, cause at the rate we lose them, I'll never have a good night on the town. signed Janis Joplin

If it means we don't have to see Faggins on the field, at least as a starter I'm all for it at this point.

But you guys have to figure that he/they are going to sign guys that they at least know something about or someone who's opinion they respect on talent (Shanahan), is going to give them an honest evaluation of this guy's play. Plus, it's the middle of the season, you're not going to find a diamond in the rough around this time.

Better than a SS who hits hard part time, misses the rest, and cant cover a dead Basset Hound. Im not very pumped with our Safty play this year, so Im willing to look at anybody at tjis point not named Brown.

He's just another body to fill a roster spot in a decimated secondary. If he sees the field on defense, we're in trouble. How many productive players are sitting at home halfway through an NFL season?

cory dillon....

And yet nobody has called him...wonder why?

Well I don't but you might apperantly.

Tampa bay called him he just declined & apparently the pats were looking to pick him back up when maroney went down early this year & Morris went down for the season a couple of weeks later.

& you guys mean to tell me you would prefer Dayne over Dillon?

he might be a step slower than he used to be, but i bet we could get more out of him than "the dayne train".

I apologize for resurrecting a thread, but man was he a force today.

He made special teams tackles all game, and this week wasn't the first week.

Not a bad pickup, imo.
