Some Chargers news

I was listning to ESPN radio program "the Heard" and they had a sports writer on from San Diego (don't remember the dudes name) and he said Phillip Rivers is getting ALL the snaps and Breeze is just standing around for the most part. He said Shotemhiemer is going to live or die with Rivers. The really interesting thing he said is that Rivers has been stinking it up in practice. Naturally it is REAL early in the process and he may come around by the season start, but may bode well for our season start.

I find it even more hard to believe that they passed up on recievers. Yes they have QB, but who is he going to throw it to? The loss of Boston only made sense to me to replenish that position with another stud WR, like Fitzgerald or trade down and take Roy Williams. They totally botched the draft. Brees was sufficient enough to get them through a bad season. Now they have 2 starting QB with nobody to throw to.

I agree. There was nothing wrong with Drew Brees that adding THE REST OF THE TEAM wouldn't fix. The Chargers seem intent on becoming the new Bengals for some reason. Maybe it's just their turn in the barrell or something.

It's all about LaDanian Tomlinson there. They have some young receivers but no true no.1 type guy. I also remember that they had a pretty good young tight end.

...they took a KICKER in round 3!
Dont be down on picking a kicker. Kickers can easily win or lose a game, prime example was the Superbowl, if Kasey doesnt kick the ball out of bounds the ending might have been different. Plus, the kicker they have now has no distance.

Other notable examples are the Miami/FSU games. Sucks to be a Seminole.

I think that the Bolts were grasping for a life line when they were looking to draft Eli or Rivers. Brees was doing as well as you could ask for a young guy with no line or receivers. I think when you have arguably the best all-around back in the league you build around HIM first...then look for upgrades to QB.

I believe a little bit of panic was/is setting into San Diego when the went for a QB, if they had taken Gallery, they could have taken a quality WR with their 2nd round pick...by then the writing was on the wall for several quality veterans that they could have gone after for QB (ie. Kerry Collins and Warner).

very true...i was hopeing for the charger fans that san diego would have wised up and took gallery with the number one pick...they need help on the line...brees could be a decent starter with a line, a couple of recievers, and a better defense...LT is the only starter on that team that is really worth a **** and it's sad...i hope he stays in san diego but i also hope the front office down there realizes that he can't do it all and starts putting people out there to block for him

I hope Rivers is the Opening Day QB. All though I hope our defense improves against the run.
If Rivers does start I see a lot of screens for LT early so Rivers can get comfortable. The run defese is going to be good with Smith and Walker, and it would be vastly improved if Payne comes back. I would still be scared of LT, though, because he can do it all, catch, read holes, breaks tackles, and can take it the distance.

Didn't they sign Kevin Dyson? He is a solid #2 receiver (assuming he has recovered from his injury).

Hopefully they wise up and draft a WR and OL with some early round picks next year. I guess they still need help on the DL too huh?

They need to give up in SD. Kill the team, and make an expansion team in LA, so they can start new.

I thnk the team needs to be done away with. The whole lot of em. Start new, with an expansion draft.

I still have a hard time grasping how anyone could have passed on Rothlisberger and taken Rivers or Manning over him. I saw all three play and the only guy what really captured my imagination and got me excited was Big Ben. Rivers is just a taller Drew Brees.

This guy is a stud read stats

Don`t think Brees did all this in College. Saw him in the Senior Bowl. Made all kinds of passes to different receivers in that game(he only had a week to get timing down) . He is a play maker. I could be wrong but in a few yrs he could be the best QB of 2004 draft. Falls in the mold of a Joe Montana and Tom Brady (not very athletic IE:Slow Feet) Plus Charges get Giants #1 next yr! What a deal. Don`t think Giants will do good this yr. When you have guys calling the NFL Players Assoc. about being on the field to long. Wonder what Lombardi would have done? :hmmm: Giants need alot of time on the field after last yr! :piano:

Brady, maybe. But Montana was a legendary scrambler and a very good athlete for a QB. Joe was an all state basketball player in HS and a 7 foot high jumper. Philip Rivers may become a good NFL QB, but he's not in Montana's mold.
