Enough With The High Character Guys Issue.

I think its about time the texans start getting some more players with a attitude like Travis Johnson. I don't want street thugs but some thugs on the field. We don't put fear in anyone, dunta tries but he is a 180lb db. I need to see the texans get some penalties for roughing up a qb like ours get roughed up. Why can't we do like in baseball...a pitcher hits our player, we retaliate. This team has no violence in it at all. I can't give up on them but If we are ever going to win, we have to take chances and take some of those guys with low character. I would do anything right now to take a chance on pacman jones....Tank johnson. The patriots have high character...lol? Rodney harrison cheats..hell the whole organization got caught cheating. If you aren't cheating you ain't trying. Mr McNair and coach kubiak...we can probably get pacman real cheap right about now.:gun:

I LOVED Mark Richt telling his guys that they would be running sprints if they did NOT GET A CELEBRATION PENALTY on their first TD. He got his team FIRED UP to kick ass and to finally beat Florida. Sometimes you need to punch a guy in the mouth to get your team up. Glanville and Bum knew this and that is why we became good under them. Please let's find someone with their spirit to take over this team. McNair is too corporate and cares too much about whether a guy is f'in religious than if they know how to win football games.
 
Pacman would have a place on my football team. The dude can play. As long as he didn't disrupt the team he would be on my team.

Mark Richt is a great coach though. And has been for a good while. I also agree that was a smart move.

That's what concerns me. We don't have to have 'low' character guys to have their QB's back. I wish our entire OL went up to Florence and swarmed him. The only problem is all our guys were looking for Cromartie and probably didn't see Schaub get hit and didn't realize it until it was too late.

Okay but how much has pacman helped them get to 5-2? Not much considering he's been suspended. Plus, I don't think there are enough strip clubs in Houston for him...which actually could be good for us :)
 
i don't know, Cincy has drafted low character guys and we see where that has got them this season

I Don't remember the coach going of about it either! Draft SEC players with a rap sheet. Anything to get a mean streak in this team. Attitude...its to hard to win football games when you have scared players. We need more Travis Johnsons, Cris Dishmans, Blaine Bishops and even Albert Haynesworths on this team. We should have the money to shop for these all or nothing type players.

I was impressed with Michael Griffin last week, he seemed to be all over the place
 
Pittman once had a DWI arrest. Didn't help him with the snap on the punt today.

Richard Smith and Jon Hoke like to cuss and yell at players. Doesn't help them teach their players how to provide safety help.

Weird game. Weird season.
 
I never thought I would be saying this, but I am completely jealous of the Cowboys right now and Jerry Jones, Jerry doesnt care who he gets or their track record. He just wants to win, and win he does.

Look how well the TO deal is paying off right now. it is time to stop going after the safe "strong veterans" and "good leaders/ role models/ teachers" and get someone that will stir the pot and not accept losing.

As much as I dislike TO and Jerry Jones, they do not accept losing.

Please forgive me my fellow texan fans for giving the girls props. It has to be the emotions typing.

I don't ever want to hear that we picked up a player to "teach these young guys how to prepare" again. As far as I am concerned we don't have enough young guys that are worth teaching. Get some players that actually benefit the team, not players who are brought in to do the job of the coaches.
 
I don't want thugs on my team, but I sure as crap would've liked to have seen my guys get ALL OVER that arsehole Florence that laid that cheap shot on Schaub. That dude needs a suspension, not just a fine. And if I was Kubiak, I'd be grabbing my linemen saying, "why the f didn't you have our guy's back?" If there's EVER a time to get an unsportsmanlike penalty, that was it. And we STILL would've gotten the 15 yards, as there were TWO unsportsmanlike penalties by the Chargers. One would have been offset.
 
I remember hearing Ditka today saying "I was afraid to make a mistake when playing for my coach"

How many guys are afraid to make a mistake on this team?

I mean knowing that Faggins has made tons, yet still gets the nod. And this is across the board for our whole team. You can go out there and play horrible, and go out the next week and play worse...and still get the nod for snaps.

I just wonder how many guys are afraid of losing PT and their jobs for screwing up week after week.

Kubiak probably got after Schaub for being a jack ass that just sat there after he got picked off. There is no better way to get your bell rung on a football field than standing still.

Any football player in Florence's situation would make that hit in a heart beat if they were worth a ****.

The reason people are arguing with you is because there is a flag for using helmet to helmet contact against the QB.

It is well known to not do it or get a penalty. The fact that he wasn't is rediculous. I'm not sure it warrants an ejection but a flag for sure.

That and the fact that is specifically against the rules to go after a QB that is not part of the play after a turnover. Most players wouldn't have done it.
 
I don't know about negative attitudes, necessarily. However, our team doesn't have any heart in it at the moment. We need to be giving people hell.

I appreciate the props, but Jerry does care who he gets, otherwise Moss would be a Cowboy. Also, Quincy Carter was cut abruptly when it appeared he was the best option at the time for QB. TO was more of a malcontent given his high standards for putting forth the best efforts to win. He does not possess thug status.

So there were NO "thugs" on the team in the 90's. Do you really think if Quincy was a great or even good QB he would have been kicked off the team. If that were the case the dynasty in the 90's would never have been.
i.e. Michael Irvin, Leon Lett, Eric Williams, Nate Newton. all loved the crack, but they were great. Quincy was not.

The reason Moss isnt on the team is because they already have TO. I dont think the two could co exist.

But I still give him props. He brings in guys who want to win. Like Deion Sanders, and Keyshawn Johnson. They both had big heads and backgrounds. He's not scared.

Now with that being said I still hate the Cowboys.

Sitting on the couch watching you lose? I dont want bums like that on my team. The Colts can win with out having a holding cell in their stadium, we dont need to recruit the Bloods. Stow that BS right now. The way to win isnt the guys with criminal records. Look at Cinci, they arent setting the world on fire. Drafting guys with charecter issues isnt the way to make a good dependable team, its looking for the guys who can play. Not the work-out warriors, the luch pail guys who just play football.

I wasn't referring to the 90's given that in most opinions you can't mention the criminal behavior without mentioning the Super Bowls, which in most opposing fans opinion, is history that has no value in the 21st Century.

I think that Quincy could have been an above average quarterback if he would have worked the system, improved his attitude, and taken advantage of the drug treatment program that could have given him the chance to remain as the quarterback on the team or at worst, a solid backup for another team. Either case, his future would have been a heck of a lot brighter.

I did, however, mention Moss because the Cowboys passed on him during the draft due to some blemishes on his character during college. Thus, he ended up in Minnesota under Dennis Green.

OBTW, hating the Cowboys is ok with me. At least we manage to stir some type of emotion, even if it's hate.:)
 
I guess the Colts have a lot of bad character guys.

Manning, Harrison, Wayne and the list goes on about low charcater guys on the Colts, it is why they win.
 
I get the point of the post and I think it has been misinterpreted. You don't need low character guys, you needs guys with an angry fire and desire to win. See Dunta, see DeMeco. Alot of these guys are just soft. No one seems out there hitting with attitude or wanting to plant the opponent into the dirt. You can be a Jack Lambert and not get arrested. We just need guys with a little anger in their game. We possess a softness.
 
We don't need thugs like Pacman to be a good team, but we do need a couple of guys that have an edge or attitude about them, are nasty as hell on the field, and take no quarter. Someone who is tough, and would punch someone in the mouth if our QB was taken out like that.

Logically, your point is valid. However, it not necessarily applicable to the Texans.

I said this earlier in another thread, the biggest problem the Texans have is Bob McNair.

The problem is real simple, prospective coaches, players, and front office personnel are excluded due to a certain image that McNair is trying to develop.

Unfortunately, that image development works completely independent of what happens on the field. Great image/look has nothing to do what happens on Sunday when the game is played.

Point is, the Texans should be taking a coach, player, or front office guy that gives the best chance to win. What they do in their personal time is their own business unless they are committing felonies. What happens with consenting adults is none of my business.

TC, I agree with you that taking character issues just to do it isn't going to amount to much. But, that's not the problem the Texans are facing. The problem is certain guys that should be considered are not because of so-called character issues and/or image requirements. And it's not just on the player side that this is happening.

Therefore, the biggest problem the Texans have is how McNair has run his Franchise. Kubiak is another shade of Capers in outward appearance. Look at Schaub compared to Carr, very different player on the field but I am seeing some striking similarities when I take into account an image requirement.

The fact that none of our defensive players took a roughing the passer penalty after what happened to Schaub was bush league and is a representation of the mindset of the coaching. this is a dog-eat-dog game and just like baseball, you have to protect your players ESPECIALLY YOUR FREAKING FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK!!

Kubiak/Smith should have been like 'if one of you doesn't get a roughing the passer penalty this drive, then start looking for a new line of work'. They didn't even go after the guy. Just pathetic lame Care Bear NFL football. You gotta stand up for your guys and if its a blowout and they are taking cheap shots you reciprocate and make their sorry arses pay. I agree, this was probably what made me the most mad about the game. We are getting our asses kicked and our FRANCHISE QB is smacked down in a way that is supposed to be illegal. Obvious cheap shot. The fact that nobody did anything is straight soft. I wouldn't have been at all suprised if one of our players had come off the sideline and really started some ****...or even if our defense took a couple late hits in a row on Rivers. But the fact that nobody did anything...just sad and shows that alot of our staff and players need to be gone by 2008.

it was straight up pathetic. me and my brother were just talking about this today. just a pathetic 'team' in every sense of the word....no one has each other's back and people are content with being the other team's little *****.
 
what we need on the texans (especially the oline and dline) are convicted felons. sack shaub, find a shiv/sharpened spoon broken off between your ribs.

And we want perfect gentlemen which is what we got when their QB got his chops busted yesterday. None of those proper young men
lost their demeanor and did something mean like went after some payback. They behaved, well as young gentleman.
 
I can think of a whole lot of guys that were full of good character and integrity, but God help you if you got in their way on the grid iron... i.e. Earl and Sweetness, Al Smith, Childress, Bubba McDowell etc. etc..

i dont want convicts and thugs on my team, i just want guys that arent afraid to smack someone upside the head and kick a little arse. maybe even play with an edge and killer instinct...God forbid

OT - is Aaron Glenn still available? i know the Pokes cut him but I hadn't heard anything after that. When we had him we used to have a decent defense. He may be old but he can't be any worse than Faggins.

exactly.....these guys arent running for office they are just playing football.

if the guy can spell S-A-C-K and W-I-N, I am just fine.
Bring on the next Dexter Manley for all I care.(minus the cocaine fetish of course).
