Texans work out DT Marcus Green

DiehardChris

You betcha!
From KFFL.

I assume they're doing this just to get some more depth, but it also makes me wonder if they'll think about taking Grady Jackson off waivers... I don't know if he's a character issue guy or not - I'm guessing there are issues if your team suddenly cuts you when you're a starter, and had 13 tackles for a loss last season.

another smallish one gap type DT according to SI. Seems we need a big two-gap type to keep Guards off of DeMeco more than another one-gap 3technique DT.

What about Grady Jackson? Just cut by Falcons.

Or is he a headcase? I know about the offseason lawsuit vs. Falcons...

But dude is big, and he's a run stopper.

Makes too much sense for the Texans to do it. He probably doesn't sleep in Care Bear under-roos and have a halo over his head 24-7. He just tackles guys and fits our needs.

Maybe if he could play special teams or backup the LT spot we might be interested in signing him. Then of course we'd pay him way too much and he'd tear his knee up against the Raiders and never suit up for us again (but stay on our books for three years).

Too negative? My bad.

According to an Atlanta article, Grady was not keeping to the prescribed scheme.......he insisted on "improvising" too much.

The lawsuit evidently didn't get him canned. That was a done deal a while back. His play recently has still been pretty darn good good for a 10 year vet. So something pretty unruly must have occured......and probably recurred for this move to transpire.............Do WE want a beast that can't be controlled? Or could Matador Kubiak tame this bull enough to fit in with the rest of his "bulls?":shades:

YES!!!! Are you kidding me? Bleeping YES! I think that Mario needs a little bit of chaos around him. I truly believe that Mario is being overcoached a little bit. Sometimes you just gotta go with the flow and that's what this guy sounds like. Our defense is very bland. Boring. Overly coached. Just let them play and it'll fall in place. That karate sack by Kalu was exactly that. Since then... *sigh*....

That's still not nearly enough reason to cut a guy with his skill outright. They could have benched him and used him as a backup until the end of the season - then gotten picks for him... for a guy with his numbers last year - a pretty good pick or picks for him, actually.

The trading deadline wasn't that long ago - I can't imagine they didn't know by then that he wasn't keeping to the scheme and improvising too much. There has to be something that hasn't come out yet.

Just to speculate further on why they brought Green in - on Lance Zeirlien's podcast he mentioned that Jeff Zgonina had a really bad game against Tennessee... I wonder if maybe the coaches are just trying to see if they can find a FA upgrade over Jeff, then release him.
