Stop booing our team....

I was at the game, and just wanted to say I was disappointed that the fans were booing the team going into half time. They knew they were playing poorly and booing wasn't going to change anything. Show some class and stop booing like the mobs up north. I just felt like saying that to the fan base and GO TEXANS!!!!!:texflag:

Did we hurt their feelings or did the Titans kicking their butts all over the field do it for them .

I know the team played horribly, but still doesn't warrant the boos. What does booing do? Make us all look like a bunch of clown IMO. I just disagree with booing a bunch of guys who are doing the best with what they have. Simple as that.

Has nothing to do with feelings, it has to do with class imo. What is the point of booing? What does it accomplish? It makes the fans look like a mob, like Boston fans, or Phillie fans. No point in booing the team even if they stink. If you don't support them good or bad, don't go to the game.

If you think that is bad, I was watching the Seahawk fans boo S. Alexander because they didn't like his stats - and their team was up by almost 20 points...

It makes me feel better, but I seldom boo.

It's very hard not to boo when its 3rd and 22 and we run. Or when its 35-7 and, while it's not true, it looks as though our offense isn't even trying.

houstonhurrican,

I know many other fans are much worse than Houston fans, I just haven't had many experiences with Houston fans booing players or the teams like I have had up north. I just think it's a pretty crappy thing to do. It just reminds me of the Phillie fans throwing D-Cells batt's at the Flyers, or booing the Eagles like clowns.

You invest time , money , and energy on a team and they know that this game means alot to the fans and for 3 quarters they flat out stink .... booooooooooooooo !!!!!

I hate booing, but if it warrants the situation, do it.. Team stunk it up with what 24 yards at halftime? and most of that was on that 3rd and long draw play. I'd be suprised if McNair himself didn't boo the team after the first half..

I'd rather have us boo than for the fans to be quiet and have a brown bag over their head. At least booing shows we care, even if it was in a negative but well deserved way

I totally understand and agree. At that point, there was absolutely no need to remind the team how poorly they were playing.

On the bright side, the silent drill team at halftime was a spectacular performance (as usual)...

AnthonyE,

Trust me, I wasn't happy at all with the way the team was playing, I was kind of ticked, but I still didn't feel they should have been booed.

Boston fans, Philly fans, and NY fans boo their teams...and they all have better franchises than us. Its about time we start booing, it shows the players that we DO NOT accept their mentality and effort and look what happened...they got back in the game didn't they? Was that a product of our boos? Maybe not, but I know it probably was pretty embarrassing to be on the field while your at home and getting booed and people are leaving.

So, are you opposed to booing in general?

If not, just what threshold do you feel has to be met in order to warrant booing?

Yeah, the Marines did a good job. The Color Guard wasn't nearly as good as the Marines, they didn't represent the Air Force as well as I think they should have. They were out of step, they were talking before they marched out. They obviously haven't been practicing enough. No big deal though.... the silent drill was pretty cool though.

I definately understand what you guys were feeling, I just don't think it's good as a fan base to boo the team. Maybe I am just not as much of a fan as you guys are. I still wouldn't boo the Astros, and I am a BIG Astros fan. Like when Lidge gets booed all the time. I am not one of them.... just don't think it does anything good.

I will however sit and ***** and complain, I will tell the people I am at the game with that I am pissed and they are playing like crap, but I will not boo.

I am generally opposed to booing. I guess it just reminds me of my experiences up north with the REALLY obnoxious fans. I just don't like it when our fans remind me of those fans.

I just don't boo the teams really. I don't boo the players when I am unhappy mainly because it seems pointless. Rather than booing, I will just stop going to the games if I don't like the way they are performing. It seems to me the most effective way to get the teams attention would be to not support them with ticket sales. But, that's just me.

I guess if you guys want to boo go ahead and boo. It really isn't as bad as the fans up north, I just go annoyed at the game when they booed the Titans, and it kind of ticked me off when they booed going into half time.

I think I'm a classy guy. I live a honest decent life. That being said...

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO for the tacky play in the first 3 quarters.

I'll boo my team if I think it's warranted. I do not boo very much but they deserved to be booed today. Our 4th quarter efforts? Maybe the booing had something to do with it. We're letting our team know that we're not happy with what they've done so far. When one hears 50,000 people booing as opposed to just going along with what a guy says (Sherman). Sherman is failing right now. We have a superstar in Ahman Green and he's not able to do a thing.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... tells the coach that 50,000 people see something different from what your employee (coach, analyst, review guy, who the heck ever) is telling you to do.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO to your request to cease the booing.

The Texans sucked for three quarters. It was embarrasing. The thing is... we've been sucking pretty bad since the Atlanta game. Maybe we won against the Dolphins but we still sucked in the game.
Go Texans! :fans:

I myself do not boo, but please do not tell people who pay at the minimum $50 a ticket, $5 for Cokes, $7 for Beer, etc. that they cannot voice their opinion regarding the teams performance.

Not to mention that Houston fans care a hell of a lot about our teams. So, to say that fans should not boo, sorry, gotta disagree with you.

Besides, they are big boys who make a lot of money, they can take it.

So cheering when your team is getting it's arse handed to them make you a classier fan?

Has nothing to do with the class of the people in the stands. It's all about the product on the field. No one pays to sit next to Joe Blow. They pay to watch a good product.

NitroHonda,

I understand but disagree. I don't think the fans will be any better at calling plays than the coaches are. I don't think booing helps in any way. The coaches are very aware of what is going on out on the field and that they were sucking. That's all, just a friendly post in the forums, more of an inquiry I guess than a request(even though it was worded as a request).

While I'm not a great fan of booing - we only had 1...or was it 2...first downs in the first half...Half, I say. That is beyond inexcusable. I didn't boo today - but I certainly felt like going down on the field and snatching some players bald headed.

I think I'm as classy a fan as there is in sports and in general I think booing is warranted at times to express to the people in charge that sloppy and mismanged games aren't acceptable. I don't agree with booing players in general who are working their tail off or ones that just aren't fan favorites. But when I see lackluster play or pure ineptitude, it is fine for a paying fan to show what they think.

Oh,

Well when I went to the game I wasn't really expecting them to win, I really just went to watch them play a game. They have been playing poorly and I may or may not go to another game this season.

I officially retract my original request to stop the booing. You guys are right but I still will not boo them, I just won't go to the games if I don't like the way they are playing. I am not going to give them my money if they don't do anything positive with it.

Bingo. I did boo at one point, because I found myself truly asking "are they trying?"

Guess what, if we win no one will boo. until then booo on. This team deserve it, we playing like its Dom Caper team again.

Buffi,

I cannot agree more. I couldn't believe how bad they were playing, I wasn't sure they would win, going to retract saying I didn't think they would. I just wasn't sure if they would. But when they were playing like they were I did want to go down to the field and dragon kick someone in the face. Instead I just sat up in the stand and complained to my GF, and wanted to leave(I couldn't bring myself to leave though).

i agree, rep your way... it's classless imo. If you don't like the product, leave. Lord knows half of the people in the stadium don't show up until halftime anyway b/c they're still outside getting blasted in the parking lot.

Leahmic223,

Now if I ever saw ANYONE throwing objects at ANYONE on the field I would throw them on the field. That is not only uncalled for but very childish. Booing is one thing, but throwing objects is a completely different offense.

Exactly, and it is the same as my statement above. If I ever saw mismanaged or underprepared then I'd boo. Especially if it was a pattern. I wouldn't expect it on a day like today but for 3 quarters it looked like an uninspired effort...something no Texans team has a right to do.

Agreed. Booing isn't crossing the line but throwing objects is. We, as paying fans, need to be able to vent our frustration. Booing is a very good medium for that. I wouldn't be booing at a little league game or anything like that but these are grown men who are being paid a fortune for doing this as a job. It's their job and right now they're doing a poor job.

I did a search and I don't agree with skip much but I agree with this..from a while back
ESPN.
Which brings us to the real question: Should any professional athlete in any sport ever be booed at home? Seriously, under any circumstance, should you boo a player or coach or GM or owner of the team you root for -- even live for?

Sure you should. You pay outrageous ticket prices. You buy the right to literally voice your opinion within earshot of the overpaid underachievers who deny you your bragging rights and disgrace the good name of your city and team.

You know your e-mails and letters to the team won't get read -- not by the people who count. But your boos will be heard.

Still, can booing help your team? And are there certain superstars who have earned the right to never, ever hear a boo from you as long as they play?

Yes and yes.

Wolf,

I agree with that. The manangement will hear the boos. I think they will also feel the loss in proceeds from people not buying tickets. Just a thought.

It was a joke.

Just saying the team DESERVED to be booed at, the boos should have turned into some chants.

Man 2 first down conversions and 24 total yards...that is flat out unacceptable and I don't care how good the Titans defense is.

Yeah, what the hell was going on with the Offense in the first 3 quarters? Do any of the guys know wtf was the problem? I was to busy taking pictures and kept on missing stuff in the game. One thing I did see was Schaub running away quite often. Was it just the O line causing all these problems?

One thing to think about though. Even with how bad the offense was. It is amazing that we could have won this game even with 6 turn overs. I couldn't beleive we even had a shot at this game with the number of turnovers that were commited.

I agree with that but there is still too much excitement for this team for Reliant to not be sold out still.

Shaub,Kubiak etc etc... was like a breath of fresh air for this franchise

I would've booed after the first half. What fan wouldn't have? The offense was putrid and didn't even deserve the NFL logos on their jerseys. Thank God I didn't pay to watch that crap.

Boo away, as consumers you have two choices to express your disdain for the teams poor performane, don't pay to see or buy their merchandise or boo them when they play badly.

When I underperform at work, I get negative feedback, why should football players be any diffferent.

I'm sorry but the team deserved to get booed for the first 3 quarters....from the idiotic play calling, to the lack of heart out there.....I didn't really care who won, but even I was upset to pay money for the horrible crap that the Texans displayed out on the field for 3 quarters....it ended being a fantastic game at the end, but fans do have the right to boo and they should if a their home team is playing pathetic.

I love this one, it comes up a couple times a year. I dont boo the team, even though I booed the 40,000 people that left the stadium before the comeback, but if you want to booo go ahead.

I just love how some people equate it to the type of fan or person you are. Each fan has their own way of displaying their displeasure with the team, I tend to do a lot of cussing and some booo.

To each his own knock yourself out. Heck they diserved it at the end of the first half. Telling someone they shouldnt boo because it doesnt help none is like saying cheering really helps the team play better. Do you really think that the players put out that much more effort if you cheer, if you do then the opposite holds true as well. If you boo they try less, not true, trust me a guy like Demeco Ryans is going to give 100% no matter what. The thing it does help is relieve some fans frustrations.

Actually I do beleive that an electric atmosphere really get the players pumped up. It also helps throw the offense off when they cannot hear the audibles and such. I do think cheering can have a positive effect on a team.

actually, studies have been done which resulted in the conclusion that home field advantage is mainly attributable to the social support of the home audience.

Whatever though, I already said I should have stated it more as an open question than a statement. I still won't boo the team, and you guys who want to go right ahead and boo all you want.

it's peoples natural reaction to boo..............I mean seriously do you expect someone to yell "go team go" when there team has played piss poor year after year????..............it's a natural human reaction.

No, I didn't sit there and cheer them on. I bitched and complained to the people I was with. That is how I vented. We all kind of vented to eachother. Then I went and walked around for a few minutes, then I went back in when everyone else was leaving.....

Hey a guy drops two or three hundred on a family of four and the product sucked like it did today....more power to him. It looked like a pig. Smelled like a pig, no matter how much lip stick is involved it's still a pig. So the guy is supposed to say there is no pig on the feild ? I don't get that logic.

The only problem I have with the crowd is hollering when the team is on offense with the ball. I know a bunch of coparate types hold the tickets...but that's just stupid. May be they should offer the million aires etiquette class before the kick off.

Will say, whether anyone in the Texans organazation cares or not...there were ten thousand or so that held the roap to day and didn't bug out at the third quarter on the team . Didn't see too many corparate types among them though.

So you're saying that you'd rather that if the fans are getting agitated with the team that they should go walking? 70,000 fans walking around in the concourses? Seems it'd be easier and less chaotic to just to boo.

I don't boo.. my kid doesn't boo with two exceptions. Cheap shots by either team and bad calls by the officials. That's it. But if you pay for a ticket.. and we allow people to yell at the team.. I suppose if you want to boo that's your right.
