Moneyball a must read if your to understand the direction of 49ers new GM, in a nutshell they will trade their pick, regardless the target is Aaron Rogers.
2. Phins - Cedric Benson RB, Texas.
Everydown back with package of skills, will field offers but no bites.
3. Browns - Alex Barron OT, Florida State.
Cleveland has been begging for a left tackle, finally they fill this need.
4. Bears - Braylon Edwards WR, Michigan.
The most complete WR in the draft, knows how to cope with the cold, diciplined.
5. Bucs - Cadillac Williams RB, Auburn.
My favorite back in this draft, reminds me of Curtis Martin, can't miss prospect.
6. Titans - Derrick Johnson LB, Texas.
Defensive playmaker with speed & athleticism, a no brainer.
7. Raiders - Mike Williams WR, USC.
Maverick move of course, the big bad *** WR Davis covets.
8. Cardinals - Alex Smith QB, Utah.
My favorite QB in this draft, doesn't have the pro skills of Aaron but the mind of Montana.
9. Redskins - Erasmus James DE, Wisconsin.
The best pass rusher barr none, another great defensive catch for Gibbs.
10. Lions - Thomas Davis S, Georgia.
Offense is now stocked and loaded time for a defensive playmaker.
11. Cowboys - Antrell Rolle CB, Miami.
I'm not sure the best corner lasts this long but a great fit for the Cowboys who will bite.
12. Chargers (via Giants) - Jammal Brown OT, Oklahoma.
They need to upgrade the Left Tackle and get a bargin with a franchise LT this late.
13. Texans - Elton Brown, OG Virgina.
Dissappointed? Dont't be, this guy is exaxtly a perfect fit for the Texans, I've wathced him & he can pull like a mother, should be excellent in zone blocking schemes or smash mouth. the #1 priority is protecting David Carr and establishing the run, this guy will be all-pro- a beast......
14. Panthers - Ronnie Brown RB, Auburn.
Injurys to their RB's and the fact one of the three elite backs is still available swings thier pick.
15. Chiefs - Marlin Jackson CB, Michigan.
Secondary is a weakness, this guy is a physical shutdown corner ready to start in the NFL.
16, Saints - Kevin Burnett LB, Tennessee.
Talented linebacker best suited to become a premier OLB in the NFL.
17. Bengals - Anttaj Hawthorne DT, Wisconsin.
Hot position & the best of the lot, which is what the Bengals need.
18. Vikings - Shawn Cody DT, USC.
Will have a great combine, another addition to the Viking DL with fellow USC alum Udeze.
19. Rams - Adam PAC MAN Jones CB, WV.
Don't need to tell you all the Rams need defense, here they grab the second best CB.
20. Cowboys (via Bills) - David Pollack, DE/OLB Georgia.
One would think Parcells would be grinning ear to ear, great production for the future.
21. Jaguars - Brandon Browner CB, OSU.
Will require patience, very young but exceptionally talented, could wind up being the best at his position given time.
22. Ravens - Mark Clayton WR, Oklahoma.
A consistant weapon at WR is needed, the best after Braylon a pure #2.
23. Seahawks - Dan Cody DE, Oklahoma.
Seahawks need a pass rush, happy the second best DE falls to them, will also be aggressive in free agency.
24. Packers - Marcus Spears DT, LSU.
For all you Packer fans, Brett Farve has not retired, yet. address the DL.
25. Broncos - Travis Johnson DT, FSU.
Best pass rushing DT which works with the smaller Denver line @ altitude, high speed.
26. Jets - Heath Miller TE, Virginia.
Pennington needs underneath weapon, take top rated TE in draft, now if he could kick FG's.
27. Falcons - Ernest Shazor S, Michigan.
Since Mora is a defensive mind he sees the awesome potential in Ernest, boy that D is tough.
28. Chargers - Matt Roth DE/OLB, Iowa.
Verstiltiy for Marty, can play OLB in 3-4 & pass rush QB, a Babin clone.
29. Colts - Channing Crowder MLB, Florida.
Colts are soft....only in the middle, until now, some call him mini Ray.
30. Patriots - Carlos Rogers CB, Georgia.
The rich get richer, not fair still a great CB available @ the end of the 1st rd.
31. Eagles - Roddy White WR, UAB.
A darkhorse, who has all the raw skills to compliment TO & that tough Philly crowd.
32. Steelers - Justin Miller CB, Clemson.
Qualtiy, starting CB with speed & size, second in upside only to Brandon Browner.

oops, typo do you see anymore? seriously all spelling aside this is the best mock draft I've seen, most are lame and so far off its not even funny might just add all original and in process over the past three weeks up to tonight, of course its always evolving and I expect several trades but pretty much identified the most skilled prospects with teams needs, I'm sure there are flaws to fans of specific teams but overall its better than most

Nice mock, but Browner being picked above Miller, Rogers and Webster?

I think it may be possible to trade down some spots and still get Brown, that way we could get another 2nd round pick.

oh man can he play, very bright young talent with brash confidence (yes a bit of a trash talker, maybe something we need?). he does need an outstanding combine but if his 40 times are under 4.4 look out thats all I'm going to say

good point & I thought long & hard about this as I realize this is a high draft pick for a guard, but he is clearly the #1 talent at his position in the draft, this addresses the Texans #1 need, he will be able to start immediatly (which position & for whom I really haven't come to any conclusion on, maybe some help here?).
and as last years draft taught us taking your top guy with your #1 pick can be very effective, maybe not sexy but effective. IMO every team needs one but are second guessing everyone else trying to steal them, in this case its not worth the risk. Does anyone still remember the 2003 draft debate? the Texans really wanted to draft Jorden Gross (I remember several Mock Drafts with him listed as the Texans pick) but rightfully went to the higher skilled WR position in AJ, Gross slipped to Carolina with the 8th pick had a very good rookie year & a big reason why the Panthers made it to the Superbowl. Let me tell you all right now, Elton Brown is a far better prospect at this stage, he is bigger, quicker & more atheltic. The Texans should be happy if he's still on the board at #13

I wouldnt mind having him, Im just nervous about shaking up the O-line yet again...

Wiegert! Pitts gets one more year.

I like Brown and wouldn't be disappointed if we took him #1. What is the deciding factor in my opinion is that Baas maybe could be picked up with our #2. He can play any position on the OL and is also an excellant fit for our blocking scheme. This opens up our #1 pick for Marcus Spears and allows us to address two needs. Both could see playing time as rookies.

I like the pick. I watched him play and your right, he can run. Very talented player.

I was just on NFL draft countdown and they have us taking Brown with our 2nd round #44 draft pick. They have us using our #13 pick on Thomas Davis.

If we get him it will be Pitts kicked off. Most positions only have a 3 year learning curve where at the end of it the player must be good enough to earn his spot, not just take it because he's young and hasn't proven himself. Look at DCarr most analysts said that the pressure is on after only 2 years and he has to run a whole offence not just push guys around. Pitts isn't getting much better.

That's so strange, ive never even heard of Thomas, but still Brown will not be #44 no matter what.

So if that's true then how do you get Pitts going out the door? 2004 was his first year at guard right? Shouldn't he be looking at two more years based on the "3 year learning curve" or at the very least a second year?

I think that I will be very surprised if the Texans take an offensive lineman with either their first or their second round pick. I believe that the unit you see starting on opening day will be the same one that you saw on the field against the Browns (with a possible exception in the event of an unexpected big free agent signing).

We've seen the last of rookies starting on our line for the near future. From this point forward I think you're looking at another two years before a rookie even smells a starting spot on the line.

the idea of trading down & still aquiring Elton Brown is becoming more attractive plus gaining another 2nd round pick, somewhere around #24 (suggested by Texansfan88). I would be very surprised myself if the Texans did not address the offensive line to signal to Carr & the rest of the team that there must be improvement. if a premier talent is still there why on earth would the Texans not make that move. other than a bumper crop of CB's the remainder of the defensive positions are down, I like the Texans offensive parts with the exception of the line.

Brown is clearly the top OG prospect. But for some reason, most of the ratings and mock drafts I've seen have him slipping to the bottom of the first - the 20's - and I've seen a few where he is the first guard taken but not until the top of the second round. The only thing I can figure is that only one team - New England - has a high priority or need for an OG, so any team which takes him with a high pick would simply be taking BPA. There seems to be a good opportunity to trade down and still pick him up.

A guard must be really really good to be taken 1st round. There are only a few in the last decade taken in the 1st round. And im not sure Brown is the God among insects.

you are absolutely correct & I see the same things now that all the Mock Drafts are being posted. since mine was one of the 1st it certainly deserves some inevitable tweeking, but I'm sticking to my guns until after the combine. these picks reflect my own personel opinion from watching these College Football players during the season, until I get the chance to review additional data/results from the combine I'm sticking to plan.

After the combine then there is free agency & of course possible trades these factors will all have significant impact on who gets drafted & where.

How about this, you bring up New England (excellent point) what if the Texans draft the BPA @ #13, lets say its Antrel Rolle for arguements sake, what are the chances the Texans repeat their move from last year & trade up to the #27 if Elton is still on the board, jump ahead of New England just like last year with Babin? Again the Texans add two starters, that would allow current players to rotate into additional positions create depth & more flexibilty, thus addressing the pass rush (Rolle) protection for Carr & consistant running game for Dominack (Brown). food for thought

I have really been giving some serious thought to an idea I presented the other day and I'm liking it more and more.

What we need to make everything come together defensively, into a unit which can challege Pittsburg, Indianapolis and New England, is an elite, dominant DLman which demands constant double teaming. Haloti Ngata could be that player, next year, but will likely be a top 5 pick and almost certainly a top 10. For us to have any chance of getting him, we'll need two first round draft picks to trade up.


I would offer San Francisco, Miami, Cleveland, Chicago and Tampa our first round draft pick, #13, for their first round pick in 2006 and their second round pick this year. The trade value works and we end up with a high second as well as our own #47.

I would then trade back up into the first round, as beerlover suggested, and take Elton Brown as our first selection.

Then, I'd take Luis Castillo with our second round pick. This might require another trade to move up a few spots, or he might fall to our #47. Castillo is a strong run defender who would be paired with Peek, and who could anchor the weak side, allowing Peek to be turned loose to rush the QB almost every down. I don't think it will happen, but if C.J. Mosley falls to the second round, I might consider him over Castillo.

I would use pick 3A on Chris Spencer, a pro bowl caliber talent, to groom behind McKinney.

3B would be BPA, but focusing on LB.
