Kendrell Bell

Chances are he will be a free agent this year, he is still young (26) and is used to the inside linebacker position in the 3-4. Has good size, coming off an injury he might come cheap. Former defensive rookie of the year. Could challenge Foreman for the starting job. is much bigger than foreman too. 6'1 257.

Yea I posted this in another thread and was wondering the same thing.

I really am wondering if Bell is going to be back next year with the Steelers. If you look at it, their defense is doing great without his efforts this year. The Rooneys were notorious for letting go talent like Bells. Bell in Foremans spot is a natural, but he won't come cheap.

I think that Bell would be a good pick up but there is always a certain amount of "buyer beware" with him. Bell does have the skills and system expierence, but he is coming off of injury and has a history nagging injuries.

I am not saying disregard him as a possible pick-up...his value to us just depends on if there are other FAs we are looking to make a run at or what our initial draft strategy will be.

I think he will be this years Kearse. JK bounced back strong after a few years of nagging injuries.

I just dont think you can pass up on a player like Bell, who if not injured would be a steeler for life. He comes from the 3-4. We have a need at ILB (IMO) and I think he will see houston for the team it will be in 2005.

why would the Texans puck up another linebacker? What is wrong with the copr we have? I mean to pick up bell would cost a pretty penny and that's money we coudl use on bigger needs. I like the corp we have now, I like Peek comming in to rush the passer, Charlie Anderson seems promising and our starters are solid. Babin has room to grow and who knows about Peek yet but we all know how big his upside is! There are no glaring holes with our LB's.

^What he said.

The issues with Bell are/would be the amount of money he is after, and his health. Like Kearse a team on the cusp of a SB could justify the risk Bell might be, but teh Texans, or any team still growing into a potential contneder...he's just to much of a risk and to costly.

I would take Bell in a NY minute. Hartwell would be an upgrade too. Look at the Pats LB corp. They have guys on the bench barely playing, like Colvin, that would be a serious upgrade over our current starters. They have Bruschi, Johnson, Vrabel, Colvin, Phifer, and guys in the wings learning the ropes, like Tully Banta-Cain. The bottom line is that you can't have too many good linebackers. Jay Foreman would have trouble cracking the Pats roster for christ's sake.

I'd love to have Kendrell Bell on our team. We need to replace Foreman ASAP. Improving our front 7 on defense and o-line need to be the main focus this offseason. Throw in TE (could be considered o-line too) and WR and you have our major needs.

Kendrell Bell would work great for the texans you guys should also hope for woodson imagine woodson, a.glenn!

Hope 4 Woodson? Woodson is a good athlete but I'd much rather SAVE the money and kepp Dunta Robinson and Aaron Glenn not Woodson

I can see the point of both sides wanting Hartwell or Bell. Bell is without a doubt a player having more stature. Hartwell is a rising prospect, but not at the level of Bells. Bell plays so hard that he injures himself a bit much, but that is the nature of the beast in being an agressive linebacker in the 3-4. Just look at Ray Lewis, he's a player that lays it all out on every play and has had his share of dings the last few years but there is no arguement that you wouldn't want him. But Bell will definitely have a price. We should have a little cap room to sign a couple of free agents but a guy like Bell is a superstar and will require superstar money. Is it more important to seal up the ILB spot will a player like Bell to replace foreman or prepare for a contigency play for Payne? You can't have both.

Im not quite sure about this, but for some reason i keep thinking i heard this on ESPN or some other sports program, that Ray Lewis wants a big pay day from Baltimore or he is out... this is definatly wishful thinking, but ray lewis would be one hell of a player to add to the Texans team... him and Peek would be scary to defend... but like i said, i dunno if its true, and its probably wishful thinking

I thought he got his big deal years ago? Look man,if Ray-Ray EVER came to Houston....there would be NO WAY to stop me from gettin a Lewis #52 jersey the 1st day....but hey,I can always start a fantasy draft on Madden 2005 and get him. :heh: But yeah,he got his big deal some years back man.

About K-Bell...I'd take him,hes a good ILB,but his health problems will ALWAYS be a concern. If Ed Hartwell became avaliable,I'd take a look at him 1st.

I like Hartwell over Bell also. Bell is the better player, more athletic, but with his injuries, and some crazy things that happen to him......didn't he get shot in the *** before last season after the Colorado-Colorado St. game, and didn't he start the fight in Cleveland? Sounds like this guy brings a lot of baggage with him.

Hartwell is a good young player who plays alongside Ray Lewis, you can't tell me he hasn't picked up a few pointers......he will only get better and is a consistant player that will come with a cheaper price tag.

Lets put it this way, we will have 2 good ILB's in FA, I don't think we miss out on both of these guys.

Thinking of Joey Porter buddy.

Bell's replacement, Larry Foote, lacks Bell's size, quickness and explosiveness off the snap, but has been a steady, season-long contributor to the AFC's top-ranked defense. Even if Bell had been ready to play in Saturday's divisional playoff game against the Jets, he wouldn't have started.

Now, a player who figures to attract plenty of interest as a free agent during the offseason seems to be wondering if it's worth the risk trying to play again this season.

Like Jets defensive end John Abraham, who has been out for five weeks with a knee injury, Bell realizes that he might be giving away millions if he tries to play while hurt.

"I understand where he's coming from," Bell said. "When you get injured and you've got nagging injuries, injuries can cause other injuries because you're not yourself. I can see where his concern is as a free agent. He doesn't want to put himself out there 75 percent, and jeopardize getting injured and losing out for a good contract."

As a result, Bell's once-outstanding career in Pittsburgh is likely down to its final few weeks. With the 6-foot-1, 257-pound Bell likely to attract more money on the open market than the Steelers are willing to pay him, they may try to sign the less-expensive Foote and let Bell walk.

did anybody know of who else might be in the market for a good ILB? i dont want to end up offering a huge signing bonus with tons of incentives just to get him. what do yall think if the texans went after him they might offer him? :hmmm:

I'd settle for Bell or Hartwell. Hartwell would be in the Sharper mold. Very solid, but no Ray Lewis, but there's not many of those so Having Sharper w/ Hartwell would be a good inside duo or Sharper/Bell. I like what I hear about Grisby so if we got him Bell/Hartwell might not matter. Thoughts on taking Crowder from Florida @ 13 or trading down to get him. Personally I'd rather see us go O-line or Heath Miller or again trading down for more picks.

i'm not putting the starting ILB role on a rookie, Hartwell is going to play tons better than Grisby. Remeber how Sharper shone after he got out from the shadow of Lewis and Boulware, Hartwell will shine the same way once he is out from those two and Suggs.

He is not the flashy player, but he is younger than Bell, more durable, and will be a better fit with Sharper, what way to vamp up your D than have 2 former Raven starters right in the heart of it.

Unfortunately, there is going to be a lot of competition for guys like Bell and Hartwell with teams like the Cowboys and Raiders probably switching to a 3-4, and if Romeo Crennell(sp?) gets a head coaching gig he might switch his team to a 3-4. There could very well be a bidding war for guys with 3-4 experience this offseason, and I don't think Bell or Hartwell have ties to Houston that would give us an advantage over other teams in attracting them.

The only reason I don't believe Bell can demand so much money is because he has been hurt for the past few years. I think Hartwell is in the position to demand more money than Bell because he has played and has shown that he has the potential to be a great ILB. I would be happy to have either one, but IMO I think we have more of a shot to land Kendrell Bell because I don't believe Bell can be in a position to be demanding so much money because of his past injury problems. Unless a team just decides to outbid everyone for
Bell's services like Philly did with Kearse, but if thats the case I say we do better trying to find another ILB in the draft instead idonno:
