The Patriots are off to an excellent start this year. They have looked dominant on both sides of the football. Can they keep it up all year?

5-0 so far...

Upcoming Schedule:

@ Dallas Cowboys
@ Miami Dolphins
Washington Redskins
@ Indianapolis Colts
BYE WEEK
@ Buffalo Bills
Philadelphia Eagles
@ Baltimore Ravens
Pittsburgh Steelers
New York Jets
Miami Dolphins
@ New York Giants

I highlighted the games that I think will be the biggest test for them. The next three games that they might struggle at are Redskins, @ Ravens and @ Miami (the Dolphins always play hard against the Pats). Maybe Philly.

From the games I have watched, they look better than the Colts, and twice as far ahead of any NFC team.

I think they will go undefeated, including post-season. What do you think?

It's too hard. Besides, once they get to a place where they lock-up the division, and home field advantage they won't play with the same intensity...

For the record, I wouldn't mind seeing it though, just to silence those bitter men in Miami once and for all.

I agree that it's tough. But look at their ending schedule. Three of their last four are at home, and the only away game is to the Giants, who have been flimsy at best.

If this poll is still up in a month, I'll come back... for now, I'd need a "it's too early to tell" button.

Do they have the potential to do it? Sure. But that only takes you so far, and running the table would require a tremendous amount of luck.

A lot of the players who were around for the 21-game win streak are still on the team. Granted that was over two seasons, but on the other hand the '72 Dolphins played a 14-game schedule (17 including playoffs and SB). Lots of teams recently (Pats, Colts, Steelers) have put up 14-win seasons. It's two full games where you don't have to worry about bad breaks, injuries, etc.

I do know one thing: If they get through to Indy without a loss, and win that one, the frenzy over it is going to be huge. The Pittsburgh game is at home, and look who's on the schedule twice... including the second-to-last game of the season!

my head says they shouldnt and every time peyton and co started a winning season i always knew they'd lose eventually.. but with the pats, i think they have a real shot to go 19-0... aand i think peyton is the only one that can stop it

Unlikely they remain undefeated thru the Indy game: Cowboys, Washington & Colts are all very tough games especially with 2 of those games on the road.

Hard to say--I think, assuming they make it undefeated toward the last few games, they will be tempted to rest their starters for the playoffs, as most any team does. It's hard to justify losing out on the playoffs because you were gunning for a regular season record and ended up losing a key player. Having said that, the Pats run a deeper bench than some teams do start. So it's possible.

No someone will eventually get them, once or twice, but i can't see belichick letting them lose in the playoffs. ** sighs**

The Patriots are in a zone right now...They aren't having their rythm disturbed...THey are simply controlling every aspect of the games they play...

When a team is truly able to challenge them we will see what that team is really made of...

Right now it's too easy...

No....I'd pick the colts to do it before the Pats and I don't think they will either.

No, it is too hard in this league. Even if it isn't the Colts I think the Steelers or a random team that has been playing off and on like the Ravens or Eagles could do it.

I will say that I'd LOVE for any team to do it just so those old bitter Dolphin losers have to keep the bubbly corked.

Sounds like there may be a trend....

There is a reason it only happened once ever in the long history of the league...tough, balanced league. I think it's more likely they lose a couple than win them all.

Yep.... chances are they will end up being 14-2 or something like that. I just have a gut feeling that this group can take the 16-0, though.

If they hadn't increased the number of regular season games, many teams would have gone undefeated by now. The Colts got to 13-0 two seasons ago didn't they?

I think the Jets or some random other team like that gets them.

I would hope someone someday goes undefeated, just not the Patriots or Cowboys - ever.

What do you think now?

Well, they are probably the most balanced team I've seen. They can kill you in sooooo many ways. Most of the teams over the past years that might have been considered as having the potential to run the table have had a big but (and yes I mean "but" and not "butt").

The Indy teams of the past couple of years have always been "but can the defense hold up?"

Baltimore a few years back was "but can they generate enough offense?"

New England up until recently was "but can they generate enough points to keep up with Indy?"

San Diego was "but how long before Marty screws this up?"

Chicago was "but how long before Rex screws this up?"

But this New England squad doesn't have a big "but." Take away Moss and Welker and Stallworth will kill you. Take away the pass, they'll plug in any B-team RB and move the ball enough to win. Play man coverage and Moss, Welker, and Stallworth will kill you. Play zone and Brady will pick you apart. The defense is solid and wonderfully coached.

I'm not saying that they'll run the table because its a long season and you never know when the injury bug might bite. So said, I think these guys probably have about the most complete squad and best chance to go the distance.

Do you think that the old '72 Dolphins will turn to dust if the Pats go 16-0? The last seconds tick off on win number 16 and *puff* *puff* *puff* they all crumble like a vampire getting caught in sunlight?

long season...we haven't been the same offensive team without AJ. If the Pats stay healthy they have a shot, but there is still a reason that this has only happened one time ever....no Vanderbilts or Rice U's in the NFL.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. Hahahaha.

After yesterdays game, my thoughts on this matter are reinforced. They have the talent and coaching to go 16-0. The only question is whether anyone in this league can stop them. I doubt the Colts can.... but we will see.

It is evident, though, that if the Patriots make the Super Bowl, they will dominate whoever they play. If the Cowgirls were the best that the NFC had to offer, the Pats are in good shape (or any AFC team, for that matter).

the defense isn't perfect, and if Manning can pick it apart, and the Colts' opprotunistic defense has a turnover or two, the Colts would win. then suddenly everyone talks about Indy going undefeated.

a tie would be interesting.

Agreed, a tie would be interesting.

I doubt that the Colts defense can stop the Patriots offense. Sure, they will play it up and keep it interesting (by not getting beaten by 45 points), but I doubt they can keep them to less than 30.

The Patriots defense is capable of stopping Peyton.... or at least preventing him from scoring as much as Brady can.

We will see. I still think they will go undefeated.

yeah i hate those 72 dolphins. damn old guys getting together every year and celebrating a great time in their lives. no place for that in this world

They don't celebrate a great time in their lives; they celebrate the failure of others. There's a HUGE difference.

As far as I'm concerned, the '85 Bears already surpassed them anyway with 18 wins.

Agreed. The Bears were far more perfect IMO. Maybe it's because I am a huge defense guy.

I wouldn't be shocked if they did. They are playing football like it's a game of Madden, the stats on this team is incredible.

I really have no complaints, I have Tom Brady and Randy Moss on my fanatsy team. :evilb:

Don't count on the colts stopping the pats week 9, not without Marvin Harrison healthy that is. It should still be a good game, but my fantasy football steal Wesley Welker will be getting all kinds of touches & eating that LB corps alive.

they don't celebrate the losing of others. they use the loss as an excuse to get together every year and celebrate their old times. just enjoying a great time they had.

they're just celebrating a feat that has never been repeated since. they've never talked about being the best team ever (could be the '85 bears), they just enjoy the undefeated mark.

btw, they WERE the best team ever. ;) only undefeated team, only team to finish #1 in both offense and defense....sounds perfect to me!

I have those two plus Wes Welker, I have had some weeks those three beat the entire opponents squad by themselves. :splits: :doot:

week 6- i believed:cowboy1:

I don't have any emotional stock in the Pats, but if they end up in the Super Bowl against Dallas, I'll suddenly become their biggest fan. LOL

Short of a Patriot meltdown, I honestly don't see how any of the remaining teams can beat them. The Giants and Chargers don't measure up, and it'll take one of Favre's best performances to overcome the Patriot juggernaut.

19-0 here they come!

Concur. No one is beating them. In a twist of irony, the only two teams that had a snowball's chance in hell were Indy and Dallas.

Talk about win-win for Fox for the Super Bowl? Before the Dallas/NYG game they were assured of either Favre, the NY market or the Cowboys representing the NFC and likely a team gunning for 19-0 in the AFC. The Super Bowl this year will probably be the most watched of alltime.
