Texans vs V. Young ratings this weekend

rockabilly

We lost the ratings war barely, but Vinson is siding with the Texans.

We need to remember that when KEYE does something good, we need to praise them as well.

Vince Young beats Texans - in the ratings
But they won't be shown Sunday

Vince Young and his Tennessee Titans edged the Houston Texans in the ratings Sunday, but Young will not get the nod this weekend from KEYE-TV.

The local CBS affiliate will air the Texans-Jacksonville Jaguars game on Sunday while the Titans are at Tampa Bay.
"We had a choice. ... We're going to attempt to balance them out," said Gary Vinson, the programming/research director for KEYE.

The question of whether KEYE ought to air Titans or Texans games is one that is hotly debated among local football fans. This past Sunday seemed like a perfect chance to measure the respective support of the two teams, as they went head-to-head in the same noon time slot with neither team facing an opponent that was much of a draw.

"It was fan base vs. fan base," Vinson said.

On KEYE, the Texans' last-second 22-19 win over the Miami Dolphins drew a 7.2 rating, which means the game was seen in 43,400 of the 602,340 homes in the Austin viewing area. The Titans' 20-13 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on KTBC earned an 8.9 rating, seen in 53,600 households, Vinson said.

In spite of the larger numbers for Young and the Texans, Vinson said, "I think the Texans had a great showing."

Vinson said that in some ways, it was still too early to see how the season will play out. KEYE chooses games 12 days in advance.

The offering for Oct. 21 is a no-brainer, as the Texans play the Titans.

My God, maybe Vinson is a Texan afterall. I was worried about them not showing the Jags game this week but I gotta say, this is awesome. I wont be here this weekend, which sucks though.

Still not much to get excited about. Vinson's m.o. this whole time has been trying to balance between Titans fans and Texans fans.

By that reasoning, he still owes us a Texans game from week 2.

I'll be watching this one at Third Base as well. It'll probably be my last game as an Austin resident.

Pretty cool, too bad I'll be out of town Sunday. But it's still stupid there's even a debate about what team should be aired.

"It was fan base vs. fan base," Vinson said.

That's deceptive and wrong.

The Cowboys were not on, so there were thousands of Cowboy fans looking for a football game to watch. These Cowboy fans, many of which are UT fans, tuned into their ususal Fox NFL game and got the Titans. Do you really think that, up against a Cowboy contest, these folks will watch a Titan contest on CBS over watching a Cowboy game?

Good point, just another spin on the never ending PinkEYE conspiracy.

That's been my theory all along. There are Texans fans, Cowboy fans, and VY fans...and Cowboy fans that will watch VY over the Texans if the Cowboys aren't on.

I noticed their banner on front page of KEYE stating they they were going to show our game followed by the Cowboys. As you stated, if I'm going to go for the jugular one week then I can also give 'em some morphine the next.
