December 30th game questions

Practice Squad
We have tickets to the December 30th game. I am a big overplanner and have several questions.
We are staying at the Marriott Springhill Suites by the stadium and plan on walking to the game.
This is our first (and probably only) pro game. My husband wants to experience the tailgating fun. What time should we head over to the game? (It's a noon game) How do we mingle with the regular fans? What should be bring to tailgate?

My biggest concern is what will the temperature be in the staduim in December?

What will we need to bring into the staduim? Or a better question might be what do they allow you to bring? WIll it be cold and I will need blankets or will it be hot so I don't want to over dress.
All informatin will be very helpful.
Thanks
Tammy

its Houston, the tempeture in Dec. is usually around 60 degrees. They will probably have the stadium around 70ish. If you're wanting to tailgate be there around 8. If you're not show up around 11 or 11:30.

First let me say welcome to the board, The stadium will be comfortable unless it is freezing outside and I do not think there is a record of it freezing that early plus we have global warming on our side. Like the above mentioned it will be around 60 to 90 degrees so you should not need blankets. As far as tailgating Let me be the first to invite you to the Blue Crew in the NW corner of the Platinum lot. We would love to have you over and would provide you with some awesome entertainment before the game. If that does not interest you then you can try FILO in the orange lot, They seem to have a good time over in that direction and I have been there and will say that they can put the lights out. If that still rubs you the wrong way try the Yellow Lot in general, I know thay have the Mojo over there but watch out for the shotguns. You will have a great time whereever you end up so bring your family and get ready for some football. Feel free to ask anything as this board is full of well informed fans. Go Texans

I'm an overplanner myself, so I know your deal.

Basically, the temperatures in December in Houston can be all over the place. It can be coolish, it can be rainy, it can be warm, it can be really really hot. You will have to check closer to the date.

Typically, temps in Houston in December is jeans weather, though it can be broiling hot shorts weather too. And depending on the temp, it might be no jacket, light jacket or heavy jacket. I've never brought a blanket into the stadium nor felt like I wished I had.

The stadium is very vertical and doesn't get any wind inside. So usually it is warmer inside the stadium than it is on the outside.

If it is really cold or hotter than 80, the roof will be closed. If there is the threat of rain, the roof is likely going to be closed. They usually put a roof report out a couple of days before the game over at HoustonTexans.com in the news section of the website.

If the roof is open, the biggest concern usually is sun, depending on where your ticket is at. A hat and shades can come in handy. Sunscreen is handy too.

If the roof is closed, it is a comfy room temp inside the stadium.

Joe's advice on the tailgating is spot on. Don't worry about finding a tailgate to crash, the tailgates he mentioned are very welcoming.

Hope you have a lovely time.

Thanks for the great answers and the invites. We will be there for tailgating! Is there a lot of security issues getting into the gates? Since 9/11 I know security in alot of places is tighter. Here at OU games they are very strict. We are really excited about attending a game.
Thanks,
Tammy

Your handbag will be checked at the gate. No video cameras are suppose to be allowed, and no camera or binocular covers, supposedly. No drink bottles, booze, that sort of thing is suppose to be allowed. HAHA!!:) I don't attend college games so I really can't compare, but, I think security is pretty lame at Reliant. They do a physical "spot" check when you go through the gate, which is a joke. I have NEVER been checked below the waist. If you abide by the rules you follow at OU games then I am sure you will be fine at Reliant.

Tailgating is great fun, as well as visiting Bud Plaza before the game. They have food there, a band, face painting booths, the TEXAN store, all type of things for you to see and do. If this is your first visit to Reliant I suggest coming EARLY and staying late. Most of the big tailgating groups tailgate after the game until they run us off, win or lose. Allow yourself time to explore the stadium, it's an AWESOME place!! South end zone has the Cantina, and the North end zone has the Bullpen Pub. That's on the first level.

I second Joe's invite to the Blue Crew. Platinum lot in front of Bud Plaza, front corner next to the fence. We can give you better directions closer to Dec.

Thanks SheTexan. I was hoping to take my video camera in, wanted toget pictures of the family.
Sounds like the college game has more security than a Pro game.
Metal dedectors, nothing allowed in, etc.
Can't wait, have the parking lot map printed and course planned. I did't know anything about Bud Plaza. That's the kind of stuff I'm trying to learn about.
Thanks
Tammy

You can access the "official" Texans store through Budweizer Plaza. There is also a live band there Sunday mornings and the Bull Pen Pep Band plays there for a while before going into the stadium. The "Spirit of the Bull" statue is there and makes a good spot for pictures. To the East of Budweizer Plaza is the Coca-Cola fun zone for kids. There is a lot of things family orientated there.
