The good, the bad and the run game

alright thoughts on the game..

the good:
kris brown obviously

schaub made some good plays despite being off at other times- drove us down for the game-winning fg and was still impressive to me anyway

i thought the wrs played pretty well throughout.. walter did very well, as did OD and AD with david anderson coming through aswell occassionally

i thought the pass blocking was excellent later on after struggling early.. schaub never looked under pressure in the 4th and there were numerous times when schaub had all day to throw

i thought the secondary played very well overall- everybody was impressive.. petey did well, dunta shut down chambers and bennett was impressive on both defence and ST.. was impressed with CC's and hutchins tackling aswell- they were very solid

wynn was pretty good aswell

the bad:
run game.. enough said

the DL were pretty inconsistant- they were very streaky.. dont even remember hearing weavers name the whole game (and i dont think i missed it)

linebackers were good and bad- not as streaky as the DL though

prob forgot stuff but thats all for now

Funny you should say that, because that is exactly opposite of what I would have predicted for the Texans so far. The OL is doing a much better job, while the DL not living up to expectations.

I wasn't at the game but I remember watching on TV during an early Texans' Offensive Possession, Schaub and several O-lineman trying to quiet down the fans. I can't be sure how loud they were since I wasn't there but they did seem loud by what I heard from the broadcast audio. I really feel like the Texans' organization should consider having a Fan Day Pep Rally at Reliant Stadium on an off-day during the preseason. Then they could explain to the fans about when you are supposed to make noise and when you are supposed to try to be quiet.

What running game?? Dayne had at least a dozen runs of only 2 yards or less... it was pathetic today

I'm still puzzled that we can't do any better than No Gain Dayne. He runs soft, can't move the pile, and falls down faster than a toddler with an inner ear infection on a merry go round. It's pitiful.

I know. I had some serious envy of the Dolphins during this game. I would love to have a young RB as good as Ronnie Brown is on the Texans.

I didn't know we had a run game?

We NEED Green back for the Jags...NEED...unless Gado, Walker, or Dayne just miraculously shows up(That could happen...it is the Jags) but the Jags have a solid run defense...Green needs to be healthy, if not Green than Andre to spread the field some.

Watching the game, it looked like we weren't running the zone blocking scheme to me. It looked more like man on man power blocking. Dare I say we were much better with McKinney at center???
The D line seemed like it was running in knee deep water all day-in slo-mo or something. I counted 4 plays., for sure, where Miami was holding, but it wasn't called. That doesn't make up for a rather lackluster performance.
The secondary was MUCH improved. Petey moving over to nickle seemed to help everyone.
On a good note, we gave up less than 300 yds. net offense. The flip side of that was some short fields caused by turnovers and good returns.
All in all, I'm happy with the W, but this team is driving me nucking futs!!!. We are SOOOOOOOOO close to being a powerhouse, just not getting it all together yet.

Bennett was definitely a breath of fresh air. He had a nice deflection that Chris Chambers would've probably caught for a TD had he not been there. Owen Daniels came up pretty big with 6 receptions for 95+ yards. Especially in the 4th quarter when we really needed big plays, him and Walter both came up pretty big. The final 2 minute drill was pretty good, and Matt Schaub basically dissected their secondary. The second half defense was superb, holding Miami to 3 whole points for 2 quarters.

Ugh, Ron Dayne has got to go back to being the short yardage/3rd down back. Teams don't have to respect him because 1st contact is usually more than enough to bring him down. Our D-line is streaky to say the least. The pass rush was only OK. We didn't come up with tons of sacks, but we did have a decent amount of pressure, especially in the second half. Penalties were killer and murdered 3 of our drives, and took away at least 1 big play. The tight ends (Daniels, Bruener) had really hard hitting holding penalties, along with Salaam (LT seems to be getting higher on the list of needs this offseason). Unfortunately Schaub didn't have a fantastic outing like his previous 4. He did under and overthrow more guys than he usually does today, but everybody is allowed to have non-fantastic days. He was still solid, and pretty much took care of the ball, as I'm not going to get too angry about a tipped ball interception.

To be honest, I think 9-7 is a possibility for this team once we get our high powered playmakers back. I do think that this offense still looks pretty good for a (basically) first year QB, with a whole new set of teammates. I do realize there will be plenty of growing pains still, especially when the injury bug is whizzing all over our roster.

GO TEXANS

Morency is looking ok so far tonight for Green Bay. Had they kept him last year, then this year he'd have that seal of approval: "He used to play for Mike Sherman".
