Jonathan Wells?

Go Texans!
I slammed this guy for the first few years, but then he actually began to show some nice decision-making when he had the ball in last year with us.

Where is he, and why isn't our coaching staff looking at guys like this?

We need to do some major re-thinking on the running back spot.

We could dump Gado and pick up Wells for a pretty low bargain. And before you laugh at the thought of Wells...remember that he played under the Dom and Dumber (Carr) era, and I think he was playing fairly well considering the situation.

I don't like Kubiak's handling of the running back situation at all:

1. Gets a banged up Ahman Green.
2. Releases Darius Walker before camp's out, not even thinking that he should put him on the PS and let him go through rest of camp
3. Signs Darius Walker after Taylor goes down
4. Hasn't given Darius a chance to play in Ahman's absence
5. Refuses to play Gado, thereby rendering a game-time roster spot useless for the week...a spot that Darius could have filled and had a chance to do something.

Two cents.

First off, if Wells was worth a look he would have been signed by someone already.

Secondly, I believe that Kubiak puts a higher value on RB's that can pass-block. Wells was/is obviously lacking in this area wheras Dayne is relatively average-to-above-average here. The same applies to Darius Walker.

I agree that we are desperate at the RB, however, there are much better options (Patrick Pass) out there.

Wells is awful....there is a reason he has no job in the NFL. Gado has no wiggle, poor vision and can't make people miss....and Wells may be even worse. If you are going to re-think the RB position you should start somewhere else.

Hey, I was just following Kubiak's own reasoning and logic:

Dayne was a bust when we got him, but he's been semi-OK.

Gado was not exactly getting a lot of trade offers from other teams when we dealt Morency for him.

Lundy was Kubiak's "golden boy," with Kubiak openly and consistently letting the media know that "This kid is going to be playing in the NFL for a long, long, long time...he just has that look in his eyes..."

How could we do worse than a guy (Wells) who had actually began to turn things around there at the end? Seriously, I was a little discouraged that Kubiak got rid of him so quickly without giving him a chance.

As someone who regularly slammed Wells on this board for the first few years, I had the character to stand up and say "You know what, he's actually playing pretty good now."

I remember watching him pick up 5 or 6 yards at a time, and he was making some nice 3rd down plays to keep drives alive. He also caught the ball on screens pretty well...something NO Texans running back since Domanick Davis has been able to do.

I am off this topic now. Don't want to be a troll on my own thread.

Guys get cut and brought back all the time. It happens. And I don;t see why this has to be any different.

Can anyone seriously say that our backfield inspires confidence right now?

As far as I am concerned, Kubiak needs to sign and cut some running backs until he finds something that works--Make it a 3-game contract for every running back until he finds one that is consistent enough to warrant being signed for a one-year deal.

With the way the past two weeks have gone, I am even slowly getting on the Ricky Williams bandwagon. I have always been anti-drugs and anti-Ricky...but this Texans running back situation is a farce.

Now I am done.

Maybe by bringing Stacy Mack or James Allen out of retirement? Maybe...
Might not be a bad idea.

Did you see today's game? We got away with a win because of our field goal kicker...against a team that looks like the Dom Capers' Texans during his last year.

This is the first time we have won and I have been less-than-amazed by the way we won the game. Maybe the Steelers game when all our points were off defense/special teams...or maybe last year's Raiders game equals the emotion I felt today.

Congrats to the Texans today: You beat a junior college team on a last-second field goal kicked from the parking lot, at home.

Now, can we go about the business of finding a running back under the age of 26 who can stay healthy or at least "mend" faster than the AARP Man of the Year who's taking up a roster spot?

The "Play 2, rest 2" approach is getting old.

And Dayne is, well....never mind.

I'm rambling now.

Point is this: Is Laurence Phillips available?

Isn't he playing in a prison league somewhere?

BTW you must be kidding about Mack :gun:
