Here We Go Again...

So here we are after 4 weeks with the best team (statistically) that we've had in the first 6 years of our existence and yet we're in last place, just like every year at this time. And coming off another disappointing loss where the team showed very little focus, against an opponent that should have been easily beat. Will this ever end or are we doomed to have a bad professional football team in this town forever???
 
I don't think we have a bad team at this point. I think we have a decent team that played a bad game.

Geez, calm down. It was one loss. Yes, they looked bad but it's not the end of the world after one loss. I'm sure Chiefs fans were gloom and doom after we beat them 20-3 and look at them now and they've won back to back games including beating the Chargers. The Browns looked pathetic against the Steelers in week 1 and are 2-2 and look alright. We played well our first 2 games and we almost played well enough to beat the Colts. Out of 3 of our 4 games, we have played some good football. This one bad game isn't going to cost us the season. If we lose the next 2 or 3 games in a row, then we can be up and arms about being in last place and start with the negative vibes. But it's too early in the season for that right now.
 
Every year you're going to lose a game or two that you should win, and you're going to win a game or two that you should lose. (Bills game lat year, Colts game last year) Let's just hope we steal one down the road.
 
Take a look around the league in week 4. Upset wins were everywhere. I'll go with good team played a bad game.

Try not to doomsay or get pessimistic...leave that crap to folks like John McClain. This team needs to be given a chance, not turned on whenever they have a poor outing. :texflag:
 
Let me see if I can help:

1. Injuries: We lost our best wide receiver and a top 5 NFL wide receiver. Not to mention our only decent every down back, our star kick returner, our starting C, and a pretty dang good rookie named Jacoby Jones.

2. Depth: We have none making the injuries effect us much more causing a chain reaction. If our starters get healthy, you will see a much better team.

3. Secondary: Call me crazy, but I think everyone places too much emphasis on D-Line making your secondary better. Why don't a take the reverse and say a good secondary can make an average pass rush great. We get better here and the entire defense gets better.

4. Time of Possession: With no RB to control the clock, Atlanta controlled the ball for almost 34 minutes. Now we're paying the price for handing the keys to a broken down Ahman Green.

5. Andre Johnson: One of the best wide receivers in the game and the best player on our team. It hurts to lose a guy with his speed and his catching ability.

6. Turnovers: Possibly the biggest reason we have been losers the last two weeks. We have got to start winning the turnover battle again. If we don't, we will probably continue our losing ways.

7. Poor coaching decisions: The challenge in the 3rd and the timeout in the 4th when we were trying to decide whether to go for it or not on that 4th down. This will get better. Remember this is Kubiak's first stint as a HC period I believe. If I am not mistaken, he has never been a HC at any level. So the job he is doing has been tremendous and he will learn from the mistakes.

Don't worry. The only real problem among these I see is depth. When all of our guys are starting, we have a pretty dang good team with the exception of our secondary. Yes, we need to get better but first you get quality starters, which we have basically done. Next we get depth. The turnovers just haven't been going our way, but did you watch the end of the game. We all of a sudden started playing good defense when we started blitzing. I'd like to see more of that. Keep your head up. This team is headed in the right direction.

Nice post. I don't think our only real problem is depth though. I think we are a legitimate, healthy, back and a secondary away. Till we lock those things along with a Kicker... we're going to have a tough go of it. In our conference, in our division.. we can't have 1/4 an NFL secondary and win.

Totally agree. My point was is that even without those couple of things, we have a pretty dang good team. There isn't a team in the league without holes. Our lack of depth is what is really being exposed right now in my opinion which includes our RB and our secondary. My point is our team with a healthy Andre Johnson, Ahman Green, & Jacoby Jones would be much better off and may have won the last two games. Also, few people realize how much we are missing Steve McKinney. Flanagan is terrible in the running game. But no use crying over spilled milk. :texflag:

I think Lance Zierlein summed it up best in his blog comments (he predicted a Texans loss):
I always look at games from a handicapping perspective because it allows you to take emotion out of it and start breaking games down according to matchups on the field and according to football situations (trying to win on the road vs. a team desperate to win). You also have to go back and look at how the other team played and not just the final score. I just don't know why everyone was thinking that this was such a lock for the Texans to win when they were missing Mathis, Green, Jacoby and Andre. Think about the Texans TDs this year. Andre had long TDs against Carolina (crossing route) and the Chiefs (long TD vs. single coverage) and Jacoby and Mathis have been either scoring TDs or getting the Texans into great field position. Those guys were gone. The offensive line couldn't run the ball with Flanagan starting last year but could with McKinney but McKinney is gone. It just looked like a lot for the Texans to overcome but they never gave up and I was happy to see Andre Davis have such an impact on the deep passing game.

Yes, yes and yes.

And to add to this, the Texans were able to run last year with McKinney, but also when they were playing crap run defenses.

We can talk about injuries not being an excuse blah blah blah locker room BS, but the reality remains that the guys we are missing from the team were keys to the 2-0 start. With them being out,the margin of error from the coaches and remaining players is pretty slim, especially on the road.

All teams have their strengths and weaknesses, and the Texans weaknesses are harder to cover when some of their key strengths are out.
 
Faggins is killing this team. Either he gives reach arounds to kubiak or something. No one in their right mind can say this guy is even a dime back. his blatant lack of footspeed is apparent. Teams go into games looking for him and i dont know what the coaches see in this guy.

Because as bad as he is, he's all they got. Prepare yourself to be mentally tortured the rest of the season.
