Oct.1 AP top 25 has LSU ahead of USC

Don't worry, After OU lays the smack down on them this weekend, they SHOULD be completely out of the top 25.

mack, you don't have VY anymore, YOU CAN"T RUN THE ZONE READ ANYMORE, & EXPECT THE SAME SUCCESS!!!!

even if preseason polls are eliminated, texas would be ahead of K-State just based on name alone. it'll all sort itself out

Oh and UT fans here's a question for you. How does Texas remain 5 clicks ahead of K-State in this poll after they lose to the Wildcats by 3 TDs - in Austin ?

1: Unranked prior to cracking the top 25 now
2: For all the talk going on UT still beat a ranked team in TCU (at the time at least)
3. Keep your bullseye on them fine...but don't push them in the grave when they aren't dead.
4. Knee Jerk Reactions

At least LSU finally jumped over USC.

They have been far more impressive up to this point.

And USC ! Something about them reminds me of the Sooner team of a few years ago that was supposed to be one of the greatest ever and then got whacked bad a couple times. Didn't K-State knock them off that year ?
I understand they have to play "AT" Cal & Oregon this year ? If they remain undefeated this Fall, they will have to work for it.

How does OU stay 27 spots ahead of Colorado? Why does OU only drop 7 spots while Texas drops 12 when OU lost to a much worse team (according to the pollsters).

Easy answer...the polls suck.

All good points.

you can't have every team lower than the team(s) that beat them, it would be a trainwreck.

and Texas looked far worse in their defeat than OU.

I dont know, maybe b/c...........

OU lost to a bad team by 3 away from home in the waining moments of a game.

Texas got smashed at home by 20 freakin' points to an equally worse team, & has struggled pretty much all year.

you figure it out.

Why? Isn't #10 supposed to beat #19 rather handily?

Sorry, but Colorado was considered a much worse team than K-State and still is. AP has them 36 vs. 24 K-State. Coaches have them 41 vs. 31.

From what I've seen Texas is overrated this year, But that doesn't change the fact that the polls are a joke without rhyme or reason.

that's not "much worse" at all. pretty much equal since all the teams in that area aren't too much different from each other talent-wise.

texas will get beat by OU and drop in the polls because losing=bad.

K-State's only loss is at Auburn. Colorado has lost at AZ State and Florida State at home.

There is ZERO evidence to conclude they are equal teams. To the contrary, based on record and schedule; Colorado isn't even close.

Don't take this to mean I think Texas will win next week. I think they're in deep trouble. (although I hope I'm wrong)

yes, but if you're going to make the polls accurate, then you want to judge a team based on their entire season. and Oklahoma has destroyed teams left and right, whereas Texas has barely won against every opponent (except Rice). even if Texas' loss isn't as bad as OU's, their wins aren't nearly as good as OU's, so put two and two together, and you get a lower ranking.

Yep, but my whole point is that you can't make the polls accurate; it's all inference and speculation. As much as I enjoy debating the polls, they should be relegated to the status of the NFL Power Rankings; fun, but irrelevant.

FWIW - I think you're right. Its the entire poll system I have a problem with; not Texas' ranking.

The poll that matters .... the Coaches Poll still has USC up top . Ugh I hate USC almost as much as I despise the the Sox and Yanks. (Pey-Me-a-ton , You are right up there with them)

The Horns ..... they arent as good a team as many make them out to be . As a die hard horns fan ..... that hurts. /cry

well technically the polls are irrelevant.....for now. they're nothing more than power rankings till the last BCS one is released.

also, i gotta say, for fans of teams like USF and Kentucky, the polls are the greatest thing in the world.

he's referring to last year, when the same things happened, and they played for a national title. so basically he's seeing OSU in the title game. unfortunately, that also means they'll be destroyed by a far superior SEC team. again.

also, i gotta say, for fans of teams like USF and Kentucky, the polls are the greatest thing in the world.

Why? Without polls, they could win their conference; go to a playoff and play for a national championship. Barring some sort of unbelievable sequence of events, neither will be in sniffing distance even if they run the table. What good is a BCS bid, if you can't play for a title?

because it's an amazing feeling to be ranked that high? that's why.

and trust me, a BCS bid would be incredible for USF fans, national title or not. absolutely INCREDIBLE. i imagine it's the same for Kentucky fans.

OK....but no matter how you spin it, if these kids win out, they are CHEATED out of a chance for a title just like Boise State last year.

if you say so. they're ranked 6th, and two of the teams ahead of USF are automatically going to lose because OSU plays Wisconsin and Cal plays USC. plenty of chances for them to reach the top 2. there's no way you can tell me that they won't have a shot if they go undefeated. boise state never got as high as 6. sure they're 9 in the coaches poll, but even so, boise state took an entire season to get ranked that high. to already be at 6/9? lookin' good.

Of course they have a "shot", but its not a guaranteed shot, and that's the problem. If Kentucky, South Florida, or anyone else for that matter wins their conference, they deserve to PLAY for a national title; not pray the polls, computers, and stars align just right.

Its time to remove the mythical from the mythical national championship. That can't be done until EVERY team controls their own destiny toward it. Funny how a high school team can play 15 games to decide a championship, but a college team can't.

i'm not too worried about it, i just enjoy every game for what it is, which is essentially a playoff game. i know if USF loses a game, they're done. sometimes it sucks, but i love it that way.

After Saturday, it won't matter.

Props to Xt he posted that LSU would jump USC. However I don't know if it was a function of the ducks struggeling vs Cal and LSU whopping up on the gators, Or, the east coast boys are still watching the baseball.

Texas recuirts the same way every year. The athletes they projected to be starters in the deffensive back feild have not progresed. Neither have the studs on both lines. And their linebackers absolutey under achieve. What will be funny is the orange bloods tring to run off Brown after his run of 9-1's and the NC. Gonna be a hoot this off season on the forty acres. Brown will earn a lot of respect from me if he holds McCoy out. the kid is hurt and he'd want to play even if he had a bone pretruding from a leg. You can't say to the kid when he's forty " Concussion ? Who knew ? " Well we all now know. It ain't worth it.

You know every year this comes up. And all this is is sour grapes. The college presidents, the slime balls that they are, set this system up so that the programs with the money, would not lose the money to the ankle nippers. And you can howl about play offs, and you can rail against how unfair it is for the ankle nippers. But in the end it's that old saying. You know the golden rule: he who has the gold rules. And the college tellvision contracts make it possible for them to rule. And the college presidents aren't about to give up that revenue stream to the ankle nippers like...South Folrida, or Rutgers or Apilachain St. Not untill someone pryes it out of thier cold dead fingers. The system is set up to protect thier investment they've made annually in major college football. And keep the ankle nippers as far away from a big payday that is acceptable under a smell test . You may not like it. But that is the way it is and it ain't going to change in our life times...if ever. Makes you feel better knock yourself out. But that's the way it is. You saw it this week. No one watched SMU -UTEP.....but every one turned on LSU- Florida. That there thingy is called reality.

Horn fans have had a pretty good run the last 5 years, This is just a down year for yall.

For us Aggie's we've had about 8 down years out of the last 9. Ouch

I think until USC or LSU losses they should be 1 and 2. USC had a tough game against Washinton but LSU had a terrible 1st half against Tulane. I cant remember a team that blew out every team they ever played. I think at least the first two spots in the polls are perfect. The rest is questionable.
