Kubiak's clock management is atrocious

Last week against the Colts and this last drive. No sense of urgency. Maybe we need to get a clock manager that the Jets had for Herm Edwards. Awful call on 3rd down. What a joke.

I agree totally. I figured he would've learned from his mistakes from last week but this was embarrassing. Ridiculous play calling.

Biggest problem is we can't run the damn ball to save our lives. Add to that the piss-poor playcalling and we can't do anything.

the 4th and 1 with 3:30 is an easy call field goal you still have 2 TO and the 2 min warning. wide pitch on 3rd and goal with a slow back. he has been bad calling plays and clock management all day.

I always thougt Kubes was a bright guy. His management of the clock has been Capers like. Not knowing how to manage a clock is inexcusable as an NFL head coach.

This game was definitely lost by the coaching staff. Bad play calling, bad time management and team was not prepared to play. Think this team has been reading too many press clippings. They overlooked the Falcons.

I hate our 5 wide empty backfield look. We fool no one with that. The defense pins their ears back and we are left with a hurried throw and a wasted play.

Whomever blitzed (or called the blitzes) lost the game for us. 3rd down blitzes were easily discovered and anticipated.

Bad coaching, awful defense, boneheaded mistakes, terrible clock management, questionable play calling, penalties, turnovers...

Besides that we looked okay.:gun:

I found the play calling too conservative. Fourth and 1, QB sneak plain and simple.

Kubiak got outcoached in every facet of the game today and it was sickening. Hopefully they can learn from this disaster.

Can we really say this team is for real after today's loss...I understand we were banged up, but some of the idiotic play calling, bad clock management, and piss poor play on both sides of the ball is inexcusable.

Are you kidding me? Dayne avg. 10 yards in the first quarters. But Kubiak kept running the play to the right side, like the other team won't freaking catch on. Kubiak must think Petrino is stupid or something.

We got coaches coaching the players, now we need to hire another coach to coach Kubiak and his staff.

I thought we should have forced it into AJ and Green more.

I honestly never thought we'd be playoff caliber until next year. We have obvious holes but I hope we can make some moves this offseason to shore up both sides of the ball.

The play-calling was god awful today so I hope Kubes can learn from today and make the necessary changes. Hopefully, not playing Ron Dayne will be one of them.

I hate how Kubiak turned it into a FG game. We had a 4 and 1 on the 1 yd. line and we decided to freakin kick it. jeez

We were badly outcoached today. Uh, I am a UT fan as well. This has been an awful weekend of football. Both coaching staffs deserve the blame.

I never want to blame injuries but when you are missing as many players, especially offensive weapons, that hurts. I do think the play calling was much too conservative and Kubiak had no killer instinct. 4th and 1, my god, do a freaking QB sneak for god sakes.

VERY disappointing game but I am not ready to throw in the towel like so many other on the official board were. If they learn from this it only makes them a better team.

He averaged that much because one play was for 25 yards. Take that out and he'd have run for a 2 yard average, which is what his normal day is.

Two things Dream:

1. Who is that incredibly gorgeous woman who's on your avitar?

2. I still have faith in the team although I'm beginning to wonder why Dayne is still here considering how much difficulty he seems to have holding on to a football. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't holding onto a ball...oh I don't know...HIS JOB! Man it's a good thing he's not doing something easy like digging ditches. No wonder GreenBay let us have him

This is a typical post-loss crybaby thread for the most part IMO. There is at least one valid point I think and that is that Coach Kubiak does seem to stink at clock management.

I'll also agree that pitching the ball out to Dayne was an odd call. I'd have called Schaub's number at least once there. We were less than a yard from the goal line. He could have put that over behind either Pitts or Weary.

Seriously, I don't get you sunshine pumpers think. When you see incompetence with the coaching be honest and call it out. It does not make you a bad fan. I wish I could put on those type of blinders in my life. It would make my life a lot easier. Hell our loser President lives his life like that.

I think we were limited by our injuries on offense. The most questionable call was going for it on 4th and 1 with 3 minutes left. That is when we should have kicked the field goal. If you want to question the playcalling... for the most part it is "why is dayne carrying the ball" I'm thinking we should call up DD or DW or whatever and see if he can carry the ball for the next 3 weeks.

DW will never carry a ball again in the NFL unless he's a ball boy. The question is why wasn't Darius Walker playing. I know the coach is usually right but, damn, if Ron Dayne is our feature back we're in major trouble without receiving threats.

the clock management wasnt as bad as you guys are making it out to be. the fact that we challenge calls that have no chance of being overturned giving up time outs. and the fact that we have came out timid in the first half of the last two games seem to be why we are playing bad.

i think kubes is just tring to stay in the game cause of the injuries. thats a big mistake our line is still not good enough to run the ball down someones throats the whole game. and our defense didnt look fired up untill the last few series. we need to put the ball in schaubs hands from the start and let him open up the run.

I was saying go for 3 with 4 minutes to go, let the D hold them and then go fir it all when yaq got the ball back..Damn if the announcers said the same thing...Oh well, we can 1st guess all we want, but let's get back to Houston, get healthy and get at it vs. Miami !!

No, you and others are just so predictable, it's not even funny.

It wouldn't have mattered how we lost today, not one bit, no matter what the reason. You still would manage to twist it into the " we lost today because of bad playcalling and poor clock management" schtick.

You don't want take into account what any other circumstances might have played into it, like playing without most of your key players having ANY thing to do with it.

Like I said, you're so typical, it's predictable. Typical knee jerk crybabying.

The clock mangement was indeed TERRILBE this game and bad last week!! I still like Kubiak and all but come on your better than that! I am not saying that we lost both games because of this but it was a big factor.

I am not going to throw Kubes under the bus just yet...he is the reason we have the optimisim we do for this season...

The playcalling was bad this game...no doubt. But it was excellent the first two games and good the 3rd game. I just think Kubiak got more conservative this week with the weapons he had.

About the clock management...Kubiak needs to work on that, either he needs to learn how to manage the clock or he needs someone to do it for him.

I don't think it is a playcalling problem. Controling the clock is all about how well you run. Look we can't run for 4+ yards to save our lives. It limits you so much when you just can't run. Playcalling must be changed when this happens. Matt Schaub threw 40 passes today. That's not something we want consistantly...not with the way we play offense. I have no problem with him throwing that many passes, but its just not how we play offense. We are a running football team and we can't run. Give Kubiak a break it's not like he has a dominant offense out there to work with. #1 and #2 WRs injured. #1 running back injured. We already have limited depth at RB. We've got our #2 FB playing RB for god sakes.

Though maybe forgotten by now, losing Chris Taylor in the preseason was one
of our teams biggest setbacks for this year IMO.

ain't that the truth, what is kubes man crush with dayne, he's not a short yardage back or a threat to take it to the house

Finally a voice of reason. Rep coming your way.

How many times was there a situation where we needed 3 or less yards and could'nt get them .

Dayne is no Green that's for sure .

I think the offensive injuries and the not knowing exactly how the back ups would respond caused some of the conservative play calling. The lack of those key players did cause a disruption of Schaub's rhythm - he just couldn't seem to get it together and get on a roll. He was ok with at least JJ and Green in there last week - losing those two plus Mathis was just too much to overcome in one week for both Schaub and Kubiak. IMO

It is the defense that perplexes me. At then end of the game, they played like a group of guys possessed by defensive demons - and they didn't play the first half like that because?????? I don't think the first half was how the defense was told to play - they just didn't play period.

The penalties also bother me - that is inexcusable and too reminiscent of years past.

Go figure. I hope they can get it together by next week - losing three in a row is totally unacceptable.

I think everyone is right.

The playcalling was bad and some of it had to do with personnel and how the players were playing.

But, yes, Kubiak and crew made some questionable calls. Some of that was because of the players and some of it was just bad playcalling.

Something that I haven't seen mentioned is that we turned the ball over twice and didn't create any for ourselves. This happened against the Colts as well.

Let's see, we win the turnover battle vs. the Chiefs and Panthers, and lose it by 2 against the Colts and Falcons. Turnovers decide if we will win or lose. Leach fumbling that ball deep into our endzone killed us and the momentum we had.

On the flip side, we have to create turnovers, last week I think Hutchins had a chance for an INT in the endzone and we missed a chance at a fumble recovery. Our D needs to hit and go for the ball, the D-line is a big part of forcing fumbles and so far they haven't done that even with our great defense vs. the running game.

Hate to pile on here, but I agree. Both with the playcalling, and the personel. He just does not seem to get it. Some of those red zone plays were just stupid.

Well, the way I see it, and go ahead and call me an apologist if you want . . . but they couldn't run the ball effectively, (which was to be expected) which made them one dimensional.

If you're one dimensional, (which is to be expected, considering the injuries) then the playcalling options are going to be limited. Now, I'm not saying that Kubiak couldn't have been better with the clock management, but all things considered, the offense gets a pass from me, considering again all the injuries. The offense is not the reason we lost.

We lost because we needed the defense to step up and take up the slack, and they didn't do it. No reason at all why Harrington looked like Peyton Manning out there.

fg's wont get it done in this league, it seems like kubiak chose to settle for them instead of playing to win, i dont care about the injuries on offense when we have to win these games against 0-3 teams to make the playoffs, leave it on the field
