The best thing to happen to the University of Texas???

Fiddy

All Pro
Okay, I am a big UT fan but I was rooting for the Sooners to win today just for the reason that I despise the Pac-10. Right now it is 48-10 and I got the thinking: Could this be the best thing for the University of Texas??? Bob Stoops is known for taking talent from the state of Texas, while Mack Brown losses out on the talent (Tommie Harris, Adrian Peterson, etc.) but with seeing what conspried over the last couple days, I think more of the top recruits will commit to the University of Texas. The recurits saw Texas win an exciting game in the Rose Bowl and offensive recruits saw how fun it could be to play with Vince Young. The recurits also saw OU get destroyed in the national championship game against a team that almost everyone picked them to beat. And this for a second straight year. So do yall think that this (UT getting a couple of big recruits this year) may happen or am I just looking through burnt orange glasses???

As you know..I bleed orange. I really feel like most of the recruits have made up their minds already! I know there are a few recruits still deciding (ie. Jermichael Finley, Ryan Perrilloux and Fred Rouse) but the majority have already decided!

If the Horns can beat OU next year, it will really help recruiting. Losing 5 years in a row really hurts!

I don't think the Horns have a problem with getting great players. I think it is more of a problem with how they are developed once we get them! I do see promising things from UT and the Rose Bowl was a great way to start things!

Agreed .. Just like Peterson.. When he was recruited by UT, Ut brought him to a UT-Oklahoma game.. and Oklahoma blasted UT.. well we know how his decision was persuaded. According to the TV ... Oklahoma is losing 8 offensive players and 7 defensive players and the punter this season.. Maybe this will be Macks time to actually gain on Oklahoma and finally win one.

I really don't see it having quite that much influence on the future recruits for a couple reasons. For starters the players for OU at least got a chance to shine in the biggest stage in college football even if they were beaten soundly by USC. UT hasn't given its players the chance to play for a National Title or for that matter a Big 12 Title for the past 5 years or so. I agree that UT still gets great talent, but the days of UT getting the best talent in Texas are over I believe. OU/UT's recruiting battle in Texas is much like Miami/FSU/UF's recruiting battle in Florida every year. My only wish is that Baylor might be able to sneak one or two pretty good recruits away from the likes of UT/A&M/Tech. Hey a guy can dream can't he.

I don't know much about recruits but one thing is for sure. It was alot of fun watching OU get absolutely dominated and see them all standing around not having a clue!

The Horns still have a ways to go in recruiting this year. IF (big if) they can land Fred Rouse (WR) then this vaults them into the top 10 in rankings for sure. There is also still plenty of time for Perilloux to change his mind the other wayas well.

The next couple of weeks are very important for Brown. He must step up and land some more big names. Especially when Nebraska, A&M, Tech, and OK are already having big offseasons.

So time will tell how much of an impact the Rose and Orange really have.

But if anyone can land em... its ole Mack

I dont think it changes anything. The young guns will step up and still bring their A game to the longhorns. Also Peterson was the one who did the damage, and he is still there. I think both teams took a hit. And I think OU will still be a great team next year.

les miles had a meeting with ryan, his mom, and his coach. reports say that he was very impressed and has his last visit to LSU which is good news for us.

Right on! Those stupid Okies gloat about how great they are... well of course they're so great: they're using OUR talent. Thieves. Recruit from your own dang state and leave us alone. (Yeah, I know. Wishful thinking.)

Yeah, I have rooted for them twice in my life. That game and yall should know the other game. Big 12 Conference Championship game against K-State. Sooners need to win for UT to get a BCS bowl, and what do the sooners do??? They get blown out and screw UT.

All part of Stoops' diabolical plan to rule the world!!! Start by losing the Big 12 title game, then go on to lose the Sugar Bowl to LSU, and then get dominated by USC in order to distract the world while you stockpile sharks with lasers on their heads! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

And it begins...

Horns grab commitment from state's top football recruit
Alief tight end Martellus Bennett, No. 1 on the Fab 55, pledges to Texas.

Alief Taylor's Martellus Bennett — the state's top high school football recruit and the top-rated tight end in the nation — has verbally committed to play for the University of Texas, two sources close to the Longhorns' program confirmed Monday.

Bennett, the No. 1 prospect on the Austin American-Statesman's Fabulous 55, informed Texas Coach Mack Brown of his commitment during a phone call after the Longhorns' victory over Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Bennett promised Brown that he would help bring Texas back to Pasadena next season, this time to play in the national championship game, a source said.

Bennett, a 6-foot-7-inch, 237-pound tight end, caught 42 passes for 487 yards and six touchdowns in his senior season. He also registered more than 100 pancake blocks.

He is ranked as the No. 7 overall prospect in the nation — and the No. 1 tight end — by Rivals100.com. College scouts have marveled at Bennett's combination of size, speed and agility.

Bennett picked the Longhorns over Texas A&M — where his older brother, Michael, attends — and the University of Miami. He originally committed to Miami, then de-committed. Bennett could not be reached for comment Monday.

Texas' starting tight end this past season, David Thomas, will be a senior in the fall.

Ryan Perrilloux, the highly touted quarterback from Reserve, La., who also has verbally committed to the Longhorns, said Monday that he is excited about the prospect of playing with Bennett.

Perrilloux and Bennett have been in San Antonio this week, practicing for Saturday's U.S. Army All-American Bowl, a national high school all-star game. They will both play on the West squad Saturday.

One of the juicier rumors floating around recruiting circles is that the nation's top-rated wide receiver — Fred Rouse of Tallahassee, Fla. — will bolt the Sunshine State to join Perrilloux and Bennett at Texas. Rouse, who is considering Florida State and Texas among others, also is in San Antonio for the all-star game. He'll play on the East team, and Perrilloux said he hasn't seen much of the wideout.

"But we're (Perrilloux and Bennett) working on him," Perrilloux said.

Didn't know Alabama was even in the running for Rouse, but it looks like they may be his new favorite today.

East College Recruiting buzz:
East Wide Receiver Fred Rouse, is calling Alabama his new Favorite.

On a side note it looks like I may have gotten my wish fulfilled.

I saw during the game that we recieved a commitment from WR David Gettis (6'3 190) out of Los Angeles, California. I'm not sure why he would chose to go from L.A. to Waco, but I am sure happy to know we'll have a good WR next year. As you can tell I'm not up on the college recruiting, and I was wondering where Gettis ranked among the other Elite WRs. Perhaps someone more familiar with the recruits could give me some info about him.

Thanks for the info wags. The 43rd reciever isn't too bad for Baylor. I think that was the first time I saw a player in the East-West game who had committed to Baylor. Most of the time its the big schools like UT, Tennesse, Miami, etc.

Gettis is a track guy. If you're a 400M runner (I think Gettis is a two-time state champ in Cal) then Baylor is where you want to be. They've become 400M U.

He realizes his future is in track, hence committing to Baylor. If he pans out in football, it's a bonus.

I'm gonna cry, Martellus Bennett chose to be a freakin aggie. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him.

And the Louisana QB is leaning towards LSU now...

this sucks...

this is a huge blow for UT because this probably means that ryan p will hopefully go to LSU. i figured the only school that they were going to go to together was UT and if he went there rp would probably follow. i think UT will lose all of their big three because i think rouse will take bowden's altimatum and sign with FSU tomorrow, maybe i'm wrong. tought day for UT recruiting, but wednesday could be worse.

i just heard a rumor that rp sent a text message to mb right before his commitment trying to get him to go to LSU. the guy from rivals is the one who is saying this. of course this is just a rumor, but doesn't look very good if true.

:howdy: These guys are getting a lot of hype before they take one step on the field . You could say their raising their platforms and I hope they don't fall. It could be embarrasing .

All you need is Brett Farve's 2nd cousin twice removed, and you'd have something big brewing down in College Station.

This has got to suck for UT...They didn't get any of their big 3...Rouse signed an LOI with FSU earlier today...

So my prediction was kind of right. The TOP-tier recruits didnt go to OU. (That was the part I got right) The bad part is they went to A&M... :(

That's okay:
Vince Young - 2
Reggie McNeal - 0

It was a bit of a surprise that Nebraska had the best recruiting class this year. I guess Callahan is a better salesman than I thought.

Ya but Reggie has beat OU, which was in his freshman year(I got to go to that game) so that has to be worth some type of point.

he gets a point for the OU game,, BUT........supreme court is still trying to figure out a verdict on the Baylor debacle..

D giveth (baylor) the D taketh away (OU)...

back to subject.. I will give Mack props (finally) if he keeps this Texas team in th e BCS hunt with his recruiting class.. Why? because of all the years of Texas with their top 5 recruiting ranking.. we had nothing to show for it .. now Roy williams, Mike Williams, Jammer, redding, simms, etc etc gone,,and his recriting isn't as good as years past,(yes only one year) I want to see if Mack can flat out coach CONSISTANTLY . (yes I am hard on MB)
