Fans at Colts Game..

I have to give it up to my fellow Texans fans. We rocked Reliant. It was the loudest I have heard it in a very long time especially near the end when we were on defense. We showed what great fans we are and I loved it!Thoughts?
 
I was only watching on TV, but I could still tell that the place was rockin. When Mathis had his TD they showed the crowd and everyone, and I mean every single person in the frame, was out of their seats and jumping all over each other. It looked like a crazy college game.
 
alot of empty seats at kickoff though, i brought a cowboy season ticket holder to the game and he was impressed with the stadium, yet surprised at the number of empty seats for such an important game
 
Watching it at home it sounded loud as hell after Mathis returned the kickoff for a TD.

Unfortunately, Manning has the uncanny ability to silence a crowd. Constant 3rd down conversions tend to quiet the crowd.
 
I have asked/suggested/written/emailed you name it, but the Texans marketing dept needs a 30 minute before kick off siren to go off in the parking lot...heck, they need to do a series of sirens, 1 hour, 45 minutes and then 1/2 hour.

I was being very cognizant of the time and boom, it was 11:15 before we started wrapping up the pre game tailgate. We shut it down quickly and made it to our seats about 11:50.

It may help, heck, it can't hurt.
 
I sit one row in front of Bud Adams' corporate seats. 7th row. Sometimes his company gives the tickets to Texans fans and sometimes not. Sometimes corporate people don't really care much because they tickets were give aways.

Third quarter.

Colts are 3 and 1. Trying to score. It is loud.

Right before the play, the guy behind me wearing a Tommy Bahamaesque outfit asks that I sit down so he can watch the game.

I tell him it is a FOOTBALL game. It's third and 1 and our team is on defense. If you can't stand up then, when can you stand up.

He left in the third quarter. We didn't miss him as his effect on crowd noise was similar to a potted plant. Actually, I have no idea who he was rooting for or if he had a rooting interest at all.

If you want to sit down the whole game, go to the club level or watch at home from your couch.

It was about 90% more crowded than it was for the Chief's kickoff, though.
 
I was definitely dissapointed with the attendance at kickoff. We made a point to shut it down at eleven and get in our seats. I'll bet it didn't even take 15 minutes to get sat, and when we got there I was shocked at how empty the seats were. I figured it would be hell getting in. It did seem like the upper and lower sections were pretty filled. What's up with that middle $ection? :bat:

I wasn't going to say anything but since this thread was started, I'm going to speak my mind on this subject. Frankly, we did a poor job of supporting our defense. I'm very disappointed in the fans and have two bones to pick on this subject.

First, this may sound crazy but at the beginning of the third quarter when the Colts received the kickoff, the stands were still very empty. Before you knew it, the Colts drove the length of the field with barely a whimper from the fans. I was very disappointed.

This is a young defense that feeds on excitement. As fans, we needed to be there for them and we weren't. Bottom line is get your food/drinks and get you butts back in your seats and get ready to support your team.

Second, it’s great that people get loud just before the snap, but we need to get loud and stay loud while the defense is on the field. Particularly, when the opponents are using no huddle offense to catch us off guard and wear down our defense.

If you watched the Colts closely when they were utilizing no huddle, the offense would mull around the line of scrimmage while Manning barked out orders. The Colts would line up at the line of scrimmage and then the fans would start to get loud. By now it’s too late. Damage has been done. We needed to be loud the entire time to disrupt the play calling at the line of scrimmage. Force the Colts to go into a huddle. Give our defense time to catch its breath and make substitutions.

Bottom line is as fans who want to affect the outcome of the game, we failed.

I'm not bad mouthing the folks in the club seats as they are fans too. Just because their seats are more expensive that doesn't make them any less passionate...however, they do need to pry themselves away from the bars, sofas, and buffet tables and get their rear ends to their seats for kickoff.

Unfortunately, this is true. Meco was out there SEVERAL times waving his arms like crazy, and our fans still did NOT respond like they should have. It's just unfortunate that we have so many football illiterate fans that attend the games. Some of that is because Houston is such a large marketing area. Also because we have so many corporate owned seats, people who sell their tickets for profit on stubhub or e-bay, and don't give a rats flying butt who they sell too. Right now, I'm not sure we will EVER have a fan base like Green Bay, Oakland, Pittsburg, or even the Eagles. Just to many flakey people out there who go to the games to sit on their a**es!!!!! JMO

I had a lady two rows behind me, yell at me to sit down. First time that has ever happened. It was also the first time I played preacher and tried to channel the strength to allow her to use her legs and stand as others were doing. She did not seem to like it, but it got some laughs around us. Not sure if she was a Colts fan or an idiota so I gave the her the benefit of the doubt that she was an idiota.

yeah, we've got a long way to go if we want an elite homefield advantage.

The one gripe I have, beyond the inconsistent support for the D, is for fans to have an once of common sense and shut the heck up when our offense is on the field. In spite of the BIG SCREEN telling everyone to be quiet, and in spite of our players waving for people to be quiet, we still have quite a few football noobs that don't understand the very simple concept of yelling for defense, quiet for offense. This isn't baseball where you yell just because something exciting is finally happening.

A lot of those noobs were in the BullPen and were wearing PALE blue and white! No kidding!! they made a hell of a lot of noise.
 
Well, I screamed my lungs out! I was standing at least half of the game, I was in 139 and most everyone around me was doing the same.

When the called back the initial kick off for offsides, I looked at my buddy next to me and said "they shouldn't have given Mathis another chance, he is going to run this one back"......and the rest is history, it was pure pandemonium in that place when he broke free!

I've never understood this. I watched the game from home this last weekend but the stadium doesn't seem to fill up until most of the first quarter is gone. Every single game. Then there is the halftime refreshments exodus that lasts well into the third quarter. Personally I'd feel like I pay hundreds if not thousands for my seats to watch the game and "be a fan"--not mill about the hallways drinking $9.00 beers.

I personally was a little slow coming back to my seat, not because I was milling around, but because the concession lines were so damned slow. (Yeah, too much talking at the tailgate, not enough eting).

The noise level from the fans on that critical 4th down play was just embarrassing. It's not like we Houstonians are brand-new to football. But we look like the most idiotic fans on the planet every single home game. The end zone opposite the bull pen is the worst. I feel sorry for the Texans players every time they try to score a touchdown in that red zone.

I understand the concession lines are slow as are the waits for the bathroom, and if you gotta go, you gotta go. So maybe it's part an issue with the concession lines and not the fans, but seems every time I do go to the game, there are a lot of folks standing around in the halls drinking a beer in silence and watching the game on the 27" screens. To each his or her own, but JMO that those folks are really missing out on the "fan" experience.

I'm certainly not the ultimate fan--I don't show at 8, I don't wear face paint and I'm not the giddiest, most loudest guy in the stands--so maybe it's not my place to pontificate, but I mean, c'mon! If you're going to waste the money and the gas and the time and then watch it on a TV screen, you might as well stay at home where the beer is cheap and you're sharing seats with fat relatives instead of fat strangers!

Any of you ever have writer’s remorse on this board. Well, I got it right now. Every once in a while I write a post that I probably shouldn't have or that I later regret. I guess as a rule of thumb, when I start a post with “I wasn't going to say anything but”, maybe I should just keep my thoughts to myself. Anyway sorry for blowing off steam on the board.

As far as what we can do about it, I do have a few ideas, which may or may not work. First, being an Aggie, I am a huge fan of Yell Leaders. Yell leaders don’t necessarily have to be a traditional Yell Leader similar to what the Aggies employ. According to my cousin, in New York one man stands up to get the J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets chant going. He said it’s really weird, the whole place will be rocking and then all of the sudden it’ll get super quiet and then it starts. Don’t take this as wanting to get rid of our cheerleaders. Think of it as more of a supplement.

I have a few more ideas but lunch time is over and I have to get back to work. :)
 
I know we've voiced this gripe elsewhere and that it's off topic, but does the food at Reliant still suck this year?

To me, there is just something about getting a foot-long chili dog at a pro sports event. Call it tradition, nostalgia, gluttony, an evening spent in intestinal regret, whatever--I love, love love getting a foot-long chili dog at a ballgame. The Astros don't serve the best but they're not bad.

It's really hard to mess one of these up. Canned chili, boiled dog, bun. It's even hard to overheat/burn/scald the ingredients. Yet year after year, this has been an exercise in futility for me at Reliant.

What are your thoughts on the food this year? We can start/revisit a different thread.

What seems to work the best in my section (632) is that I start yelling and clapping as soon as the whistle blows. People seem to respond when someone else starts the noise. So the sooner the noise starts, the sooner they join in. By the time the opposing offense lines up, you've got as much noise as you're going to get.

Which reminds me, the Colts game each year is the worst for me. It takes Peyton so long to get through his little one-man improv show at the line of scrimmage that I'm already completely hoarse and my arms are killing me by the end of our first defensive series.

That happened to me and my brother at an Astros playoff game in the dome. The whole section if not the whole stadium was up cheering, the old couple in the back tapped my brother on the shoulder and asked us to sit down, we ignored them. Cheered louder.

Anyway I noticed the crowd at the start of the 1st and 3rd QTRs. I don't know what the problem was/is, But we need to find a way to get in the seats for the start of each half.

They need to have a promotion for people who show up at 11:30, gets a free Ima Texan shirt for big games. Something.

I remember once during the 7-9 season when I asked a group in our section to be quiet for our offense. They started yelling back "you be quiet!".

Fortunately, some fans around them politely pointed out the BIG SCREEN that said "Quiet, offense at work". I just flashed them the loser sign after that. :loser
 
I have to say that this game was awesome from the fans stand point... was a great game! the fans were loud as hell! Showed some great support - I hope they keep it up for every game!

I disagree. I even got some people in the club level(were I was sitting) to stand up multiple times by waving my arms to stand up and yelling and at one point on the Colts last drive I think it was the loudest I have heard it at a football game in a very long time. Overall the Texans have too many business men fans but they also have great fans and it shows.

LOL! I know, man! That whole game was terrible, especially the last 2 minutes! A minute per snap is a very long time to be yelling. I was dead tired after each play. But I still trekked on.

Yeah, you can see the Texans fans, but the empty seats of the business men is very noticeable.

I was talking about when the Texans were on offense, not defense.

When the crowd gets into a game, they don't know when to stop making noise.

For the most part, I was surprised at how well the crowd brought the noise level down while we were on offense. After everything I'd heard on here, I had expected it to be the same loudness whether we were on offense or defense... and it wasn't at all.
 
What's up guys and gals!

Not a bandwagoner here, but a day 1 PSL holder in the "idiotic" other endzone!

As far as the fans getting their butts in their seats earlier at kickoff and halftime, I think we will see an improvement as the team keeps showing us their grit and determination to win. Fans will want to get there sooner so that they don't miss anything rather than hanging in the concourse, IMO.

Keep up the great posts and I look forward to talking football with the GREAT Texan Nation!

Pretty hard to do when halftime is only 12:00 and the restroom line is overflowing because thousands of people go at halftime, the refreshment line is overflowing because thousands of people go at halftime........

Now that I've had time for my ears to finally stop ringing and my voice to fully return, I'm thinking this may have been the loudest it's ever been. I think there were a couple of times the stands were actually shaking.

To me, 19-10 and the Titans game in '03 when #42 planted his foot in the endzone on 4th down with 24 seconds left to give the inbreds the win, were the loudest before last Sunday.
 
Hey did anybody else go the the INDY game last weekend?? If you did, does anybody know what the song was during the kickoffs? Usually I know they play "Thunderstruck" by ACDC or they play "Zombie Nation", but I think this was a different one...more of a mellow tune. Any ideas?????

I've had season tickets for 3 of the 6 seasons, and this Sunday's game was the loudest and liveliest I've been to. When the Colts got the ball back with 2:49 left to play, the noise was Insane! There was a small delay, Ryans & Greenwood were jumping around and everyon is the stadium was going nuts.

It was definately the loudest I have been to. Next up for me is the Texans/Titans game Oct. 21st. Yellow lot look out. Its party time!

They also played "TNT" by AC/DC a couple of times. First time I had heard it played at the games.

Same thing happened to us...woman tells us to sit down. PLEASE. So, we basically stood the entire game, screaming...
