Once again proving that we have always had an offensive line...errr, I mean once again proving the Germans love David Hasselcarr.
I think the 2004 line was just as, if not more, talented than the current one.
The Texans should have made it a twofer and cut Carr and Pendry after 2004 cratered at the end. I guess the whole coaching staff had to go though. It would have shortened the (re) building process by a year.
Too many "good enough" players were sacrificed to cover Carr's butt.
Wade was a much better player than Riley when comparing where they were in their careers when they joined the Texans. Wade was a good player and peaking physically; Riley probably should have retired.

Wade was never really all that bad. He just made a bunch of dumb plays, much like McKinney is now, except Wade was worse at pass blocking than Winston his rookie year.
Wade's play steadily declined during his tenure here. He was pretty good when he started, and he looked worse and worse as time went on.

I think there's must be something we don't know about that might've happened behind the scenes. I remember Wade and Sherman having discussions after practice more than one occasion. I now wonder whether they were actually confrontations. Maybe Wade wasn't fitting in with what Sherm wanted, who knows?
This is only speculation, but it makes one wonder why they those people like Weigert over Wade.
Either way, it appears the Oline has suddenly improved for the time being. I would assume the LT and C positions will be shored up eventually.

The best thing to happen to the line was Mike Sherman. And I think him now having control of not just the line, but as OC having control of the line and its cohesion with the offense, is making an even bigger impact. Unlike last year, he also now has a running back who knows how to use the system. All this makes for a very good line-up.
Kudos to Wade. I think he was and is a terrific lineman (misused under the last regime) who will continue to excel.

So very true. I pointed out over and over again how Todd Wade had been a perfectly respectable free agent signing and done a good job in Miami on some very good teams. Then he came here and learned how to be bad....WTF?
Weigert also seemed to decline while he was here (though I can't say for certain if that was due to his age or the coaching). Steve McKinney had been an adequat G in Indy but looked (and still looks at times) very ordinary.
Think of guys like Milford Brown and Seth Wand and then wonder what their careers might have looked like if they'd been taken in later rounds (where they should have been) by teams that were really capable of long-term player development.

Wade is exactly where he should be...a back up Tackle. He wasn't worth the money we signed him for. If he had a smaller contract he likely would never have been waived. He plays stiff and too upright most of the time and isn't a quality starter...he's more like McKinney....good enough to play, but you are always looking to replace him.

My sentiments exactly. I saw too many guys abuse Wade on plays that weren't assignment mix-ups or scheme issues.
He's good enough to start without being a disaster. His $10M bonus was too much here. I'm trying to remember the timing. Did Wade sign the year Pendry joined the team? If so, he was definitely the wrong right tackle for a team that was trying to convert to zone blocking with athletic lineman. He did all right in Miami; he probably would have been decent his whole career in an offense more compatible with his straight ahead style.
I still can't believe they have him as back-up guard at 6'8". Those DTs must like to get under his pads, so to speak.

I like our current RT - Eric Winston. The ex-rook has been holding up his end. Wade never did that. Wade might as well been a doorman - open the door for the DL and get out of the way.
