OK, I have been a lurker for awhile, and have had season tickets since day one. Anyway, I have enjoyed reading all the threads.

The pre-season line for the Texans to win the superbowl was +50,000.

Today it is +650

Chargers are +600

Colts are +500

Patriots are +200

Cowboys are +1400 :rofl:
Titans are +5000 :yahoo:



I can't believe that the Texans have the 4th best odds to WIN the superbowl per the bookies!

Talk about some national respect. The wise guys know what is going on!

Questionable. But yeah, those guys are in it to win it...I suspect those numbers will continue to go all over the place in the next few weeks!
 
That's pretty interesting.

Let's say we do win our division or earn a wild card spot.

I think we would be facing teams like the Colts, Patriots, Steelers, Chargers, Broncos? just guesses anyway.

we play the colts twice and the chargers and broncos once each this year, so that will give us a good indication of how we match up against them. esp. if we face them in the playoffs.


To me it's not as simple as we beat team X, team X beat team y, therefore we should beat team y.

It's all about matchups. And if we do make it to the playoffs...we have to play some pretty solid teams obviously. The funny thing is we may actually match up better against them than others. Maybe we won't though. Anything can happen when you get to the playoffs...it's all about matchups, avoiding injuries, and surviving!
 
If we win our division, we'll most likely have a week one bye. I have us pegged at 11-5. If that wins the division (we split with the Colts and either win the tiebreak or they finish 10-6), we'll most likely have more wins than the AFC West or AFC North winner.

Every year, I go to Vegas and wager that the Texans will win the SB. I do it for the oods moreso than for what the team has shown. The reason I go for SB, as opposed to just making the playoffs, is similar to your reasoning. If we're good enough to make the playoffs in the AFC, in the same division as the Colts, we'll probably make some noise. And it's a dumb bet anyway, so why not go the full nines?

Don't believe it, because I looked around and the Texans are +5000 to +6000. The number you gave was either a misprint or a joke. If you have an extra $20, Vegas will give a Texans Super Bowl win ticket for a grand or more.

UNBELIEVABLE! This is the biggest indicator of how far the Texans have come. I believe this team is talented and will have many chances over the next 10 years to win the Superbowl.............but.........will this site allow people to lay 650 to 100? Not saying that I am not a believer in their talent...but just saying....

Technically, bookies don't really predict anything. The line is a trailing indicator. They move where the bets are. For the bookie the idea is to move the spread according to where the bets are going so the house wins either way with the cost of the bet always going to them.

This is the wisdom of crowds in action. If the odds of Houston winning the Superbowl goes up it means that a lot more people are making that bet. Of course, when the odds are 50,000 to 1, it doesn't take too many people taking that bet before the odds change.

yeah, this isn't the bookies making a prediction, they're just going where the money is. this speaks more to how the national perspective of the Texans is improving.
