I'm Pumped!!!!!

I just started rooting for the TEXANS (am a former Jet fan who jumped ship). I've got my Demeco Ryans jersey, Texans shorts and a full array of snacks and beverages to settle in tomorrow and watch the Texans kick some Panther butt. I'm really excited. As a new fan what should I be looking for (other than a win)? I know the defense is young and awesome. What else should I know?

Things to look for...

Jerome Mathis on Kick-Off Returns
Jacoby Jones on Punt Returns
How quickly Matt Schaub gets rid of the football
How Andre Johnson tramples through the secondary
Mario gets at least 1 sack. My prediction, 1.5

Are you a Texans fan in New Jersey?

Actually I am a brand new Texans fan in Upstate New York (located in Bills Country). Have been a Jets fan for 30 years and finally had enough of that sick organization. I decided to become a Texans fan because they are an up and coming, exciting team and no one up hear roots for them. I ordered my Demeco Ryans jersey on Monday and it arrived Thursday. I'm excited! Looking forward to rooting for them tomorrow and forever!!!!!

Look for Dunta Robinson to put somebody bigger than him flat on their back.

Hope that Salaam and Ahman Green stay healthy.

Welcome aboard!

Owen Daniels could be a great TE in the making.

All offseason people have been saying that Andre Johnson is our only receiving threat and we have no #2 receiver. Look for Jacoby Jones and Kevin Walters to see if one of them can step up.

Our weaknesses at the moment are:
1. Safety where we've had a lot of injuries
2. Our #2 CB, Faggins, is a good nickel but we've got questions about him at #2. We've got a young kid, Bennet, that we're hoping is starting by the end of the season.
3. Our OL. Everyone loves to hate our offensive line. So keep an eye on how good or bad they play.
4. Our DL. Our defensive coordinator doesn't want to blitz. He wants our D-line to get pressure just rushing 4. Mario will bounce around from side to side; he's not a speed guy, he's a strength guy. Amobi is playing his second game and we're not sure how good he's going to be at holding the point. He's still SOOOOO young. Anthony Weaver has been injured and missed pre-season, he didn't do much in the Chiefs game.
5. Ahman Green. Is he washed up or does he have something left in the tank?

Welcome. Be prepared to despise the Tacks and Cowboys if you stick around.

Welcome! I think maybe you have joined just in time. This might be the right time to be a Texan fan. I've been a fan since the NFL granted Houston a franchise in 1999. We have been through some low times but that will make the next few years that much special.

Thanks for the welcomes and well wishes. I'm really excited about this team, especially their young and aggresive defense. I already despise the "glittery" Cowboys.....who are the Tacks?

The Titans because they have a "Tack" in their logo. Not really but it looks like one.

I'd say it's because they're the tacky team of the NFL.:pirate:

Welcome new Texan fan! Always glad to have another one. Get on these boards and talk some football! The guys here are pretty amazing at time.

The Titans are also known as the "meatballs!"

Not much LOVE in the hearts of most TEXAN fans for Dallas or Tenn. Welcome to the board!!

I don't think that's completely true, lol.
Yes it is. There is no room for VY worship as a true Texans fan. He plays for Bud. That makes him guilty by association. No self-respecting Houston fan would ever root for the Cowgirls either. Call us Titan and Cowboy bigots if you want. We wear the moniker proudly.

Your English is MUCH better than a couple of others that have joined this board recently, and they're from the US!

Out of curiosity, what got you interested in the NFL?

Anything in particular you're looking to know about your Texans? We'll be glad to answer any questions you have.

I actually started to watch NFL back in 1999, when i saw Super Bowl XXXIII ( Broncos-Falcons). It was just something very special for me with this game, i can't really explaint it. Maybe it's all the tactical work in the game.

My love for Houston came later when the Team joined NFL. I didn't jumped on the bandwagon, but they have always have a special place in my football hart.(Maybe it was the cool helmets they have).
First recently i really started to find this team more excited than anything else. Maybe it was because of the Matt Schaub deal.

I would love to know more about the scheme's on both sides of the ball. Second thing i would know is about our coaching staff, how are they really, and what is there favorit touches to do on offence and defence. Ofcause i know Kubiak, and Sherman, but the rest of the pack?!

(Hope you guys understand a little bit of this:) and thanks for the nice welcome)

I understood what you said. Your English is better than Titans' English. :)

You can't jump on a bandwaggon that doesn't exist yet. :gun:

Then if that is what it takes to be a true Texan fan... then the hell with the Tacks and VY. He's just another Michael Vick without the dog crimes.

I understand you a whole lot more than I do some other new posters on the board. First off, I'm glad that you see all the tactics that go into running a successful play on both sides of the ball in football.

You, along with most of us here, were correct to be encouraged by trading for Schaub. With Schaub, Kubiak can run the West Coast Offense versus the garbage offense we had to run with Carr. Schaub is tailor-made to run the WCO. Look for AJ and JJ to become a great 1-2 receiving corps with Owen Daniels a threat in the middle. Ahman Green is an established veteran who is a one-cut and go RB, pretty much what Kubiak wants in a RB.

Defensively we're still growing as a team. We moved from the 3-4 to the 4-3 just a year ago but we're still jelling as a defensive unit and last week's effort was encouraging. Our opponents are going to be in big trouble in the near future as this defense grows together. We will be a huge force.

I also think our helmet's kick arse! :fans:

Thanks a lot. I appreciate. I seems that jacoby Jones could be great #2 wr for us. Well time would tell, but my first impression of him is just good. He has worked well in TC and pre season, hopefully he also can do it through the season.

It's great that the Texans are getting more fans all the time. I've been cheering for the Texans since Day 1:texflag:
Since there really isn't a "home team" up here, some of my friends jump on the bandwagon of whichever team is hot at the moment.
That's exactly why I enjoyed cheering for an expansion team. Sure we had some tough times the first couple of years; but nobody can ever accuse us of jumping on the bandwagon.
That's what makes the current success so sweet:wild:
Some day I'll see a game at Reliant Stadium. Looking forward to that:fans:

Welcome to y'all. Pencil Neck and Bandwagon summed it up pretty well. Maybe you already know this stuff, but on offence, it's pretty similar to Denver's if you've watched them. Kubiak wants to establish the run first, with a lot of play-action fakes to set up the pass. They were using a zone blocking scheme starting in 2004 (I think?), but went to more power blocking last year due to Sherman's influence. On defense, they do a lot of stunting, but not blitzing. They played man coverage last week to focus on stopping Larry Johnson, but they usually play with the FS deep.
