Anyone Else Notice This??

In every game I watched on TV yesterday, the QB's of each team had a round green dot on the back of their helmets. No other players have this, anyone know why?

This has been covered several times. The green dot indicates the one (1) person on the field who has radio communication with the sidelines.

I noticed that in the preseason and it was driving me crazy trying to figure out. Then my buddy and I came to the conclusion that they are marked to denote which helmets have the speakers in them. That way the league knows nobody is listening in that shouldn't be. Our guess of course.

I must have been absent when this was covered in MB class :) I was thinking it was so the DE would know which guy to drill in the back :)

It also helps the QB to quickly find his helmet in a group. The one with the green dot is his(since he needs to be able to hear whats happening on the sidelines).

Also, only 1 helmet with a green dot is allowed on the field at a time. If you have a situation with 2 QB's on the field, one of them has to have a second, non-speakered helmet.

Also, I believe that NO green dot helmets are allowed on the field during a field goal attempt.

Because no team would ever dream of putting a second player on the field with a comm system helmet that wasn't clearly identified.

The green dots seem silly to me. If a team wants to cheat, they will. If the green dots were supposed to curtail that .... well, I'm not seeing it. Maybe I'm just missing the point.
