Big Shock - Keye Not Showing Texans In Week 2 Either!!!!!!!!!!

DiehardChris

You betcha!
AND YES I'M USING CAPS BECAUSE I'M *******ING PISSED OFF!!!!!!!!!

www.keyetv.com/programming

So much for Keye promising Texan fans to "start 2007 with the Texans and see how it goes".

So much for KEYE promising Texan fans a "balance between the Titans and Texans games."

I would never wish that on anyone - especially not someone I like - Vince Young - but that's kind of what I'm going to have to start doing I guess.

At this point it wouldn't surprise me if KEYE televised people eating live kittens. SO SO ANGRY!!!!!

There are tons of threads about it in this section of the boards.

Short version - Austinites are hung up on Vince Young and can't get over that he isn't here anymore, so they insist that KEYE televises Tennessee Titans games instead of Houston Texans games.... even though they promised to 1 - start the season showing Texans games and 2 - 'balance' the schedule between Texans and Titans games.

...and Austinite Texan fans are pissed.

If Vince Young gets hurt and is out for the season, what will they do?

I've heard that the plan is to hook up a Vince cam on a remotely piloted vehicle. The RPV will follow him around and broadcast his every move on the internet 24/7. It will be simulcast on KEYE from 12-3 every other Sunday so that Longhorn fans will have something to watch as they recover from their hangovers. On alternate Sundays, KEYE will show 2006 Rose Bowl replays in that time slot until Vince recovers from the injury.

That SUCKS!...........I'm in the Austin Area too (Leander) and ended up having to purchase the NFL Sunday Ticket. I started this last season, it looks like I will have to continue till VY retires! The way K-eye is, the Texans could be headed for the playoffs and they would still be airing Tacks games.

Of course its strictly a business decision, so who can blame the TV station over there for making the bottom-line the top priority ? I don't think we're talking about a public-TV station here are we ?
If you've seen the ratings data you know the audiences at the lower range of Titans telecasts in Austin last year pretty much exceeded any of the Texans games that were telecast in that market in 2006.
I dunno if this is more of a statement of VYs enduring popularity in Austin or
just the total apathy they apparently have for the Texans ?

Honestly, while I am peeved also, this is just as much the fault of the Texans than anyone else. They stuck with Carr too long and made themselves look like morons during the 2006 draft (of course the jury is still out on that one). As big of a Texans fan as I am even I had a hard time watching them last year. Watching Carr was like listening to someone run their fingers down a chalk board and I couldn't take it anymore. Of course this is all last year and that is what KEYE is going on. The real shame is the Texans have gotten rid of Carr and are finally starting to look like a real team. Many of us fans that held on finally have something to be excited about and now they have pulled the plug.

As someone mentioned this is about business and when the Texans become better business than the Titans this problem will remedy itself. We can all pull for the sophmore and Madden jinxes to kick in and the Texans to take care of business. In the meantime it's not a bad idea to have NFL Sunday Ticket or plan on hitting a good sports bar every weekend. I saw this coming and traded my season tickets for the NFL Sunday Ticket this offseason which now looks like a smart decision considering I could only drive down to Houston a few times a season coupled with all of this.

I just wish we lived in our own little ideal world...

KEYE: "KEYE, can I help you?"

"Yes, this is Mr. McNair. We just wanted to let you know, we're pulling your Texan coverage rights forever. We'll be broadcasting the Houston coverage of the game on channel 500. We're also pulling all sponsoships. I hope you live to regret your decisions when the Texans win and people forget who Vince Young is."

I mean, I could understand if they were showing the Cowboys, but the fact they're showing the Titans is a joke in my book.

I wish Vince Young wasn't on the Madden cover this year. I don't want to hear that lame excuse used to rationalize his poor performance this year. If he sucks it up this year, then I want people to except the fact that he, his coaches, and his teammates are responsible for their poor performance not some purported curse. If Mario has a breakout year as well, I want all of those people that :crying:, to man up and admit they were wrong for demeaning the Texans over their draft.

This sucks, but I guess I am getting used to it. I will shell out whatever I have to to watch my team. So what if the Titans get blown out and the Texans win week one.....will they not change their mind? :gun:

They cant'. They must decide the game they will show 12 days in advance, and stick with it.

I believe your hypothetical phone conversation is not possible.

It appears this situation is directly out of the hands of the Texans organization and the station.

An NFL team cannot dictate coverage outside a certain area (designated as their home) and a local TV station is probably told what to air when they don't have a home team to cover.

Lower ratings mean less money. I work in the TV syndication business, I see the Nielsen ratings, I process advertiser rebates, and I hear all the talk about ratings and the issues.

Now, I am not an expert on the TV business and I don't know the specifics of the contract between the NFL and National networks.

Having said that though, I can't imagine them running a show that will make them less money. Which is what you guys are suggesting!

The Networks get paid off the Nielsen ratings. Complain all you want about the ratings, how they are done, but that is the agreed upon method for advertisers to pay for TV spots. Spots in my business are paid in advance and settled many months later.

If you have lower ratings, you have to either pay them money back or do make good contracts. Which means you have accountants and Nielsen ratings analyst people making decisions that have no idea of the local issues regarding a broadcast. Their job is to make money!

So, if there are lower ratings, that means less money, which means less money for the NFL, which means less money for the players the way the CBA works with revenue sharing.

As you can see, it's less money for Texans players and the organization if the ratings aren't that good in Austin and there is a better alternative.

If the ratings are there, the Texans will be shown in Austin. It's really that simple!

To help the situation, the Texans should:

A. Market the Texans in Austin (which does not include having Toro and few cheerleader hanging out at some kid's birthday party, I am taking about spending some real money with a real ad campaign)

B. Win meaningful football games and push for the playoffs

I really think you guys complaining to the station is pointless. They are a business and I suspect the coverage is dictated to them anyway from a National level.

I'd make a business decision and go with the NFL Ticket on DirecTV.

Just sucks because it's probably pretty pricey.

You didn't explain what your ideal world meant.

I took at as McNair having the cajones and sticking up for the Texans fans living in Austin.

I get it, you meant it more in a general perspective.

Fair enough. I saw what I wanted to see.

But, an important component to this situation is that the Texans organization doesn't really care about Austin as a market for Texan fans. I won't go into here again, I posted my reasoning and facts previously.

Last year, KEYE did actually show Texans games AFTER they already knew the ratings were better for Titans games. Two times, if memory serves, and from what the program director says, it is actually up to the station to air what they want.

But anyway - if the Texans start to win, this will all be moot, because all the crying, whiny VY worshippers in this town will start begging to get on the bandwagon. (I love VY but the Texans come first).

I just think KEYE is making a mistake in assuming that an opening ROAD game by the Titans would be a huge ratings victory over a HOME opener in Houston, when the fans know that the Texans have made so many significant improvements to the team. I think it's a game that could take some wagon jumpers, and 'on the bubble' fans - and put them on the side of the Texans... because there's a decent chance the Texans will win.

Instead - we're going to miss the first two games - and the first game that WILL be televised in Austin is against.... The Colts! A game we'll most likely lose. So then stupid VY ball-kissing worshippers will say 'same old Texans'.

So I think we're being set up to fail with the way KEYE is handling the situation. (Not in a conspiratorial way, but just the way it's working out.)

I will say it is very much a conspiracy. If and when I ever get my hands on the ratings for all games televised in Austin for KEYE and for KTPC (fox) for the 2006 season I will be able to prove it. Call me crazy or what ever you want but I believe that Gary Vinson has an agenda with regards to the games being shown.

The good news is The Titans have a Mon night game week 3 and a bye in week 4, so we will see what kind of CRAP keye pulls those weeks.
Is 2 Titans game and 2 Texans game fair will these 4 games determine which way the winds blow ?
Stay tune for another episode of As The Vince Turns!

Some of you Austinites that have expressed anger, should reply to the column posted by TEXANS84... Because at the end it said viewers have spoken - but I haven't seen y'alls words...

I say we need to get the Texans to pull the eye out of KEYE. Do not let them show or profit from the Texans in any way.

I just posted this on the article:

First, if Mr. Vinson of KEYE were honest about what the fans have stated, he would admit that he has been besieged with emails from rabid Texans fans in the Austin area voicing their outrage. Of course Mr. Vinson won’t admit that, citing ridiculous ratings results. Pretty pathetic!!! An embarrassment to Texans everywhere.

Keep it simple. Bump threads. Act NICE like SA did. Invite these guys out to parties. I said this at least 10 days ago to use honey to attract the flies. Your method hasn't worked yet. Perhaps a lane change is in order.

Sugar may work in SA, but when you are talking about "his highnesses" back yard, piss and vinegar has to work...

*EDIT... I do agree about the numerous threads, though**

Just posted this (to stir the pot):
Some of y’alls weak arguments for Vince have convinced me to become Giants fan… What? With Michael Strahan graduating from my High School and all.. Wait maybe I should become a Colts fan, Joseph Adai graduated from a high school in the same district…

Please… Take Vince’s jock strap off and quit wearing it as an eye patch and support an in state team. Not the team owned by that scum-bag Bud Adams, because of one player.

So how many of you Austin VY fans will be watching the Titans when VY is gone? Answer - none. Eventually you're going to turn off the NFL or come crawling back. And frankly, we don't want you back. Because either way, you're not a Texans' fan. And we'll be happy to roll the bandwaggon in front of a train when the Texans start winning.

My $.02

And, (in reality) a permanent ban in Austin would hurt the Texans' fan base. Because eventually children will have been raised watching/going to Texans games, and we'll be a winning franchise. You can only gain fans by expanding your audience.

Which is the reason I call this the Department of Redundancy Department. How many threads need there be to say that KEYE is hosing Austin? We've known this for 2 years...maybe more.

Keep it simple. Bump threads. Act NICE like SA did. Invite these guys out to parties. I said this at least 10 days ago to use honey to attract the flies. Your method hasn't worked yet. Perhaps a lane change is in order.

I tried that last year and what it got was gary Vinson promising to start the season with the Texans only to go back on his word, so I guess being nice means nothing to him. now last year SA got mostly Colts games, if I remember correctly and since they are playing on thursday they can't be seen on sunday so I do not see that being nice has had anything to do with it.

What parties did the program director in SA attend or get invited to? Please tell me all the things that were done in SA that the PD went to. What Texan watch parties or rallys or draft gathering were done and attended by those at your CBS affiliate?

i live in leander and was pissed when they switched to titans coverage last year. same feeling when i saw the titans were set to air this weekend. vy is god to all these half ass longhorn fans in austin. i saw the writing on the wall last year and bought 2 season tickets to this season. me and whoever is willing to drive. didn't take long to find people willing to drive, however everyone wanted to go the titan game. me and a jets fan are going to that one. the same jets fan who has the nfl ticket and two tv's in his living room. i'll see my texans every week but feel bad for those who can't. all i can say is find a bar or switch to the dish. i don't think we'll win this battle here in austin unless the titans suck ( i think they will this year) and the texans get into the playoff hunt. don't forget to wear white.

I seem to remember ALOT of us mad as hell when the Texans weren't being televised, me included, and you Elle...I remember we sent quite a few angry emails to the media expressing exactly what we thought of them, and there were a few SA threads about it...I feel for you Austin ppl and i would be angry also...In fact, i'm ready to start sending out more of those emails i sent last year....And being nice NEVER helped us, nothing was resolved, and the games still were not shown....It will be the same this year, unless the Texans start winning, that may be the only change...Good luck to you guys....

I feel for you guys. Dress up in Teetons rip away clothing (underneeth wear texans gear) and go out in the public where they have a reporter and act all crazy for the Teetons till they want to interview you, rip off the trash and expose the real you. that will get them going.

I have never used bad language, I have always used a tone that was forceful but not to where they would not listen. OK, except for the fact I did email Gary the article that Richard Justice wrote and told him to enjoy the press coverage. In fact I have put most of my letters on here so people know my tone and have also asked others if they thought the tone was ok. But most of the time I get the same canned response from Gary and KEYE and the facts he gives out is full of holes that as an individual you can not dispute because you are not privillaged to have all the info.

Call the other stations and give them your story, I bet they would do anything to put a dent in the ratings of KEYE

Gary A. Vinson makes me more and more angry every time I hear something from him. The liar is calling us liars now.

How about a pregame tailgate in front of the KEYE headquarters before we head over to Third Base for the game?

Why don't you guys call him out?

Tell the newspaper that the info the printed is not correct and you want a retraction. Give them the e-mails he has sent to you as evidence. Tell them you want him to apologize for calling Texans fans liars. The way he is talking, he sounds like a Cowgirl fan.

BTW, who writes for the Austin American Statesmen anyway? Better yet, who edits it? In one article they say it is the Texans 7th season and in this one the say the Titans passed on Young.

"Many fans became disgruntled when the Titans passed on a chance to take Young with the first pick of the 2006 NFL draft."

I have done that and one better, I even mentioned how KEYE did false advertisement regarding Home for the Texans preseason games which had to be taken off their website because they lied and which also was a minor infraction of FCC rules. I also pointed out that in the Statesmen gary Vinso said he would start the season with the Texans and he lied about that. The statesmen bought what this snakeoil salesman was selling hook line and sinker.

So far all the blogs are saying is they are not showing the first two games so how is that making things up? Just because he does not like the heat he is getting and the national media attention he is getting while making Austin look like a joke is no reason for him to call the Texans fans liars because he is the one who lied.

Tailgating in front of KEYE on sunday morning is a good way to get arrested and will do nothing since he will not be there most likely.

I'm not sure what good it will do, but here is a letter I just sent to K-EYE backers/financial supporters here in Austin.

Dear Sirs,
I am writing you this letter to let you know that I and many Houston Texans fans will be starting a boycott of your business's due to your support of K-EYE 42 , Austin's CBS affiliate station, and the fact that they will not support a local team and that they are using a feeble excuse, with no actual statistics to judge this upon.
If we are to support local business interests here in Austin, shouldn't these business interest also support other local interests?
Gary Vinson is using the excuse that Vince Young, being a U.T. ex, is a bigger draw than a whole team. By this reasoning, shouldn't they also play virtually every team that an ex U.T. player now plays for?
Until such time as you, the financial supporters, express this to K-EYE and demand they also support local interests, we will no longer be doing business with your companies.
Sincerely,
Kevin Rollins

If enough people pressure the keye advertisers, local companies, so whomever is on the news commercials at 6pm and 10pm, the message will get across LOUD and CLEAR. That is keye's revenue, advertising.
So call, email, fax these local companies, tell them you WILL NOT be doing business or using their services due to their advertising on keye and keye's decison to NOT show Texans games.
The sales accountants will soon be hearing from disgruntled advertisers and then and ONLY then will this vinson character pull the plug on this idiocy.

Again, I have bitten the bullet and gone to Direct TV, so mention that to TIme Warner too when you CANCEL with them.
