He waited for three years behind Michael Vick for a shot in Atlanta, and the trade that sent Matt Schaub to Houston will be talked about for years given the current circumstances in Georgia. Schaub has lived up to the advance billing with back-to-back brilliant preseason efforts. He was spot on in his delivery against the Cardinals last week and followed that up with a tremendous effort against Dallas over the weekend, completing 12-of-16 pass attempts for 109 yards, including a toss between two defenders for a touchdown.

Another player in Houston who has planted himself firmly on the radar is wide receiver/returner Jacoby Jones. He's been positively electric on the field, showing tremendous speed and moves in the open field. He returned a punt 91 yards for a touchdown (he had an 80-yard return against the Cardinals) and also leaped high for a touchdown grab. He stands 6-foot-4 and could be an intriguing option for Schaub downfield.
 
Man, I've got nervous energy about getting to the regular season. We were given false hope with a 3-1 record last pre-season, so I am anxious to see our offense in action when it counts.

I'm not skeptical or anything...but I'm still just a little gun shy about trusting what we see in these full-priced practice games.

Embrace the optimism! :specnatz:

The rational side of me says that I should be cautious in my optimism, but I am a fan! So to hell with it. For a few weeks here, I will go forth with unbridled enthusiasm for all things Texans! We'll see where I am when they pull out the bridles ......
 
I notice Jacoby is up to 6'-4" now. At this rate, he'll be 7'-5" when we go into the Bye week.

I understand the skepticism, but the offense has never looked this good (not even close) in the preseason or otherwise.
 
I love our offseason moves, I believe in this coach, and this GM, they've made all the right decisions in my opinion, even regarding last years draft. I can't help but feel optimistic about this coming season, but, I have to maintain an even keel. I've told myself I'll be happy with an 8 -8 season, and I'm sticking to that. Anything more than that, and I'll need CPR I'm sure :)

Agreed. Very seldomly, if at all, did we win games in the past with stellar offense. It was typically average routine offense that was backed by a slow start defense that finished big.

This year our defense has breathing room with an offense that is a threat on every drive. We are now a playoff contender with our current line-up, it's just a matter of if we see the playoff's sooner than later.

I feel the same way the both of you do. Although quite optimistic, I'm going to take it game by game. Hence the reason I try and refrain from posting predictions. I guess I'm a little superstitious when it comes to my home teams.

If it makes you feel any better, I took a look at every pre-season since 02 and this year has definitly been the best. Our first unit has scored more points this year than they ever have. :texflag:
 
I'm thinking playoffs, and once we get in there I will be thinking Championship...

I dont' care any more. Call me homer who is drinking too much kool-aid as long as it's possible it can be done. And we aren't entering the season 0-9 are we? NFL is the ultimate parity league also...

Panthers falling off, Steelers fell off(and what were they before they won the superbowl...5-11 or 6-10?), 49ers got better, Saints got better...the National Football League is the only league where you can go from chump to champ in one year so I have high expectations every year...

But this year they are higher than ever because of everything, because we got rid of the the big C(or make that C's)...no not Cancer but it sure as hell was close, that is Casserly, Capers, and Carr and now our franchise can stop moving in reverse.

I agree with both of y'all, and come September 09, every fiber of my being will be in 100% homer mode for the Kansas City game. Heck, I'll be bathing in koolaide before I go to the game.

It's really just residual cautiousness that is ingrained into my psyche after being a lifelong Oilers fan and watching the Texans the past five years. I'll skate all day long on that ice, but a little part of me still wonders how thick or thin it is beneath me. ;)

The big difference I see is that the offense will be able score quality points and move the football consistently no matter the time during the game.

Maybe the Dallas game was a fluke, but there were some really strong plays made in the first half.

<---- The beer Helmet is now filled with kool-aid, and it sure tastes sweet. Honestly after watching these Texans that unlike in the past we won because we just made less critical mistakes than the opponent, where now we can flat out beat them by playing real football.
 
Well, I don't usually get into prediction threads or whatever. . .

But I have a feeling that this season will be something special, and Schaub is the reason. I thought he'd be good when he got here, but I didn't think he'd be this good so quickly.

Now, I'm a skeptic to the core. All those years of following the Oilers ingrained it into my soul. In the previous 5 years of watching the Texans, I never ever thought they had a chance of having a winning season. And in each one of those seasons, I based it on what I saw during preseason play.

This time is different. Barring injuries, barring injuries . . . . did I say barring injuries . . .

. . . I think this team is playoff bound.

Let's see on of those 5'8" DBs cover him then.


So far so good with Schaub. He looks very good in comparison with Carr; I anxiously await seeing how he compares to defenses in regular season mode.

Yeah, but when we were 3-1 last year in pre season, it was mostly because of the strong play of Sage and the 2nd unit. The difference this year is that Schaub and the first unit is creating leads and the second unit is keeping them or extending them.
