Chiefs are awful; Texans should win 1st game

I have seen 2 of the KC Chiefs preseason games as well as been keeping up with them on Hard Knocks. They were absolutely awful against the Saints last night.

Their OL is terrible and their QB play is a joke. We should blitz the hell out of them. If we play smart we should get 2-3 intereceptions from Croyle. I am excited about the opening game.

Expect the Chiefs to, Run, Run and Run some more...

We need to be able to stop the run or we will have a difficult task...

I've been saying that I think that the Chiefs are going to be vulnerable in that game with us and that I expect to win it.

Even before Hard Knocks came on.

BUT... this is just pre-season. Don't judge them on what you've seen so far. They may be a better team than we've seen.

Nah....

the Chiefs are a team on the brink of turmoil....

Hopefully we can beat them pretty handily and announce to the NFL world we're here....

No doubt in my mind we beat the Red heads.

Leftwich didn't look to good either in the Jags/Pack game. I hope "the Jack" keeps him as the starter all season.

Just remember that we shored up our O-line by taking the left tackle KC was more than happy to part ways with.

It will be an interesting game. You have two rebuilding teams that think they are better than their record. It comes down to consistency. If the Texans offense can remain consistent (move the ball, horde the clock), then the Texans can win it. If the Chiefs are given too many opportunities, though, this could be a hard-fought game that slips away from the Texans.

What it comes down to is this:

Will the Texans play the Chiefs as if they are a beatable team, or as a formidable foe that went to the play-offs last year and therefore should kick their butt? I want to not see the sequel to the Bills 2005 and Redskins 2006 games.

The Chiefs best defensive player, RDE Jared Allen, will be serving the first of his 2 game suspension for a DUI. That's fortunate for the Texans, because this guy is tough to handle. Other matchups that should be interesting:

RT Eric Winston vs. LDE Tamba Hali - Two 2nd year players on the rise. Hali led Chiefs with 8 sacks as a rookie and will be counted on to provide a pass rush.

TE Owen Daniels vs. SS Bernard Pollard - Another battle of '06 draftees. Daniels is coming off a solid rookie and should benefit from QB Matt Schaub's abilty to spread the ball to all receivers. Pollard is replacing longtime vet Sammy Knight and has had coverage difficulties in the preseason.

SS Jason Simmons vs. TE Tony Gonzalez - Gonzo is still playing at a Pro Bowl level entering his 11th season. He should be young Chiefs QB Brodie Croyle's goto receiver. Simmons replaces the injured Glenn Earl in the starting lineup, giving up 8" in height to Gonzalez.

RB Larry Johnson vs. MLB DeMeco Ryans - Two of the very best at their respective positions. DeMeco meeting LJ in the hole should be worth the price of admission.

I really hope LJ does play I mean come on now wouldn't you like to see how good our run D really is against a true test like LJ.:texflag: :texflag: :texflag:

The chiefs are indeed very beatable.

Of course they have LJ but I think we load up the box against him. He will have his insane # of carries and get his yards but truthfully he doesn't scare me like he should.

Because their qb's aren't that great, esp. for the 1st game of the season, imo. Their wr's not that great so we HAVE to focus on LJ and Gonzalez. Our secondary less Dunta is very shaky. I see Gonzales having a good game.

Aren't they going to be missing some very good players? on Defense?

I think we win, heck yea we win

Damon Huard has been named the starting QB for week 1.

"I just think we've exposed Brodie where we know what he is a lot more than we did last year. We know what Damon is because he has a history," Edwards said. "When you weigh those things, you go into the opener and say, `Hey, we've got to try to win the game.' In my opinion, this gives us the best chance."
I'm sure Edwards made the choice because he feels Huard is less likely to make mistakes. But, this may make the Chiefs easier to gameplan. Huard doesn't have the arm to stretch the defense, which will allow the Texans to play their safeties closer to the line of scrimmage to support the run.

Croyle may make more mistakes, but he also has the ability to get the ball downfield to Kennison, Parker, & Bowe. Not to mention, Huard has been a sitting duck in the pocket this preseason while playing with a calf injury. The Texans may have caught a break on this QB selection.
