Strong O Line Prospects

There is going to be an infusion of talent on the offensive lines in the NFL next season. This is just the talent slated to go in the first or second round:

1. D'Brickishaw Ferguson OT
2. Alex Barron OT
3. Jammal Brown OT
4. Marcus McNeil OT
5. Johnathan Scott OT
6. Andrew Whitworth OT
7. David Baas OG
8. Marcus Johnson OG
9. Chris Colmer
10. Elton Brown

Just my opinion, but we NEED to look for another team looking to trade up and pick up a couple of extra, needed picks, then draft Jammal Brown OR Elton Brown. By my evaluation, Jammal Brown is....NASTY. He plays with such tenacity, and domination. If we dont get him and he becomes the next in the class of Johnathan Ogdan, Orlando Pace, Walter Jones,
(TONY BOSELLI)we will be kicking ourselves when he becomes an All Pro. Opinions? :hmmm:
 
I have heard that ferguson is going to stay and if that is the case, then that means barron is going to be gone by our pick. Jammal Brown is also projected as a right tackle since he doesn't have quick feet and he also had help playing with one of the best o lines in college football.
 
See, I think Wand will have a better year in 2005 and Wade is doing well on his side. Wand is still a project and was pushed into a starting spot this year, a year early. But what has Carr running for his life is our interrior line. McKinney and Pitts have shown nothing this season. It also wouldn't hurt to have quality back-ups otherwise we'll have more of the likes of Milford Brown to look forward to! OUCH!
 
I think Wand will be the starter at LT in 2005, unless we sign a FA LT, which I don't think will happen. A center in round 2 would be a good pickup for us IMO. I looked back at the 2004 draft and the first center was picked with the 13th pick of the 2nd round. I think we need a widebody NT in the first and a center in round 2. McKinney is our weakest link in the OL IMO. He may have to do for 2005 but we need his replacement.
 
To add to my thoughts on Wand; I think he will only be replaced via FA if our guys in charge don't think he is our LT of the future
 
I think Wand did okay...he might as well been a rookie this year, first year in the starting line-up, alot of inexperience but he did fine. Your right on McKinney. I don't really like him but I think Carr does and I feel that's why they haven't done something to improve the C position. I'll tell you this though, Carr won't like him for too long if he continues to anchor an offensive line that allows him to get sacked 50 times season!
 
Here is an exerpt from footballsfuture.com players page. I thought you might find it interesting, since the Texans like to go after guys with good character.

That's something people keep forgetting about the Texans, they draft quality people. Carr and Andre Johnson and now Robinson and Babin, they all fit the personality of the team. Someone like Randy Moss or Warren Sapp wouldn't fit in with the team because of their bold and loud personality. Roderick Wright comes to mind this year or Fergeson. Looking back last year when it was a toss up between Robinson and Hall, I thought Hall had more talent but Robinson's personality is what probably won the team over. He fits our team.
 
Good point Hou059. Having read your post...it made me wonder if part of why PEEK wasn't given more playing time is because of how his personality and on-field aggression is alot more "out there" than the guys you mentioned.
Personally, I think Peek is good and has great upside. And I'd love to see him improve so that he's an every-down player. But I wonder if your point (which is valid) would hinder the chances of that.

Yeah, about Peek I also think that he rely's too much on talent and not enough on knowing his assignments. But your right, he has a huge upside and I would like to see him starting somewhere if not in Houston. I think once he learns how to control his aggression he will find more playing time. I think of Kevin Greene, the man was a mad-man on the field but when the play was over, he was normal. I don't he hears the whistle half the time and his anger spills over after the play has been whistled dead.

I agree. I believe the Texans also like the character (work ethic) of Wand and Joppru. The problem for us is that I find it difficult to find info on character, compared to height, weight and 40 time. We need an 'All Non-Gangster' list for draft day (although the people who follow Dallas won't want to look at it).

What are you saying about Wright and Ferguson. Are they Gangsters or character guys?
 
Wright and Fergeson are quilaity guys. They are 1 and 2 on my draft list for the Texans. Yeah an "All-Non Thugged Out, Drug Dealin, Clothes Stealin, Weed-Smoking, Woman Beater, Gold Grill Having" List would be great! :BananaWav
 
Since there is no first round interior o-linemen in this draft, but really a lot of good tackles, maybe we should trade down to a team that really needs a good tackle and gain an extra second round pick. We would still be a ble to get a good d-lineman like a Sean Cody or an Antajj Hawthorne then pick up a safety like Darnell Bing,Brodney Pool, Ernest Shazor, Or Donte Nicholson.

With our the other second round pick, we could get David Bass or IMO the best center in the draft Jason Brown
 
I think we need to look at some guards, a tight end, a backup tackle, and another WR, as for the offense. I think we need alot of o-line work still. Carr isen't having a whole lot of time to find people open, and it could be that nobody is getting open, or Carr isen't quite there yet at going through his reads quickly.
