ATLANTA -- A quarterback depth chart already perilously thin because of the ongoing absence of Michael Vick became even more threadbare Sunday, as the Atlanta Falcons lost second-year veteran D.J. Shockley for the season to a left knee injury.

Shockley tore the anterior cruciate ligament in the knee and also suffered damage to the medial collateral ligament in Friday night's preseason victory over the Buffalo Bills, two league sources confirmed. The injury was also reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which cited sources with knowledge of the injury.

Team officials on Friday night termed the injury a sprain. Shockley underwent an MRI exam on Saturday and the club's medical staff huddled on Sunday to evaluate the procedure. The Falcons announced on Sunday afternoon that they would not have an update on Shockley's condition until coach Bobby Petrino addressed it following the Monday practice
session.

Those 2nd rounders must be looking worse by the minute in ATL. I expect them to go fishing for more qb help.

Just a thought thought here. Atl is looking like it'll not do so well this season and if the Texans offense continues to improve...who comes out smelling like roses? Just a thought.

Let's trade them Van Pelt and Porter for a couple of 2's...

You should trade them Shammy back for your picks plus next years #1 .... I mean what are you gong to do with a tackle dummy anyways?

*shakes head* Someone's feeling uppity today. Did you see that shot "his highness" took?? I think I would be a little more worried about YOUR protection..

I hear they're in negotiations for Mark Brunell. Probably that's the smartest thing they could do.

I have a little bit of respect for Redman, and I'd like to see what Harrington can do over the season but Brunell would be a good veteran presence and I'm sure he can still start in a pinch.

Sucks they lost Shockley, though.

This next week against Dallas will help us see how bad our protection is. If Schaub's eating turf all game, I'd say we've got some problems but I don't imagine it will be that bad.

I can understand being a state vs. state thing but it is still preseason.

Raiders 4-0 in preseason last season ...... and how did that work out for them?

And with the #1 pick of the 2007 draft .......

Sounds like someone does not want his team to have to face Schuab twice a year.

Now that is just priceless.

:fans: :texflag: :d:

:specnatz:

Seriously I nearly wet myself reading this .....
good job.

The only team scared of the Texans any season should be the Jaguars and possibly a team trying for the next expansion team.

I'll add this though ....... I am sure both our team are happy that next season we have to play the Fail-con.

It is the third game in pre-season who the hell takes the third game of pre-season lightly.

Bullsh*t!!

They are who we thought they were!!

Dennis Green.

I think it would be more something like this .....

Arizona 35 Houston 7

The Texans where who we thought they were ....... :chicken:

Man you are so full of it. What exactly have your Tits done lately that has the NFL powerhouses shaking in their cleats???? NOTHING.... thats what.

I had more meant that Dallas is very aggressive, this preseason, on the blitz. If the linemen can keep Schaub's jersey clean, I'll feel pretty good about how they'll do during the regular season. Obviously, there's not a 1-1 mapping between preseason and regular season. Look at Indianapolis for that. I'm just saying that in the third preseason game, you probably get a more accurate look at the way things will go than any other preseason game. And if Dallas blitzes the heck out of us, as I expect they will, that will be a good test.

LOL...state vs. state. Last time I checked, Houston and Dallas were both in Texas.

Yes you are correct ...

I was refering to the fact that you are both in the same state. Like the O-town 9ers games.

I would agree but I still think the teams play vanilla not to tip thier hand to regular season teams. No reason to give game film to other teams just to win in preseason IMO.

I guess VY is just waiting till regular season to hold on to the ball and make some decent throws.

He played in one game against a team that went to the AFC Championship game last year and stuggled. I fail to see a point.

Oh yeah Preseason is like the playoffs for the Texans then regular season starts and reality sets in.

So with all other teams it is preseason and it is meaningless, but to the Texans it is playoffs.

I see it is preseason for your excueses as well, you are just practicing because you know you will be making a lot of them and you want to make sure you are in mid-season form by the start of the first game.

Last I heard, Aaron Brooks was still available. He knows how to get it to Joe Horn.

Just a thought.

Well I realize that this thread has since gone in a completely different direction, but according to a second hand source, 610 radio stated today that Brooks is scheduled to meet with the Falcons.

Sometimes things are just too damn tidy to not happen.

Because I also root for the Giants this thread keeps throwing me. It's happened twice now when it is the top thread and when logging in I see "Shockey done for the year" under "The National Football League". Fortunately it actually says "Shockley". BTW out of laziness, who is Shockley?

I read the same things.

Backup QB for the Fail-cons

Oh you were? Is that why you said state vs. state? If that is what they teach you all up there in the country, then....

You are seriosly grasping if that is your best smack ....

BTW I live in CA so I am not really sure "what up there in the country" .... means unlesss you actually believe that Texas is not part of the US anymore?

I thought you were in Tennessee...which is the country (middle of nowhere and hickville).

CA is where David Carr is from, so that's even worse...

Wrong again .... kind of ....

Carr is from SoCal while I am from NorCal. SF Bay area.

Same as me calling you a Cowboys fan ....

*smirks* Arrow, you just keep getting weaker and weaker....

I think someone sees the writing on the walls for this season.

When taken in context with the post I quoted it seemed fitting that I just sink to that weak of a level. Play on even field if you will.

Don't worry Bill when we skunk you again this season I'll make sure to bring up a few of your better posts .... :gun:
