Interesting Banter with Megan...

Bigbob: Where you as dissapointed as I 'm with Jordan Blacks preformance?
Megan_Manfull: It sounds like you were pretty disappointed... Jordan Black has done OK, but he's not doing well enough to even threaten Ephraim Salaam out of that starting job.
stroswin: What is chance that the rookie Harrison beats out the rest to start at safety
Megan_Manfull: It will be hard, but Harrison is looking good. He just is slightly behind still because he missed the offseason. He is catching up though. But Von Hutchins definitely bought himself some time with his interception Saturday. That's what the Texans want to see from that position.
z: When does the team run out of excuses for Mario? Is anyone starting to seriously think that he was a bust as the #1?
Megan_Manfull: They are on Mario hard in practice. We'll see how he comes out next week. It would be nice to see him play with a little more of a sense of urgency.
texansdee: how many receivers will the texans keep?? i see 5 making it, andre, keenan, kevin walter, jacoby jones, and mathis
Megan_Manfull: It's going to be hard for Keenan to make it if he can't get on the field. He's still sidelined with his strained quadriceps. Andre' Davis could stay instead of him. Special teams will be key for the guys behind Andre Johnson.
JK: How did Charlie Anderson do? I thought I saw Shante Orr in the stat column...did he play too? I didnt get to watch...
Megan_Manfull: Anderson had two tackles and a quarterback hurry, which was good. Orr played with the third team and looked strong too. He had two tackles, .5 sacks, one quarterback hurry and one pass defensed.
texansfan: who do you think will win out for the third quarterback spot?
Megan_Manfull: I don't think they will keep a third quarterback for the second year in a row. I think they will place Jared Zabransky on the practice squad -- unless he lights it up in the preseason and they risk losing him by placing him on waiver. Then they would keep him for their No. 3. He'll play this Saturday and it will give them an idea of where he stands.
tmac9496: I know it is hard to predict but do u see charles spencer making it back as a starter next yr at close to 90%
Megan_Manfull: The Texans want to see him in Week 7 as a solid starter. It will bode well for him in 2008, if he could get a couple of starts in this season and then have all offseason to get ready for next year.
Gamer63: Why is it that the Texans look like the Texans of old even with the changes they have made. I hope I am not setting myself up for another dissapointing season
Megan_Manfull: Just keep reminding yourself it's only the preseason. Don't get disappointed until they give you a reason in September.
dave: Who will win the center battle?
Megan_Manfull: Flanagan and McKinney will both likely make the team. It seems Flanagan might have the edge, but his durability is a major concern. I expect both will have started games there by the end of the season.
BIGERN07: Why could the running back not get any penetration up the middle on goal line?
Megan_Manfull: They were horrible in the goal-line situations. That's Ron Dayne's territory, but he wasn't able to do anything. Part of the problem was that he was trying to run behind the second-team offensive line. And, the Texans didn't open up all their red zone packages. They still looked terrible though.
Harvey: Will Darius Walker get a shot in pre-season action? What are his chances of making the team?
Megan_Manfull: He had two carries for eight yards Saturday. He'll get more looks, but it's going to be pretty hard for him to make the team. Right now, the Texans are really looking hard at Wali Lundy and Samkon Gado. It didn't help Darius that Patrick Pass also looked great on special teams Saturday.
stroswin: What is the chance that DROB good buddy Bennet starting some time this season. I have heard nothing but good things about him.
Megan_Manfull: There's always a chance. Faggins has had some injury issues in the past, and if Bennett starts making plays, there's a chance he could creep past Faggins. The Texans are still high on Faggins at this point though.
texansfan: Do you ever see Jacoby Jones as the number 2 receiver?
Megan_Manfull: I do. I'm just not sure if that is this year. You've got to give Kevin Walter more of an opportunity.
Matt: Out of 22 starters to lose to injury, wouldn't you rank Earl as the 22nd most important?
Megan_Manfull: We'll find out when other teams start trying to go for big plays early this season.
Harvey: Based on what I saw this week, I think that the Texans might be an 8-8 team at best. What do you project them to be when the season ends?
Megan_Manfull: That's impressive that you pick 8-8 after that preseason showing. I don't think you'll be very far off.
davidcarr: is it possible we could start rosenfels over schaub
Megan_Manfull: No. Not at this point.
eric1836: Do you think Kubiak could urge coach Franklin to "tick-off" Mario before the next game?
Megan_Manfull: Franklin doesn't need anyone's urging to "tick off" Mario. He's pretty good at it. We'll see today how he plans to go after Mario.
Matt: McClain says Wynn is having a great camp today, but with Mathis and Jones looking great on returns, where does he fit in on the roster?
Megan_Manfull: It's going to be hard. However, Wynn is making himself heard on defense. He's making big plays in practice and dealing some big hits. He is making them take a good, hard look at him.
dgro11: The disappointment started by committing to matt schaub. Do you think we have a shot at the # 1 pick next year?
Megan_Manfull: Nope. I think the team will disappoint you by drafting lower than that.

I don't agree with all her opinions but she gives some nice inside info..

I didn't know Babin and Kubiak were at odds last season...

I am still getting a loading 45 seconds with Jared Z, so I cannot comment on the Babin thing, but honestly it does not surprise me because of the transition of a new coach and new scheme. Babin seemed to play better later in the season than early, so I would think they worked out the kinks.

I wish I could ask Megan-Manfull one question .. do you hate people accidently thinking you are anna-megan. I am guilty of it, one knows what she is doing the other is more of a nitwit than the first airhead fox hired years ago for eye candy on the sidelines (I will let you figureout which is which).

I do agree with you on not agreeing with everything she says but still not a bad interview.

I click link and it goes to Anna-Megan and you mention Megan-Manfull, now I am really confussed????

Does it concern anyone else that we're looking at starting rookies both last season and now this season (Okoye, Harrison, Bennett, Jones)? The rooks we're looking at in the defensive backfield especially concern me.

I'm all for placing the best talent on the field that we can, but most NFL coaches follow the unwritten rule that "rare is the rookie that starts".

Perhaps it's more a statement of how poorly this team was managed previously than how long a player has been in the league.

Just a passing thought...

I find it interesting how she talks about the coaches getting on Mario...

Hopefully they can get on him before the game...

I saw Frank Bush ream his butt out Wednesday. I didn't notice what Mario did wrong, but Bush definitly caught my eye.

Now that I think about it, the coach's physique looked a bit more like LB's coach Johnny Holland. Why the heck would he be reaming Mario out though?

That scares me...

I've heard several reports of coaches riding him hard...

We had quite a few rookies starting in 2006. Mario, DeMeco, Spencer for 1.5 games, and Winston.

D-linemen are often counted on to keep blockers off linebackers. That's certainly not the primary role of a pass rushing DE, but a byproduct of a good DL in general is less pressure on the LBs. So... front 4 performance certainly has an effect on the middle 3's perfomance.

If JH and Jethro have a good working relationship, then JH may have some latitude there.

It's also possible that JH is not a big Mario fan. Nothing says that he has to 'like' every player on the defense. It's also possible that JH was not a big fan of Karm last year.

Hey, I'm in the whatever it takes to get production bandwagon.:texflag:

It scares me that he needs to be rode....

I'm in the whatever it takes camp as well, but Mario needs to show that the practice and hard work are paying off...

Dude, no doubt. I like Mario and truly want him to succeed for many reasons.

But I can't help wondering if the great ones require their fires be stoked by someone else or if it is born within. I've always heard that it is self-motivated, which concerns me when we constantly hear that Mario has to be mad to rise up to his potential and that coaches need to ride him for motivation.

Maybe it's mountain out of molehill...or maybe it's purely wishful thinking to hope that we have the 2nd coming of a Bruce Smith or Reggie White type of DE. Mario might just end up being a good pass rusher and not one of the greats, and that might just be an 'iiwii' (it is what it is). We can't concern ourselves with the past and his position in the draft, because there is nothing productive resulting from that exercise.

I don't agree that it's that rare for rookies to start in the NFL. I think most teams have a couple of rookies starting.

I think Mario needs to go back to the mind set he had in college. Being limited to one position will help and not listening to so many voices yelling at him

My exact feelings, DB.......except I would give no exception even if 'iiwii." I remember something that our own Hakeem Olajuwon once said, and has been repeatedly quoted in various forums:

"I've always felt it was not up to anyone else to make me give my best."

Well said, CnD. The quote from HO says it all, too. And that's probably the difference between a HoF career and just being a good player. Mario obviously has the package, so I have to think it's something in his head and heart.
