speed on DL

I am the only one that feels the top priority of the off season is the D line and haveing a speed edge rusher for the 3-4 will take the D to a new level

Useing free agency to get Wand a mentor and maybe drafting a RB to complement DD, as well as improveing overal depth will help the O, and the D does need another CB and ILB for the future, but speed on the D line is job #1.

The key for a D-linemen in teh 3-4 is strength and the ability to engage multiple blockers. Speed is not a huge issue, thought speed is always nice to have.

You are correct, but i think the Texans 3 Dlmen are slower than anyone else who runs the 3-4. Our guys need to provide more than the 5 or so sacks that they got this year as a unit.

Possible, but Payne was at his best when he was just pushing the center back into the pocket. Very little foot speed needed for that.

True, but in 2002 and 2003 he showed above average quickness (not confusing with pure foot speed) as did Walker in 2002 when he had 6 or so sacks. Quickness is actually the attribute I am looking for versus being able to run in the 40 in ____.

Agree with the end result you are talking about but not the premise. Payne picked up 2 sacks this year, 1 in 2002. Robaire showed definite progression as the year went on and in the last quarter was a disruptive force. Walker was the major underachiever IMO. He has complained about opportunities but who was supposed to give them to him? Don't know if he can, but Walker needs to get back to 2002 form and he, the DL and the OLB's will all look better. The Texans need a 4th DL that will be a serious rotation/future guy--right now they have depth/rotation but are any of them future starters? The drop off when Payne went out of the game seemed obvious to me--made the OLB's and DE's less effective.

I'm not exactly sure what opportunities G-Funk was talking about. I'd think as a D-Lineman he should create his own chances. Maybe he's referring to him being asked to tie up blockers to allow Babin, Wong, and Peek to get after the QB.

G-Funk is a washed up has been ..... Its pretty plain to see , he had 6.5 sacks in 2002 and has had a grand total of 0.5 since . His injury has slowed him tremendously . I really believe Walker is the MAIN PROBLEM on the D-Line and should be used as a back-up released or traded away if he wont accept it . Yes i know they dont like to pay that kinda money for back-ups but he just isnt getting the job done .

I've said that a while back and got the same it's the OLB job to rush the passer. Sure hasn't worked out for us. Our line does nothing so our OLB and MLB have no lanes to blitz or stop the run. Seymour gets his sacks for the Pats and he stops the run. What's wrong w/ that. We need a good end period. I'm w/ you. I also think more agressive play calling would help. We rarely blitz on pass downs and it hurts.

not only does the d line need speed, but the entire defense needs more speed. when i saw the game against the packers, it looked like the d was going half speed compaired to the packer's offense.

In the 4-3 you have two ends and two tackles. In a 3-4 you basically have 2 ends and 3 tackles. That is the biggest difference in the two schemes when you just look at the physical aspects of the front-7's. You still have an edge rusher on each end with the 3-4 but you have 3 guys with multiple gap responsiblities (Tackles) instead of 2 guys shooting gaps.

If drafting type of outside end, someone who is both disruptive in the gaps and quick on the outside, is important then who else could work.

(Smith could always move to NG)

:shocked The last thing the Texans need is another RB with Hollings and Wells around. You might say that Hollings is hurt too much, but when you are talking about a backup who cares -- especially if you have a good third-stringer like Wells? When Hollings finally does get healthy, Houston will have a good one-two punch at RB -- or else a solid #2 guy.
