Why Isn't Anyone Talking About Jacoby???

I was away this past weekend and just watched the game before jumping on the boards. I can't believe more people aren't talking about Jacoby Jones. Sure, he had a few drops and mistakes, but this kid is going to be a star. He made some very tough catches and looked to get open deep with ease. And it looks like he plays with a lot of fire which is exactly what this offense needs. There's no way that Kevin Walter starts over Jones for very long.

Who is Jacoby, and what does Jones have to do with it? :)

He did look really good against non-starting defenders, but a better pass by Schaub and Walter has a touchdown. Plus, McCardell didn't play; so, we'll see what happens next week. No doubt JJ was worth the pick used on him, though.

There has been lots of talk about JJ, just no thread titles for him. Several people on here (me included) are ready to pencil him in the #2 slot. I know, it is only the first preseason game but man... he brought his "A" game Saturday.

I'm not so sure that was a "bad" pass by Schaub. I thought it was just a timing pass and the falling DB screwed up Walter's timing. But, as someone else brought up, if that's a faster WR like... hmmm... I don't know... AJ, Jerome... or... dare I say it... maybe JJ... that pass gets caught.

As a person who has been down this road numerous times before, while I liked what I saw from Jacoby it was one pre-season game not playing significant time with or against the starters. If I get 3 or 4 performances in the exhibition season like that then I will work on getting excited versus mildly happy.

When I first saw the play I was upset at Kevin...But I gained my composure and realized I wasn't at the game in person and couldn't really tell how far in front of him the ball was thrown...

I thought he could have sold out to make the catch originally, but I don't know....

Jacoby defintely has the talent, but I still think he needs to work on his hands and adjusting to the NFL (like getting 2 feet in). It's only a matter of time however before he turns into our #2 WR.

If he had laid out, he could have made the catch, I think.

Jacoby should be our WR 2 by midseason at the latest imo.

He offers a dimension that Kevin Walter cannot in that he can stretch the field. After this Walter can go back to the slot and being our 3rd down safety valve where he is best suited (again imo)

Eventually I think he will be our #2...

I can't see him getting it this year...they really want to give Walter his shot and McCardell is above Jacoby.

But McCardell isn't going to play forever, so when he is done Jacoby will move up and compete with Walter...that's if Walter proves he can be #2.

But I was really impressed with him though.

I'm a bit surprised, given that the #2 spot isn't totally nailed down, that Walter didn't get more reps with the 2nd team.

Maybe "surprised" is the wrong word. "Disappointed" is more accurate.

I had been hyping Jacoby since we drafted him and I looked at his stats. When I saw him for myself at training camp he was droping too many balls and I felt like Jerome was out playing him at WR. He did look good in the game though and that is where it counts. I expect to see him get more work with the 1st teamers so that we can see what we really have in him. We still have 3 preseason games to go and I think it is a good omen that we are even having this discusion. I hope he breaks through to be the #2 WR, but if he doesn't that means we should have a quality 3 WR set and if the D sells out to the long ball covering AJ and Jacoby that should mean that Kevin or Owen would be open over the middle. I think this is a good dilemma to have. Can you imagine a 4 WR set with AJ, Jacoby, Jerome, and Walter. We might not do it very often, but it might be fun to watch the defense try to cover it.

This was my initial thought early in the game when he was in the endzone, but later he had a spectacular catch on the sideline where he was just in bounds by his toes. That is a catch seasoned vets make. I thought that was very difficult considering it was his first game in the NFL whereas in college he wouldn't have had to had that type of concentration (needing only one foot in bounds). I was very impressed with his play.

Jacoby Jones was a revelation. It was the first time I had ever seen him play. It's not like Lane College was on TV much, so I was looking forward to seeing him, and I wasn't disapointed. He clearly looks like the best rookie on the roster at this early point. He defintely should be the PR, while working his way into the line-up at WR, but I don't know how long Walter will be able to hold off this kid. He's good already, and the NFL game and arena size didn't seem to faze him whatsoever. I'm very excited about this kid and his future. I see a potential star in the making. :splits:

I thought the same thing. It happened on our side of the field. I'd have to see the footage to see if the falling DB caused him to miss a step but that was my initial reaction.

As for Jones, I was real anxious to see him play and he did not disappoint. I was sitting behind the Bears bench and he lined up on that side a lot. I don't remember him dropping anything that should have been caught. The punt return happened in front of us as well. Our special teams in general were exciting most of the night.

Maybe JJ turns on the after burners and makes the play. Maybe. It was a bad ball thrown by a jacked up guy with his peddle to the metal hands on his sterring wheel for the first time. I'm just glad they have a choice at Kick return specailist and aren't restrainded by a draft slot /potential desidsion on certain guys on the team. What JJ's play said to me is that the guy has world class speed and is more than a rookie draft pick at this point. He has worked hard to get to where he is. The little dive play, which I'm sure we will not see this preseason, with the flanker coming around on an end around action, now has big teeth in it.
Someone will have to check the flanker around guy everytime they run the play. World class speed will dictated that to the D. All I know for a fact at this point is he is a lot closer to John Taylor than Tyrone Calico. He's made a good start but....I'll be shocked if Kubiak doesn't make him work for the #2 slot. And, .... he is going to be a monster in the slot. If it was my team, he rotates the slot untill someone gets dinged. He's still a rookie from a small school. Teaspoon fulls at a time.

I dunno.
IIRC, Walter and Charlie Adams (#19) had the only real drops all night. And between Mathis' new attitude (he didn't drop anything either) and Davis' speed, I wonder if Walter is even the #3 WR. And we haven't seen McCardell yet. Anyone thinking that he'll get cut? I ain't.

Probably because they have an entire season to evaluate what Walter brings to the team and they want to see what they have with Jones.

If Jacoby would have kept north-south on that punt return he would have had a couple more threads about him. I think he realized that after the game.

jacoby is great, i think he can eventaully be our number 2 receiver, he was playing so well with sage:fans: he had a great game last weekend i cant wait to see how he does this week!
