Tampa Bay Buccaneers 0-26 to start thier franchise. Not sure that could ever be done again !!

Ryan's 5,714 strikeouts. To show just how impossible I think this will be to reach, take a look at a longtime strike out man, Roger Clemens. Of all the K's Clemens has in his 24 year career and counting, he's still over 1,000 K's behind Ryan. That's ONE THOUSAND!!! There's just no way anyone will ever get near that mark.

I also don't think anyone will ever break Ryan's single season K mark of 383. Not unless they go back to 4 man rotations. To hit 383 in the 35 starts a starter gets these days, he'd have to average 11 K's per game.

17-0 is a good one, but I think that's doable. What happens if you go 18-0 to technically break that record, but then you lose the Super Bowl to end up 18-1? I guess those old Dolphins claim perfect season?
 
Hack Wilson had 191 RBIs in 1930. I'm not sure if anyone will ever break that records. Manny Ramirez had 165 back in 1999 and that's the closest anyone has come in the last 70 years.

However, beyond winning streaks or individual accomplishments, which are undoubtedly monumental achievements and deserve due respect, 17-0 represents the perfect season in an elite team sport. That is why, IMO, it is "The Most Hallowed Record in Sports".

Can it be done again? Sure, it's possible...

Actually, it can be topped because there are more games now than there were back then. Also, they didn't have to deal with Free Agency.
 
Thats exactly why it is nearly impossible to top a 'the' perfect season in today's game: Salary Cap and Free Agency mean "parody" throughout the league... That was the point of introducing the cap; to prevent the dynasties and give the have-nots at least a puncher's chance....

Football is obviously the only sport where there's a realistic chance of an undefeated season... I can't see any MLB teams going 162-0!

I do think at some point you'll see it happen. The potnentially even more interesting part is that the team that does it could still be out in the "one-and-done" playoff model of the NFL.
 
I don't really see 17-0 as the end all. Every couple of years there is a team that has a great season, Colts a few years ago, Vikings before that (15-1). It'll fall soon then any of the other records that have been brought up.

With today's day and age of playoff structure, the tough part is that a 14-0 team will most likely rest it's starters for a week or two, especially if they have secured homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. And trying to beat even bad NFL teams with your 2nd stringers is tough.

I don't see it falling anytime soon myself. The NFL is too brutal of a sport, and teams are looking at the Super Bowl Championship as the main goal, not an undefeated season. Teams have come close, but even the '85 Bears couldn't do it. Funny who gave them their one loss, 'eh?
