Something Witty !
I was thinking , can one spectacular play turn this team into a winner and what would it be ?

What if the Texans beat the Chiefs and then in Carolina ... at the 50yd line with 2:50 to go , the Panthers have a 3rd and 8yds to go for a first down leading by 6 points .

The Texans are out of timeouts and if the Panthers convert and get a fieldgoal it's over .

Delhomme is back to pass , Mario beats his man and knocks Ol' Jake senseless ... Jake fumbles and Demeco recovers and runs 45 yards for a TD .

Texans win by 8 because they put in YKW after the kickoff and he throws a slant to Dunta who jumped the route .

Just a thought .

At some point, we will probably have some play or small group of plays that will make it seem that way, but it won't really be the play(s). It'll really be the progression of finally having a good GM and good coaching staff for a long enough length of time, however much that is.
 
I think one play or a few good ones early in the season can go a long way into propelling this team to a winning season. Assuredly winning the first two games this y ear will help a lot and i think it's pretty realistic.The NFC South this year is really a mixed bag and i three out of the four teams you don't really know what you're going to get. My bigger concern is handling our own division

People talk about games being circled. I have a feeling there is a handfull circled on many Texans lockers.
 
Big plays help and bad plays hinder.

Remember last year? We were 3-1 after preseason. We were riding high. Then Philly came and we were down. Then Miami came and we were up. Then Tennessee came and we were down.

Big plays work for every team
 
I don't know about one play.

These are things I would like to see:

1. A two minute drill that works.

2. Passes downfield and in the middle of the field.

3. Against good running teams, a run defense that doesn't have the consistency of melted velveeta.

4. A defense that the league fears. You know, where fantasy players aren't just following the Texans to start players from the opposing offense.

5. No drive killing fumbled snaps.

6. A punting game that doesn't frighten me. ("Stanley from his own 15....gah")

7. Getting the opposing offense in obvious passing downs more often, and then taking advantage of that.

8. Not having an unnatural aversion to the number 8.

Carr has zero chance of beating Delhomme out during preseason.
 
If there were to be a single play that'd turn the team around, I'd guess it would be the winning fieldgoal against the Colts last season. If that couldn't get their attention, what can?:cool:

Why do you think he was brought in. They're in the same situation Kubiak was in. Delhomme has lost his touch with deep throws and Carr will be a next to perfect fit with Smith who is the best deep ball guy in the country and although Jarret dosen't have the speed he still has the hands to help out an off target short to mid range pass.

He was brought in to be their backup QB. Their previous backup was probably the only QB in the league that was worse than $#%@. So, what other choice did they have? Keep Weinke?:cool:

MENTALLY TURN THE 8 ON IT'S SIDE & IT IS THE INFINITY SYMBOL! tHEN REALIZE IT WAS NOT AN INFINITY JUST 5 YEARS.

Carr and deep ball don't belong in the same sentence.

Delhomme's lost touch still had 30 completions of 20+ and 7 of 40+ (on 40 less attempts) compared to Carr's 25 and 3 (most of which came off of YAC).

Harrington led a team with next to no chance of making it out of the bottom five in the league to beating the 2nd best team. granted they were off their game Miami dominated an unbeaten on the side of the ball which got them to the Super Bowl.

I think teams learning to win need something to make the bulb go off . The NFL network has a show about teams , 85 Bears , 49ers , and the Patriots . each one had an event to propell them .

Randy Cross said he could'nt believe it ... laughingstock to SB champs in two years . They had The Catch and found out Ronnie Lott was intense .

Bledsoe gets hurt enter Tom Brady .

The Bears were embarrassed by the 49ers in the playoffs in 84 when they let an OL run it in for a TD . The Bears went to San Fran in 85 and beat their butt ... The Fridge is born .

i was going with the whole 'sack and fumble return for a td' angle but ok.. carr beats out delhomme in his dreams imo

You surely aren't talking about the Bears game are you? The Bears, as you admitted, were "off their game" as evidenced by the fact that they turned the ball over six times.

Here's what ESPN had to say about Joey's performance...
Harrington, who was 16-of-32 for 137 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in his fourth start for the injured Daunte Culpepper, almost single-handedly kept the Bears in the game. The first part was due mainly to Grossman playing his normal football game.

The second part has me pinned... you win.
I still believe that Carr will start in Carolina.

...maybe, but probably not this year. For his sake, Carr should sit and watch this whole year. By his own words, he's happy being the backup.

Unless you think he was lying when he said that....
 
I've seen it happen in college - probably some coincidence, but a last-minute game-winning play early in the season giving the team confidence. I think that happened some with the Titans last year. Maybe it happened with the Bills too last year when they beat us in OT.

The biggest thing, though, I think is that they say with the parity in talent level in the NFL, a few plays here and there make a huge difference. The good teams make them, the bad teams don't - difference in the two OT games last year. So if you do make them, maybe that gives you the confidence that you can do it again - the opposite of a vicious cycle.
 
i know the one play that ended any chance the texans had of being decent with capers as coach.

it was the greenbay game 3 years ago. 4th quarter i think the game was tied but we might of been ahead by 3. we hadnt had a first down in a while and we needed to keep farve from getting right back on the field. 3rd and about 3 and carr roles out has one lineman to beat for the first with plenty of room to the outside instead he throws incomplete into double coverage. 4th down farve comes back in and gb wins by a field goal.

if we could of won that game we would of actually been in our first playoff chase. add that with a loss in the last game to cleveland we go 9 and 7 instead of 7 and 9.

were better off now anyway.

A few early wins - including maybe one that's unexpected - that instill confidence and make the team believe? Yes

We WON a game last season where YKW had -4 yards passing. If the Panthers want that kind of production. They can have it.

That evolves into .... @#$!%^!!!! I can't believe we lost the #$##$@$ game ... son of a #$##$% we can't go out there with that kinda effort and expect to win . Then you win 35-3 the next week .

Carr better have learned how to read a defense in the offseason if he thinks he's going to beat out Delhomme.
