Hey look! Another one!

Yaters Gonna Yate.
Yes, fellow Texans, I bring to you the umptillionth Carr thread. This time, it deals with his back-up position in Carolina and obvious smack talking of us.

1. David Carr, Carolina

This could wind up being one of the best off-season acquisitions. In 2002, Carr was the first pick of the draft. Five years later, Carolina signs him as a free agent. Wow. If the guy is anything close to what Houston envisioned five years ago, the Panthers can send Bob McNair a thank-you note. What I like about Carr is that he has a strong arm, hangs tough in the pocket and is resilient. What I don't like is that he hasn't won or put up big numbers. But as one scout said, "You can't blame him for the system. The poor guy got killed in Houston. Hey, David Carr hasn't forgotten how to play football."

Roger and out. When the Texans assembled their franchise, they forgot that offensive lines were meant to protect quarterbacks. Instead, they called together a bunch of matadors, lined them up for the next set of bull rushers and -- Ole! Just like that -- Carr went from quarterback to tackling dummy. In five years, he was sacked 249 times, including an NFL-record 76 in 2002 and 68 in 2005. Maybe that had an irreparable impact on the guy, I don't know. What I do know is I'd like to find out. So Carr is in Carolina where the offensive line is better and where he can sit behind Jake Delhomme, catch his breath and not worry about being the franchise quarterback. My guess? This is Carolina's future starter.

David who???

No disrespect to David, but unless the QB's first name is Matt, Sage, Bradlee, or Jared, I really could care less.

Without commenting on a named person I will comment on the reporting. I put this in another thread regarding sports radio. I was driving back from Austin with my wife this past weekend and was trying to find some British Open playoff updates. I found ESPNs Austin affiliate and they had these two college and pro football guys talking. They were both ex-players. Anyways, Carr in Carolina and Harrington in Atlanta came up. They were horrible. I mean the minute Carr came up they said, "well he might have a shot because he really never had a chance in Houston." They pretty much made 10 jokes about, "how can you do well with a LB, a D-lineman and a safety draped on you." Did anyone outside of this town actually watch the games or out any effort into really looking at the team?I'm still waiting for the "bring back Couch" rants since he was in the same position:gun:

Future starter? As in when Jake Delhomme deceides to hang up the cleats or possibly gets injured?

Seriously why do people hose the guy? Last year was his first down year as a starter for the Panthers and out of the gate he was missing the critical piece that made that offense go in Steve Smith. Smith is healthy this year. DeAngelo will be healthy this year, Deshaum Foster should be ready to go. They prolly will also be incoporatin Dwayne Jarrett in the offense pretty quickly and he at least on paper looks like an ideal receiver opposite of Smith. Might not be an explosive offense but i am willing to bet they'll be in the top half and that's all they need to do with the defense they have.

Honestly I hope HWWNBN finds a measure of success in the NFL long as he's not playing the Texans. But if any sports writer thinks he's going to step in light it up and take Jake's job this or next year is quite frankly DELUSIONAL.

I'd also like to point out the similarities of Delhomme and Schaub. At the end of the 2002 season the Panthers sign FA Jake Delhomme of the NO saints. Since taking the reigns :

Year Team G GS Att Comp Pct Yds YPA Lg TD Int Tkld 20+ 40+ Rate

TOTAL 67 62 1934 1151 59.5 13965 7.22 80 92 63 112/837 186 40 84.0

While not traded i think if we get the production Delhomme has had his first 3 years 2 2nds looks like a steal.I'm sure Fox and that staff has their work cut out for them. Also if Delhomme isn't injured last year and has Steve Smith out of the gates he puts together prolly his best statisitical season.

I think some people think Jake Delhomme 'over achieved' for a number of years and that last season was more indicative of Jake's talent level... Just a thought.

Carr is a good QB, the Texans line was **** when he was here.

You dumb asses don't understand that Schaub will be AS BAD as Carr or even worse.

You idiots will be CRYING when Carr leads the Panthers to the playoffs and Schaub throws 18 INTs gets sacked 50 times and leads the Texans to a 4 win season.

For the last 5 seasons he would have been the guy under the D-lineman after each snap for the Texans. He is also best know for resetting the trash cans the Texans have used for an O-line over that period of time and his fancy hair.

Those 'trash cans' allowed him to pass for 3500 yards and block for a 1000 yard rusher in 2004, so it's not all on the line for five years. Sucking took a team effort in 2005.

And I do believe that his question was rhetorical in nature....I'd say obviously, but perhaps not for some.

I believe you guys when you discuss Carr's faults.

One common ground we have as Texans & Titans fans is being small market teams not well known nationally. No one knows a team as well as it's own fans & it grates on us when an analyst who clearly has no clue makes a comment on where we're at.

No matter what you think of Carr there are still coaches who think they can fix him. I like Delhome but the Panthers believe they are contenders & any hiccup's this year will likely see Carr get his shot.

If he's a success I dare say most Texans fans wouldn't care less but it would make for an interesting debate.

The only difference between coach's and casual fan's opinions is the reasoning behind them...

NFL people are just as split about Carr as the fans...

if Carr is a success , fans will say it isn't because of him it is of the talent around him.

we been through that.
