The Old Boards!

WTF?? Paging Vinny, Paging Vinny to the white courtesy phone....

Did they just give up & go back to VBulletin or what?

I tried to login. I guess you have to re-register.

Well, I logged in on the main website, and they took "boards" off for now. I guess they are still forwarding everything over. If they were going to switch back to that, why did they even go with those dumb boards in the first place?

Turns out my profile is still there. I just had to change my password.

Good to know that they improved the board, but I'm cool here.

yep, pretty much.

The front office heard the voice of fans and decided to override a corporate decision. Power to the people!

All the cool people are at TexansTalk, tho'. :fans:

they just made a bad mistake- i liken it to the old regime releasing sharper and glenn... thinking they could upgrade without realising how good they had it, only they've undid that mistake now..... /rant

edit: ugh 10 posts a page, i think il stay here- this has a nice number of members and quality posters

Exactly. I don't think I will be going back though. I already feel right at home here. They made a big mistake over there.

It seems like official NFL boards are pretty lame in general. Lots of flame wars, trolls, and people that just don't write very well.

It's nice to know that I can go back there if I want, but I don't see much of a reason. Almost everybody that I really like to read is over here anyway.

Big thanks to Nick on this one and I'm not sure he really enjoyed the last transition of webmasters either. A few things were broke in the move but the good news is that the new webmasters listen, and Nick has a genuine interest in pleasing the fans. vbulletin produces a really powerful and dynamic commercial grade message board software that is easy for the end user and easy to administrate regardless of the forum size....long run it's going to be a win/win for all the fans. The official site will be more of a catch all for all the fans since it is on the official site and will tend to 'surge' more often. imo, HPF and Texanstalk are both in position to flourish as private forums since the communities are a little tighter and a higher % of the fans have actually met. I think with all the blogging sites and with all 3 of the main community message boards all revised we are as overhauled as the Texans offense with Green and Schaub in 07.

I registared again and got my old name back because I don't want anyone else using it on a Texans Board. But, I think I'll be staying over here now.

ooh all very socialist :gathering:

Glad they made the decision as I will now call in there more often. I know some people will stick here but I'm going to flit between here, there and my own board.

i'm perfectly fine staying right here...i just want a new username

Ask a mod, they switched me from my previous user name. As for the other site, I may log in to keep my name over there, but I'll use that more as my alternate source of info. Like others, I'm liking this house.

Thanks again to the original TTr's for welcoming their HT relos.

It has been about 2 weeks since I visited there; guess my feelings were hurt when they did not listen to the fans. It just never felt the same since the original change, you know? That's the problem with losing fans. You take the risk of never getting them back.

It's so strange. I sent the request for my password and never got it. :(

IMPOSTOR!

That's weird. While my password no longer worked, when I requested it be reset, I got an e-mail instantly. I'd try it again. Since you enter your e-mail address, and that's where they send it, I don't know how it would go somewhere else.

Thanks for the support of those that are planning on sticking around here. Since this board is run by us fans and not by a corporate entity we don't have to worry about it going away or changing as long as the fans are happy and want it to stay the way it is. I too posted a lot on the main board before however have no plans or need to go back as long as the majority of quality posters stay here.

BTW, I'll be back in the states on Sunday just in time for preseason to start. I'll be more active when I am back, I have limited internet access over here.

Thank you for your support, Hookem! This place wouldn't exist without you, and speaking for myself, I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate you opening the doors and inviting us all in.

I think there will be a place for both forums. TexansTalk has a very mature fan base, even to the point of being able to support a 'smack' forum for jabbing at/with rival fans. But it takes some maturity on the part of posters to allow that kind of interchange to happen, because many times internet arguments just devolve into flame wars.

The official board would never work with a smack forum, and due to the constant influx of new members through the official team site, the forum must be heavily policed to enforce the rules and keep it from becoming a pile of spam mush. I can't even begin to tell you how many posts/threads were deleted at the old boards, and how many posters had to be banned because of it. And being that it is owned by the team, there has to be tighter modding to protect their interests.

So I think there is a place in Texansland for both. Like Vinny mentioned, many folks over here know each other, and we tailgate together and have a great community that continues to grow. We are friends at the local neighborhood Cheers bar. The official site will be more of a sports bar, where people don't necessarily know each other as well, so the internet posturing is much more evident.
