Steve Slaton?

The Texans need this guy. No Reggie. No AD. For the love of Allah get Slaton!

Probably be past over for a Defensive Lineman.:devilpig:

The Texans did not pass on Peterson, but hey facts are not important when trying to be sarcastic right?

I hope the Texans are picking way after this guy is drafted, because it means they had a good season. To hell with next years draft, I want the season to start.

I'm sure we'll have our Choices between McFadden, Ray Rice and Steve Slaton.

Given the Choice, McFadden has the talent level to be the next LT. Had an mazing year last year but this year there's going to be targets on him.

Darkhorse will be Mike Hart... if they all come out early next year could be an amazing year to pick up a RB.

I'll take a playmaker over a lazy combine warrior that is stupid enough to let a groupie film him breaking the law, stupid enough to wear a tank top while representing his team on a national formal interview, and who has a pass rush technique inferior to most high school juniors.

Call me crazy.

People that think Mario is on the same level as Reggie either don't understand football, or are stupid homers that refuse to face reality.

Not that Reggie hasn't done anything illegal himself or isn't allowed at USC games oh wait. As for Reggie ,as phenominal an athlete he is, he really landed in a perfect situation where he wasn't expected to carry a full load, they didn't often ask him to run between the tackles for tough yards(everytime i saw him take it between the tackles he got lit) and was surrounded by a good offense. While he wouldn't have been a major bust here i just don't see him suceeding on a high level that he'd be used to here. His taunts against the bears fired that defense up too and cost them.

For all the talk AP will be good but he wasn't there at 10 or wouldn't have been at 8 either and the way this team has been the past few years to move up one spot to Minnesota's place would've taken a third prolly. We need ALL the draft picks we can get and did wise not to move up.

Like i said assuming going RB is what we're looking at first round next year IMO it'll be a bumper crop to choose from. Explosive offenses are nice and smothering defenses are fun to watch as well. But consistancy on both sides of the ball usually is what wins championships. Unfortunately due to past personnel and coaching moves we're lacking on both sides far as talent is concerned.

This past offseason we've done what we could to correct the matter and it should be of some significance that the Staffthat was brought in took a 2-14 team and tripled the win total and almost pulled out a few other games. That's all lost in the hype though. Not saing we should be satisfied but encouraged that we're making good personnel moves finally, have a morethen competant coaching staff that can set game plan forward and put the players in a position to succeed(big difference from the ol Capers "lack of execution")

Unfortunately the first two picks of the past two drafts have been at tough positions that may take time to develop. Mario still did a heck of job running on one wheel and i expect bigger things from him this year and i think he'll be the primary beneficiary of drafting Amobi. I know it wasn'ta completely popular pick but the upside on this kid is through the ceiling.

I know is frustrating when you want this team to succeed terribly and are tired of being at the bottom of the league. Digging yourself into a hole doesn't take a day but neitehr does digging yourself out. We'll field a competetive team this year i believe especially if our overall talent pool has been upgraded via the draft, smart frugal FA signings(given our cap situation, and even addition by subtraction. If we can put a few things together and getthingsh eaded in the right direction we'll have cap space next season and Rick smith seems smart enough to not put us in cap hell again.

Sorry fellas, but I too think we should have drafted Reggie...

I love Mario and think he's going to be a really good player, but I just can't honestly sit here and say that I think Mario was/is going to be the better player....

Yes but you are not crying like a 4 year old girl who got her dress dirty now are you. You do not bring it up in almost every single one of you post now do you?

I understand some wanted bush, some wanted vy, some wanted to trade down, but don't you think it is time to stp pitching a freakin fit already? Either that or go root for another team for crying out loud.

Personnaly, I am sick of hearing about it.

how in gods name did we get this far off topic.

Slaton would solve everything. a trio of Slaton Green and Dayne whould give us an unstopable run game.

Simple.... Slaton is a running back. Running back discussions (here) always revert to that receiver guy in New Orleans.

But the floor is yours to get back onto Slaton.

Steve Slaton = Reggie Bush with vision. I'll take him or Ray Rice, either would make my day.

What about McFadden, if we are in the position to take him? We probably wont, but it is possible. My list of runningbacks that I want (in order) goes like this: McFadden, Slaton, Rice, Felix Jones, then Hart. Felix Jones may be a suprise up there, but he can do so much.

Are you saying Reggie doesn't have vision ?

We are saying exactly preciesly what we've been saying and was proven true last year BTW, the guy is soft between the tackles, he can't block, and unless he has a high end guy to support him....he can not, will not .....ever, no matter how you spin it, be a front line twenty plus carry a game running back in the NFL. Didn't happen last year. Won't happen this year. Isn't ever going to happen. Want the team on the ESPN highlight reels, take the guy. Want to go to a super bowl you pass on him. Let it go. The Texans did the correct thing in the 2006 draft. Wanna buy the jersey be my guest. You're wrong if you think other wise and you really need to let it go. They did the correct thing.

Which makes it ironic that RB talk in houston always comes back to a WR in N.O... He would solve our #2 wr problem, but nothing eles.

Ok, here is a quick RB breakdown for you kids.

McFadden will not be around where we pick unless we throw the season. He is a top 3 lock. Wishing and hoping and slotting him for us in mock drafts won't change it. Accept it and move on. The kid is an exceptional talent and a good character as well. He won't be at LT's level, but he won't be far off IMO. He is a great all around back.

Slaton was a favorite of mine last year. He has great speed and quick cuts. However, he has injury concerns and isn't that big. He needs to simply get bigger to be considered a true NFL back at this point. He has a lot of potential in terms of his talent level and what he can do on the field, but the NFL isn't the Big East. He has a lot of hype that comes along with White as well, but he isn't worth the hype yet. I've studdied a lot of his film already. Take it for what you will, but my reputation with grading prospects well in advance should speak for itself. I've called a lot of prospects early and turned many of you onto quite a few names. Don't get so caught up in Slaton just yet.

Mike Hart has a great attitude and heart, but he isn't all that talented. He is undersized by any proportion and is blessed to play for a top national team. He has good speed and lateral quickness, but he isn't a game breaking back or a feature back for the NFL. He is a solid back with a lot of name recognition going into this year on a great team. He can do some things when given the right chances, but he is a second round talent in terms of projecting him to the NFL. He just doesn't have it. Good kid though.

The kid that Texan fans need to be watching is Felix Jones. On any team besides Arkansas, he would be a national name and ahead of some of the above guys. He has legit size, great speed, and great vision. He isn't quite the dancer that McFadden is, but I feel their speed is equal. Jones gets down the field quicker though. He has a great burst and runs with good power for his size. Both he and McFadden will be great NFL backs, and both will come with less wear than a normal back. Felix Jones is a first round talent that has been overlooked in sorts. His name will float around a lot this season as he plays, and will probally have a lot of hype heading into the draft. While McFadden is a top 3 lock, Jones should still go first round. I mention Jones because we won't have a top 3 pick (knocks on wood) and we don't want a scatback type RB. Green will prove to not be the answer shortly into the season, and we will be back to square one entering the draft. While I support going DB or one of the STUD LB's in the first, I won't be upset with Jones who should fall into the range of the Texans.

Because something comes out of peete's mouth doesn't make it true.

Your little mini-rant aside, what does this have to do with anything I previously said ?

Green will prove to not be the answer shortly into the season, and we will be back to square one entering the draft.

What exactly do you mean by this statement ?

Are you saying Green will immediately flop ? or are you saying that he isn't the 'long-term' solution ?

To me it sounds like you're saying he will immediately flop because if you were suggesting option #2 the obvious retort is: "duhh"

But assuming you are suggesting he will not be a good running back for us this year I'm going to disagree. I think if Green stays healthy he's easily the best back we've ever had....

Our back of the future is on the team roster now. Just need a few games to figure out whom.

If this is the case, our team will never break .500

Taylor is the closest thing to a potential feature back we have, and he will be lucky to make 3rd string. He also needs A LOT of work and polish around the edges.

I'm saying that expecting 1000 yards out of him is too much. I'm looking for about 3.6 ypc with maybe 6 touchdowns. I don't expect any long runs from him at all, and I don't think he has the talent or wheels to turn the corner. I think the zone blocking scheme will hide this to an extent, but we have to be realistic. I don't expect Green to be in everyones good graces by midway through the season. I'm not expecting bust, but I'm not expecting what we paid either. I'm expecting a back who is league average or slightly below, and clearly aging.

Maybe you aren't clear on what leauge average is...

I think out of 32 teams only 5 or 6 (if that many) didn't have a back that broke 1,00 yards...

Supposedly we aren't going to be running a lot of pure zone stuff either..

Green had over 1,000 yards last year in GB with 2 rookies at the guards and a second year, first time starter at center...Not to mention he was just coming back from a major injury...

Me thinks Green easily eclipses the 1,000 yard mark this year if he's healthy...

If he doesn't make 1,000 yard as you predict that would not be considered average...that'd be well below average, especially for a back of Ahmans caliber..

I don't expect him to get as many carries as he did in GB. He may eclips 1000, but it won't be in great fashion. I don't look for anything more out of our running game this year. Green is not a top calibur back, he never really was, and certinally isn't anymore.

What's your opinion on Ray Rice?

What's your opinion on Ray Rice?

I knew I left some people off that list. Him, the OK RB, and the kid from oregon.

Personally I love Rice. I think he is an awesome talent. He has GREAT speed and ability to hit the hole fast. He is a handful in the open field. However, he will be lucky to be a first rounder because he is extremely undersized. He has good numbers, but he is just so small. There will be a lot of questions about his blocking and ability to get through traffic or shed a tackle. I haven't watch a whole lot of film on him to this point because I know his size will hinder him a lot. I will watch more obviously, but as of right now, I love the kid and all, but don't project him as much more than a change of pace/scat back type player in the future.

Jones-Drew was supposed to be too small as well as Warrick Dunn. I think a guy like Garrett Wolfe could make a splash this year in Chicago and from what i've read and seen about Ray Rice i wouldn't count him out.

Jones-Drew is built like a tank. He was short, not really small. Wolfe is like 170 pounds, and probably wont do much. Rice weighs 200 pounds, small but maybe not too small.

I love the scat backs if they are used properly. Jones drew is like 225 or so. He is an animal. Rice isn't like that. He is a true scat back.

If we start the season miserablly, we better sort-of "lay back" shall we say and let Darren McFadden fall into our laps. If thats the case this is what we will have.

A Top 5 NFL Wide Reiecever

A Top 5 Defensive Line in the making

A Possible Top 10 QB

A Possible Top 10 Running Back

A possible pro-bowl caliber linebacker in Ryans.

McFadden could complete our championship puzzle and have a trophy land in Houston in 3-5 years.

We would have to fall back damn far to get McFadden. If he stays healthy, he is a top 3 lock, and the legit favorite for #1 overall. Sure Brohm or someone may take #1, but we shouldn't be able to land him. I do not support throwing games. It is bad for the sport and everyone involved including the fans. We want a winning tradition.

And that starts with a franchise running back. We already have the receiver, DT and DE.

We may have a good QB or a crap QB.

We have no long-term back.

A winning tradition won't be happening anytime soon with Manning in the division. Or teams like Denver, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville and the Jets fighting for wild-cards.

Yes we need a running back. But Jones and Slaton are good enough to be franchise runningbacks, just not the way McFadden is. And Manning can be defeated, the Patriots have shown the blue-print.

Throwing a season in no ways encourages a winning season. Striking it rich by following YoungTexanFan's draft day advice will lead us to a winning season. :)

The Texans aren't even good enough to share the same stadium as the Pats at this point in time.

Thats not the point. I was just responding to your point about not being able to have a winning tradition with Manning around. Teams have beaten him before

I agree, but your talking about teams that are light years ahead of us, in both coaching and player personnel.
