Turley?

and Turley went ...well, Turley on him.

That's a good one. I don't know what I like better, "hope you don't get Munsoned," or "he went Turley on that guy."

Looks like another case of 'roid rage to me.

Speaking of Martz, it's pretty clear he's toast after the season. If so, I wonder if the Texans would bring Martz in as a Jim Fassel type consultant? Martz was with the Skins as a QB coach in '97 & '98. Don't know what kind of relationship he had with Casserly back then.

Martz would be good as long as he doesn't call he plays or doesn't have more control than at the offensive coordinator level. He is good on game day. just thats it.

I was watching one of the football shows on ESPN earlier today and they said that all of the big wigs in the Rams front office love Martz and he is going nowhere. On the other hand, they also commented and sai they do not think Turley will play another snap with the Rams... :hmmm: I know it's just the guys from ESPN talking but is still something to think about. I don't know about bringing Martz in anyway, I think he has lost his marbles.

There's only one bigwig in the Rams front office larger then Martz, and that's team president John Shaw. The other "bigwigs", like director of pro football operations Jay Zygmunt & GM Charley Armey, defer to Martz in all football decisions. Maybe the guys at ESPN should get their stories straight. It was Chris Mortensen who broke the Martz firing rumor last week. A guy a little closer to the Rams situation than the ESPN jocks, STL Post-Dispatch's Bernie Miklasz, has this to say about the Rams front office lovefest:

The Rams have a dysfunctional front office, contaminated by distrust and paranoia.

The Zygmunt-Martz relationship, once so warm, has turned cold. Armey is out of the loop; his authority has been reduced to that of a glorified scout. The three wise men spend too much time worrying about what the others are saying, and doing, behind the scenes.

No wonder the Rams are misfiring on draft picks and free-agent signings; the football brains of the organization are distracted by the increasingly contentious inter-office chess match to determine who will be left standing as king. When Zygmunt, Armey and Martz are working in harmony, dedicated to a common goal, they can construct a good football team. But this collision of egos is doing too much damage.
It's quite possible that Martz will quit if Shaw strips him of his defacto GM powers. Shaw could just look at the number of PSLs being returned by fans and realize he has no choice but to fire Martz in order to stop the bleeding. Really, wasn't owner Georgia Frontiere's "vote of confidence" last week the last nail in Martz's coffin? The Turley incident is akin to jumping on his grave.

The reason I mentioned bringing Martz in is his record of developing QBs. The Kurt Warner story is well documented, but he's also done great jobs with Trent Green & Marc Bulger. Martz has never had an opportunity to work with a talent like David Carr. And Martz was a huge fan of Carr going back to the '02 draft. Again, I don't know what Casserly thinks of him. Just thinking aloud that Carr might benefit from watching film with a guy like Martz.

My thought on the whole situation is if Turley doesn't want to play for the Rams, do we take a shot, go after him, and put him in at LT or am I crazy for thinking this?

All Turleyt does is play hard and just wants some respect. If you remember Kyle played half a season last year with a displaced vertibra. You put yourself in his shoes and imagine someone telling you you're stealing money because you can't play because you had back surgery. Martz is a flake anyway and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he made this **** up about turley threatening him.

"hope you don't get Munsoned,"

The Tigers have a 3rd basemen (well right now they do) named Eric Munson, and there have been a few times this year to use that Gem of a line.

This is irrelevant to the conversation, but I think Kyle Turley is only saying the same thing fans in St Louis have been saying for 2 years.

If Turley did become available... i'd take a shot at him.. he was a pretty good Tackle with the saints

The guy is coming off an injury that threatened his career. We already have our RT anyway.

That's what my thought was, would it be worth trying him at LT...

I think he might be able to do a better job than Seth Wand is doing right now.

Turley gave up 13.5 sacks and had 8 penalties when he tried to play LT in NO in his 5th year in the league. Wand has given up 11.5 sacks and 3 penalties in his 1st year of play. The grass is not always greener.

And stats only tell part of the story.

Aaron Brooks is a scrambling QB, your tackles are going to get more sacks on them because of that. Turley was a great Tackle before his injury. Right now it would be risky for you.

Martz claimed that Turley threatend to kill him when they argued from what I understand. Martz told him that he was "stealing money" as an injured player and Turley went ...well, Turley on him.

How Mike Martz ever became a Head Coach in the NFL is beyond me...

I used to think he was a good O coordinator at least but after this season, not anymore. I honestly think the guy has lost his marbles. Why in the world he would call so many pass plays with the 2 RB's he has is beyond me.

I think the addition of someone like Turley could help us on a couple levels. IF HE PASSES AN INCREDIBLY IN-DEPTH PHYSICAL...(don't want to get Boselli'ed again!) he be an upgrade for Wand. That would allow us to try different combinations of players at the LT thru C positions and come up with a mix that we like. Turley has a well deserved reputation as a tough guy, he is known for protecting his QB like he was one of his kids and laying the big smash on punks like Marcus Stroud who take cheap shots. I think he would inject some much needed attitude into the O-line and having him and Wade bookends for Carr would be great.

If he is medically OK then his up side for the franchise is way better than his down side.

Looks like Turley is a long way from getting back on the field.

Turley's playing weight is listed as 309 pounds, about average for an NFL offensive lineman, but he has shrunk to about 240 pounds since the injury. He said in August that he lost about 30 pounds due to forced inactivity following the surgery.

That's a lot of weight to gain back...without help. We may have seen the last of Mr. Turley.

i dont thin that for an O-lineman thats been around as long as he has it will be that hard to put on the weight. If he went through a whole NFL offseason trying to gain back the weight I dont think he would have a problem trying to do it.

The Texans would play with 10 players before they would pick up that selfish, egotistical, roided out maniac. This is just another case of "player x is available -- let's go get him now." Get ready because unfortunately it will be like this for the next three months.

Give Wand a chance...he's basically a rookie, played very little his 1 year. I know he got lots of bad publicity after the colts game in indy...but did any of you see what that guy from indy (Frenny or whatever hisname is) did to ogden of the ravens? Ogden didn't looked any better than wand.
