Hotel within walking distance of the stadium

Greetings everyone,

We are planning on flying down for a Texans home game this year:texflag: and are looking for advice on a good hotel to stay in. We would like the hotel to be within 1/2 mile walking distance. All suggestions are welcome and thank you in advance.

Personally, I'd rather stay downtown and either lightrail or cab it back and forth. There's more stuff to do downtown than near the stadium. IIRC, Magnolia Hotel is nearish the lightrail. I stayed there before at a decent weekend rate.

That's definitely your best bet

yep. My suggestion, as well. :thumbup

Yeah, the 2 or 3 hotels near Reliant are in ghetto central. And the rail from downtown is only $1 per person per trip :)

Yeah, definitley stay downtown and take a 15 minuite train ride right to the stadium.

Way more things to do.

Setting aside the convenience of lightrail transportation to Reliant, isn't the Galleria area a better place to spend a weekend in Houston than Downtown ?

Personally, I like downtown better now. Everything in the galleria area is not really walking distance, like it is downtown.

Plus, if they time it right and early enough, they could catch a ballgame at Minutemaid Park.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. We are so looking forward to coming down. What time do the tailgating parties start? And what would the suggestions for items to bring be? I will have a Redskin and Bear's fan in tow. Thanks again to everyone.

If a Rockets or Astros game are of no interest, how could shopping and restaurants be any more convenient than say the Westin Inn or Westin Oaks, which virtually have lobbys that are within the best or one of the best shopping malls in the whole state, the whole region ? And just take a cab to Reliant if you want the NFL, much less hassle than rail.
IMO much more appealing than downtown.

Platinum lot, 0700! Look for the Blue Crew, front left corner, next to Kirby. A VERY large group of crazies, most of which post on this MB, SOOOOO you will get a chance to meet a lot of diehard fans. YELLOW, BLUE, and ORANGE are also well represented here. If you decide to walk the lots, start early. It's quiet a distance between the four main lots. PLATINUM is the only lot that opens at 0700, the others open at 0800.

You don't have to bring anything to the Blue Crew. Being from out of state, it would be hard for you to drag a cooler of BUD around! lol Just let us know if you plan to attend our tailgate, what your fav brew is, and I will be more than happy to bring it for you. I enjoy helping out our traveling TEXANS, and their quest! I still have can's of BUD in my refrig from last year!

I think the gates to the stadium open at 1030. If this is your first visit to Reliant allow yourself time to experience the feel of our great stadium. There's pubs and cantina's inside the stadium that provide a terrific place to cool off, and find your favorite brew. REMEMBER, it's hotter than hell on those parking lots from Sept to Dec. BE PREPARED!! Most of all, show up inside the stadium by 1130 so you can help welcome our team when they run on field. Watch the big jumbo screen before the game starts, one of the best parts of the day!!! DON'T miss anything! I have a feeling the energy inside Reliant this year will be more than electrifying!! I can't wait!!

Is there tailgating during the pre-season (Aug 11) Chicago @ Houston?

What would be the top 3 games to attend for the best experience?

Holiday inn Astrodome
This is the only hotel i stay at for the games because its on the grounds of Reliant stadium with their own private walkway to the stadium....Can't get any closer then this...Oh and if you stay there, when you check in ask for a room overlooking Reliant Stadium, its is absolutely breathtaking at nite...

Its just never the same during the preseason... much like the games themselves. The best games this year as far as experience wise imo would be.... of course the first game against KC. There is nothing like the kickoff after being deprived from Football for months. The Titans, Saints, and the national televised game against Denver would all be good bets as well.

DEFINITELY stay downtown and take the lightrail to the stadium BRIGHT AND EARLY. You dont want to stay near the stadium itself... unless you are strictly flying in late Sat and leaving directly after the game. The blue lot is the best tailgating imo... I CANT WAIT.
