Bookend Defense

Tedc

Hardheaded
With the addition of Okoye, Mario Williams over his injury, and Ryans in the middle, this defense should rock!

I like the nickname, Bookend Defense.:d:

The Dirty South D. Regardless of our nicknames our front seven should be one of the best on paper.

We need Weaver to be healthy as well and will be interesting to see if Wong is back. If TJ does anything it will be gravy.

Yeah, is it too much to ask Travis Johnson to play up to his 1st round selection status or will he always be mediocre?

I dont know about TJ but it seems like if theres anything that can light a fire under his ass, its the prospect of him getting cut VERY soon.

nothing quite like having someone with their back to the wall.

I think Carrbage takes the cake on that one. Babin a close 2nd for costing us half the 2004 draft.
Babin only displaced one first day pick. We started that draft with 3 first day picks and with Babin we ended up with 2 first day picks...and the Titans didn't do much with the picks they got anyway.

TJ going to back up Okoye at the 3 technique

I guess I'm just a trade down kind of guy. Last year, I wanted the Texans to trade down, and I wanted the same this year, as I felt we just had too many holes to fill, and these couldn't be addressed with the number of picks we have. Looking at it in another fashion though, I've come to the conclusion that this will be a longer term process than most of us have the patience for. But, lets not forget we still have those June 1st cuts to pick through, and also training camp cuts. We can still find some quality depth to fill positions we lack in. Can it be completely solved? No, but we can make major strides in a lot of areas. We've addressed many deficiencies already, and I believe enough in our FO and Head Coach to feel we are at the very least on the right track. Optimism can be difficult when you are a fan of the Texans, but lets not lump this new group of leaders into the past group. It could be worse, we're not the Oakland Raiders or the Detroit Lions :)

Hey did we forget about Dunta...he has no help back their. We need a CB or S in the 4th.

Maybe Travis can play better or hold his ground with Mario, Okoye, and Weaver playing alongside of him... if not oh well all hope is lost.

About our LBs...man D'Meco held that down by himself a year ago.

Secondary still is 25% done though.

To expand on Vinny's point, Omobi is a 3-technique, meaning he's the DT that plays the outside shoulder of the strong side offensive guard. In our base 4-3, Mario and Omobi will line up next to each other and they will not be 'bookends.'

I hope that will be as scary as it sounds.

Have you heard anything on Weaver's recovery this off season?

watching Okoye... they say he is a disrupter and can penetrate. my stupid question of the day is . would it be good to have him and mario on the same side of the line or have one on on strongside and one on weakside?

of course that is assuming Mario will be in one spot ,but I do figure they will move him around

Red rover red rover just try and come over......to our side.:ouch:

Agreed. Hope he plays up to it this year and uses all the agression on the other team. At least on paper right now it looks like our front four should be able to get regular pressure on the QB. IF(big IF) that happens...would could seea lot of things open up for this defense. Will be interesting to see if how soon Bennett pushes for PT and to have someone solid across from Dunta.
