Oklahoma RB re-injured his collarbone in Fiesta Bowl?

"Because of him re-injuring it in the bowl game, it's not as far along as it should be, it's not healed," said a team executive. "He lost three months with the re-injury. The question is, will it be healed enough to take a hit. Or will he hurt it again, the way [ex-Detroit receiver Charles Rogers] kept doing.

Oh great! I've had deep concerns over this guy's health since day one, and now I'm seeing the name Charles Rogers pop up?

:panic:

A high-level source on one team said the evaluation of his team's medical staff was that Peterson will require a surgical procedure, which would delay his availability at the start of training camp and perhaps longer. That team estimated Peterson would be sidelined after the procedure for "two or three months." That would likely mean Peterson would miss the entire offseason workouts of the team that drafted him and make him questionable for the early part of the preseason.

Wow....I wouldn't use a top 10 pick on him. It doesn't matter how good he is if he's fragile.

Wow....this changes a lot. I'm actually excited now about Saturday.

Now I know this, I think that he'll fall to 10 and we'd be stupid not to take him there. To pass on him at 10 would be almost as bad as passing on last year's QB class.

How many RB's have you guys heard of who had career-ending collarbone injuries?

When I saw that he was playing in the Fiesta Bowl, I thought that it was too soon for him to play again. We were told it was a season-ending injury. He still came in and averaged 4.4 yards and scored 2 touchdowns. One of those TDs was for 25 yards in OT probably after he was re-injured.

Who cares if he can't participate in OTA's? We probably wouldn't need him until mid-season anyway.

One can only hope its not that big of a deal, or we are going to hear.......
The Texans passed on Vince, Reggie and drafted a broken RB what are they thinking?:texflag:

I thought the same. The risk way out weighed the reward.

I wonder what team(s) leaked the info.

Great news as it possibly gets us past Cleveland. Ahman Green is starting next year which will give Peterson time to heal and learn on the sidelines anyway.

Well, (shaking my head) either I'm being delusional in thinking that there is no way in hell Kubiak/Smith takes Peterson if he falls to #10 . . .

. . . or some of the rest of you are being delusional if you think that Kubiak/Smith will take a running back, any running back, that has injury/durability issues, especially considering the injury issues that he had to deal with last season regarding another running back.

I just don't see them doing that.

For those of you who want them to take Peterson is he falls to #10, you're lying to yourselves if you're not the least bit concerned about it.

The only upside is that we don't have to rush and start Peterson, thanks to the Green signing. If he needs surgery and has to sit for a while, and then only gets about 10 touches a game during the back half of the season there's nothin wrong with that. Then come next season he's healthy, over some of the rookie issues (the wall and the transition to pro life), and will be able to start all the off season stuff as a starter.

Then again, it could a chronic injury. Here's to hoping that the Texans Medical staff knows what they're doing.

On a second note when, at what point during the game, did Peterson re-injury the shoulder?

When I heard about this last night, I thought Charles Rogers right away. Boy, do we have a dilemma if he falls to 10 or what?

On one hand, how do you pass up a stud franchise RB who, if healthy, could take your offense to a whole new level like a Sean Alexander, LT etc.

On the other hand, how do you take a guy who keeps getting hurt and now has injured his collarbone twice? He may just be a snake bitten guy who keeps getting dinged up and never sees the field for a whole season, and has a short career. How do you waste a top 10 pick on someone like that?

Talk about damned if you do and damned if you don't. Either way, this really opens the Texans up to some major second guessing.....again. :gun:

"Injury prone" is an overstatement.

He's only been injured twice. The first one was a high ankle sprain that he played through all year. He still racked up 1195 yards and scored 20 TD's.

I don't think that the current injury will be a big deal if he's given time to heal. He wasn't even supposed to be playing in the Fiesta Bowl. He came back too early and got re-injured. Happens all the time.

Here was my take on the other board too

If this is true it is FAR from good news. Whether we need the guy or not, some other teams below us might "need" him and be willing to move up. He is a stud commodity. The better the players that drop out of need of other teams, the better hand we hold. I'd rather the guy be in tip top shape. I know what you are saying..that it scares some teams off so he comes to us but this goes both ways

AP is on the cover of SI this week. The week of the draft always brings out "dark secrets" days before the draft. This is business as usual.

I am not a big fan of drafting Peterson in the first place but .........

Could this be a team leaking this and trying to get him to fall so they can take him? Like that has never been done before.

We won't be at 10 if the Deal with Denver goes through. There is no way Kubiak and Smith will take a broken back. Just look at the press release from yesterday. Smith said we are planning as if Spencer will not be back. What makes you think our FO wants to spend a 1st round pick on an injured player? We will trade down with Denver and take Staley at 21 plus have a second and extra third round pick.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that running back Adrian Peterson says that he won't miss any time due to a collarbone that he re-injured during the Fiesta Bowl.

Per Schefter, Peterson says that he'll be able to fully participate in all offseason activities.

With that said, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Peterson's agent, Ben Dogra, concedes that Peterson might need surgery, which would knock him out of all offseason workouts.

Dogra says that the team that drafts Peterson will have to decide whether a plate should be surgically inserted into the site of the injury.

"It's not a foregone that he'll need the surgery," said Dogra. "It's only if their doctor thinks he requires it. That's why it hasn't happened yet. If they do plate it, doctors have assured us that he'll have only 4-6 weeks of down time, meaning that if he has it in May, he'll be back in time for camp.

At least one team with whom we spoke (but who won't be drafting Peterson) thinks that surgery is not necessary. The key question is whether the Browns think the plate is needed and, if so, whether that's enough to get them to look elsewhere with the No. 3 overall pick.

Let the disinformation continue.

I think because we are the Texans, everyone is going to talk smack about who we pick. People have issues with us trading for Matt Schaub, but they also would have laughed if would have kept Carr. If we stay at 10 or trade down we will be idiots either way and if we took Peterson or pased on him we would be idiots either way, according to some. I have learned we can look at any team and see draft busts and poor choices, we have just done it on a bigger scale and more recently. We are still like the new step-brother of the NFL and the naysayers will have a field day whatever we decide, unless Calvin Johnson or Joe Thomas fell to us (like that would happen). I guess what I am saying is you can't please everyone and someone will have issues what ever we decide, but I have faith and just listen closely to the sweet scilence of the critics when we start winning!

According to Lance Z, the Texans doctors have cleared Adrian Peterson. He is going to be checking a couple of sources with other nfl teams tonight to try and get a consensus, but as for the Texans his collarbone is not a major factor in what they would do.

:redtowel:

Draft a guy how has hurt the thing in the last two games he has played?

:redtowel:

If it comes down to Levi Brown or AP. Oh we best take Brown.

How many people with injuries do have to put up with before people realize that its not good business?

Boselli
Hollings

AP has an upright running style, right? He broke his collar bone, twice - in a back to back games. Guys in the NFL are much bigger, faster, and better. Couple that with the upright thing. Hmmm.

We need to get over the "local" hero thing.

Assuming he is drafted as an LT how do you rectify the above notion knowing that this behemoth is carrying all of that weight, 328 lbs, on a left knee that was sprained two years ago and recently had a torn meniscus?

How many RT's are drafted in the top half of the first round for right handed QB's?

Brown - TWO years ago SPRAINED a knee.

A former defensive tackle, Brown went on to start every game (45) during his Nittany Lions career, including 44 contests at the demanding left offensive tackle position. Brown generates outstanding pop on contact coming off the snap, but was BOTHERED by a torn meniscus in his left knee during the 2006 season.

INJURY REPORT

2004: Sat out the Purdue game (10/09) with a left knee sprain that he suffered the previous week vs. Minnesota.

2006: Suffered a left knee torn meniscus when his cleat got caught in the ground while he was executing a redirection play in practice the week before the Northwestern game (9/30), missing that game and the following contest vs. Minnesota (10/07) after undergoing arthroscopic surgery.

AP - In DECEMBER hurt/tweak/broke his collarbone for the second time in the same calendar year.

Despite injury problems in his three seasons at Oklahoma (dislocated left shoulder, right high ankle sprain, broken right clavicle), Peterson became the first player in school history to eclipse 3,000 rushing yards in two seasons.

INJURY REPORT

2004: Dislocated his left shoulder in fall drills and re-injured it several times during the season, requiring surgery in January 2005.

2005: Bothered all season by a chronic right high ankle sprain that eventually forced him to miss the Baylor game (10/22) and more than two quarters of action in each of the Kansas State (10/01), Texas (10/08) and Kansas (10/15) contests.

2006: Suffered a left collarbone fracture vs. Iowa State (10/14), sitting out the next seven contests vs. Colorado, Missouri, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Nebraska.

How many RBs with 3 years worth of "injury problems" are drafted in the top 10?

If he wasnt from TX, would we care? I like the guy and all, but where is he going to run and how is Schaub going to throw if we keep throwing a bunch of yahoos together to "block"?

If AP is the best player on the board, cool whatever take him. My choice is, and will always be the big uglies.

I consider him from Southern Oklahoma so geography does not come in to play for me. What does come into play is that his injury is not on the knee. Moreover, our offensive line issue has only been in pass pro, not run blocking, and some would say that was more a function of the QB not being an NFL caliber QB.

I happen to believe our current big uglies will be looking prettier given Schaub is behind Center. Ryan Kalil in a trade down situation would be my pick, btw.

I personally wouldn't care if he came from Alaska. I just believe in taking the best player available in the first rd at a position of need. RB is certainly not a high need imo, but it's not as if it's not at all a need, and if you have a chance to draft a franschise back you take him if you don't have one, and we don't. Having said that, I still feel (even after this latest news) that it is unlikely he drops to 10, but if he does, I think I pull the trigger unless we get a very good trade down offer.

it is a crap shoot on injuries..

Joppru,DD in the nfl ;injury prone.. it happens

Frank Gore, Magahee (if i spelled that right) have come back from injuries in college and have done well in the NFL...

Destiny rears its ugly head on some athlete's careers and on other athlete's it is looks away

I'm not sure what to think of this. Based upon their past history, the Texans Drs giving the :ok: to AP's shoulder is meaningless to me. As a fan, I don't trust their evaluations. Still, I think Peterson would have the biggest impact on this team. If healthy. I don't know what I would do if Peterson would fall to #10.

What I do know is that if the Texans pass on him, and Peterson goes on to become the next Dickerson, all we'll hear is "The Texans blew another draft by passing on a local star." Forget that 9 other teams would have to pass on AP...that won't matter. Not saying that this scenario should have any bearing on the Texans decision. Just doing a little pre-cringing.

Yeah, those same doctors gave Tony Boselli a clean bill of health, didn't they?

What I do know is that if the Texans take him, and Peterson goes on to become the next Charles Rogers, all we'll hear is "The Texans blew another draft by taking a guy with injury concerns." Forget that 9 other teams passed on AP for that reason...that won't matter. Not saying that this scenario should have any bearing on the Texans decision. Just doing a little pre-cringing.

If people go through life worried what other people think of them they will never be successful. Trust your employees, trust their collective expertise and wisdom, trust your draft board and execute. One last thing is to go with your gut. Once you have a result you get better from it by doing an exercise such as what to start, stop and continue from an action standpoint.

If the Texans worry about what people think then they do not represent Texans well at all.
