pre-draft conference at noon

I like the commentary about integrating all their stand alone scouting systems and compiling the database so it is more user friendly. From what I understood, Casserly didn't like computers much.

they're still wishy washy when asked about c. spencer.
why is that so bad? Keep the other teams guessing...don't let them know if you may pull the trigger on a guy like Brown if he is there...it's all leverage right now...as fans, we will know soon enough.

right, right. ... i'm just a concerned fan.

...

He told the press that he informed McNair how they did it in the NFL and their scouting department has enough info after reviewing 2 game tapes....

.... oh wait, that was Casserly.

Agree with above - what a complete 180 we have leading our Texans now. Sounds like they're actually talking with each other and all parties involved are having a say. It's beautiful.

:texflag:

That was interesting.
And after watching and listening to Rick Smith those few minutes, all I can say is we had better enjoy him while he's with us, because its only a matter of time before he's off to bigger and better things.

Why?--if he is successful, McNair will pay to keep him. If he isn't, why would people be beating down his door?

I've heard this complaint before from scouting personnel. A refusal to embrace newer, more efficient digital systems and a lack of integration or sensible coordination of available resources.

Vinny, that also stood out for me. Integrating everything and not having stand alone sections, I guess I am smarter than I think I am but I thought that would be a given?

At least he gave all the Draft Landry guys a woody by saying he would not have a problem drafting a safety in the first or the seventh.

The only complaint I have about the presser is that you can not hear the questions being asked. I would like to know what they are.

And you're left to draw conclusions about what the questions were thru his responses.
Like when Smith laughed, almost giggled when he said something about not sharing what was in his "heart of hearts". I assume someone asked him which player he really was most excited about ? Or something along those lines ?

Or when he told "John" I am not going to answer that and you know it ... or something to that effect.

I asked this in another thread and I was hoping TC would be answer it, but they do not even put in the questions in the print media ..... Newspapers mostly, and they have some random quote. My only guess is that they do not want to give someone some free pub, but dang it that does not help the reader.

I could hear all of the questions just fine. I was wearing earbuds though so that could have helped. He said "No. I won't answer that" to John when John asked who they've picked in their own mock drafts (stupid question).

it almost seems unfair that we have such a smart GM, this guy is gonna be really something, i like this guy

He had me at "Hello"

Seriously, it was night and day listening to him as opposed to Charlie Asserly....did I spell that right? :winky:

I could listen to Smith talk all day even though we don't know much more than we did before the conference. I do come away feeling like we'll do well in the draft and won't be plagued by those "what the $%^&" moments that Asserly gave us.

Can someone give us a brief runthrough on what all was said?

He started off by saying that the Titants and the Cowboys suck followed by the Jags are the Texans personal Biatch.

The he talked about how he took all the info and combined it in to one data base and linked it so when you pull up a player you have all his info even the info of the scouting report when he was in college (examble if it is a vetern player)

He said Spencer is still an unknown and they are going forward as though he will not be available next season. When asked on different positions of needs and interrested he did say, that he is not sure yet but that Gaurd and Safety are completely different than a few years ago about not being a position you would take this high in the first round.

No he wont discuss trades or who they like the most or who he has on his bedroom wall with hearts all over it. Typical news conferance, except the part about redoing who information is linked.
