landry vs nelson vs.....kenny phillips

everyone wants to compare landry and nelson. kenny phillips will probably come out next year...what do you have to say about him?

Phillips is a better player and prospect than ST was in college. Imagine combining ST's size/speed and hitting with Ed Reed's natural feel and field leadership and intangibles...and you have yourself Kenny Phillips.

Sorry, but Laron Landry does not look average or mediocre compared to anyone at his position. I've read all the analysis on this board about Landry, analysis probably formed in many cases on the basis of having watched a game or two. I've seen this guy play for all four of his years at LSU, and he's an absolute animal.

Incredible combination of speed, strength, and fierceness. Consistently reads the QB well and picks up the right receiver. He closes to the ball like a missile and is a strong open field tackler. The guy simply gets to the ball fast and blows people up, time and again.

I've read so much here about him not being enough of a ballhawk because he hasn't piled up INT's. That's because he spends a lot of time picking up and covering the receiver in his area so he's not open to throw to in the first place or he delivers jarring hits to prevent the catch. There's a perception that he plays the run well but not the pass, yet after watching him for four years and about 50 games, I can tell you he is also very good against the pass. The INT stats don't look gaudy, but he reads, covers and closes quite effectively.

And for good measure, besides the unreal skills, strength, athletic ability and mean streak, the guy is awfully durable. He didn't miss much action at LSU. If he lands in a Texan uniform, he'll be a great one for us.

How do you know he isnt average compared to the other FS when you dont watch their games to. I dont remember anybody on here saying Laron Landry was bad against the pass were just saying he isnt as good as Reggie Nelson.

I havn't seen phillips play but apparently he's amazing. If he's really really really good i don't think we'd have a chance to draft him unless we traded up. Whatever his character issues are though it could drop him like Meriweather

not comparing the two athletically eventhough BM is good ..lol bm. anyways but w/ meriweathers character concerns it could drop him to the 2nd. it could drop phillips down to 10 or so...no idea where he's projected at this point but i've seen most of the mocks with him top 10.

The truth is, I've only seen Reggie Nelson play in two games. One was against Vanderbilt, where their secondary gave up over 200 yards recieving to one Vandy reciever. The other was the national championship game, where he blew a couple tackles. Yeah, he's good. But, the truth is, how many of us have watched all of these guys games. Nelson's good, Landry's good. Tell me which one of them is a harder worker that loves to play football, and that's the guy that I want.

Call me crazy, but who the hell is Kenny Phillips and who do he play for? just curious!!

Kenny Phillips is the next great player from the U. He is a FS/SS. Basicly he is built like ST, but better than him in every single aspect. Combine Ed Reed and ST, and you get Phillips.

i wouldn't call him better than taylor yet. only because i've never seen a safety with the athletic ability and ridiculous instincts of sean taylor, and never seen anyone close to that. but phillips could get there with another year under his belt.

Yeah, I don't think phillips is on Taylor's level just yet. Not to take anything away from kenny, but sean was amazing in college. he wasn't the leader reed was, but was every bit as good on the field. I'm sure everyone here remembers all the threads about him leading up to the 04 draft.
