DeMeco Ryans Interview

OMG, Demeco wanted Carr gone too, the bastard! :)

Good interview, short and to the point. Thanks for the linkie!

CS: Is there one position on defense you’d like the Texans to address in the draft?

Ryans: I think we need a safety and we could make some moves at linebacker. I think safety would be a move in the draft, and another linebacker is a possibility to add some competition to the position. I think safety would be the position.
I wonder if he wants a safety

you know i can't say enough about this young man...this guy has been everything and more his first year...i can't wait to see what he does this season now fully knowing the defense...i truely believe we have found a huge piece of the puzzle with him...i see him being a derrick brooks type player...one who will always be mentioned as a guy who doesn't have the best size but has the best heart when playing the game and being off the field

What I think is interesting is Demeco's desireto play MLB. Everyone keeps saying how he's better suited to play OLB, but apparently he thinks differently.

Nice read; Thank you for the link. DeMeco was just mentioned on the NFLN as the #4 overall defensive player of the 2006 season. I am glad he is here and I agree with him, we need LaRon if he falls to 10.

Wow I am going to have to rethink every thing I thought about the Texans needs. yes he is not FO, but still i never would have guessed the two biggest ares are FS and LB. For sure I saw upgrading CB over Faggins and an edge pass rusher as higher needs. You never know what the FO is thinking.

Great interview man. He said the facts we all knew, give him credit for expressing this mind .........

When you suck, you suck and Carr sucked big time here ..

Damn good interview with Ryans, with him, Mario, Daunte and hopefully the
Texans can get a saftey or another corner I can see this defense being one of the leauges best, but what do I know I am just another Texans fan

It's Dunta. Don't worry though; a lot of posters make the same mistake. So for everyone reading who doesn't know, it's Dunta.

Oh and the interview was awesome. A quality individual, and I can guarantee that Ryans will remain at MLB. I wish Danny Clark the best at outside linebacker.

the question is now...after a strong rookie year how does he follow that up...how long will it take for him to grab the attention of the rest of the nation and start getting to the pro bowl

if the defense goes the way i believe it will we should have about three or four guys on this team that should garner pro bowl selections:

andre johnson of course...the best receiver in the game should be there every year

demeco ryans...he has to beat a lot of guys out in the AFC to get there but he can do it...us as fans just need to get together and make sure he wins the fan vote

dunta robinson...hopefully he gets his INT # back to where it was his rookie year

and of course we have mario williams...if he starts playing the way he did in college he should be a no brainer to get to hawaii

i only hope ryans gets more control of this defense...he obviously has the leadership capabilities and i think he could really be the emotional leader of this team...and from what i've seen he's a strong leader to follow

That was a very good article. I like the fact that he thinks he could've done a better job last year and is working hard to do that this year. I'm really looking forward to watching him explode into action next year along with Mario. The Texans just might have a Dynamic Duo on defense witha healthy Mario.

I'm very glad we went and got his signature during the signing last year, got a full sized helmet and football with his sig. and samkon gado. BTW he is and awesome guy real down to earth.

I knew you guys would like that interview. Ryans is an awesome player and really spoke his mind... Props to Steuber for that interview.

How can you not love Demeco Ryans? Dude wants comp at the LB spot even though he is the star there.

He didn't specify a LB spot, either. He just said LB. I have a feeling he would be hard to beat out of his positin, regardless of who was brought in. Ray and Brian, meet your DADDY!!!!

CS: What was it like learning a pro defense compared to a college defense?

Ryans: It came to me naturally once they moved me to the middle. They had me playing outside and I always liked playing middle linebacker, but in college, I was stuck playing strong side linebacker.

Something for those who want to move Demeco outside to think on. Looks like he and I agree on the safety position as well.

It's always nice when players come out and are on the same wave length as 'some' fans...

What I found interesting is that even after getting Clark and Baber, he still wants us to get deeper at LB.

He speaks his mind, told it like he saw it on the QB situation, called out the saftey position

I love it, he is a true leader and will accept nothing short of success

IMO, WLB is the second biggest weakness on our defense besides FS....

People may not realize it, but Greenwood is terrible...

I was thinking the same thing, Ryans has no problem with Greenwood but he wants him to earn the spot. sounds like a 4/5 round draft pick

(want does "IMO" stand for)

Not everyone thinks that Greenwood is going to make it through camp in the year of the Casserlybadcontractpurge. Keith over at hpf has speculated on this topic and he knows what he is talking about.

I love DeMeco and agree with what he said about us needing an upgrade at the safety position but IMO it is wrong for players to talk negatively about team mates with the media.

It doesn't help and in some scenarios can actually make things worse...like what DRob said about the need for a change at the QB position did to Smith's job of getting us something for Carr.

Kubiak and Smith need to get this stuff to stop IMO.

IMO, it's not like the team was getting a lot for carr before d-rob's comment. for the most part, I think they are just stating the obvious. Ryans never said greenwood sucks, he said he wants competition

I don't know who Keith is but I hope he's right...

Greenwood should have made MUCH more plays playing the WLB in the 4-3...especially with Mario playing on his side...

But that's JMO.

I was really referring to his comment regarding the need at "safety" (again a point that I violently agree with btw). You are correct of course that Drob's comments did not cost us the difference between a lot for Carr and zero...the question is did it hurt our chances to get something a bit more than zero?

I think Carr's choice not to redo his contract made the cold piazzia thing with e-rob a mute point, but that is just me.

As far as the corner positon, McCleon has not been signed so the only candidates for the nickel is wynn or roc,. If we grabb Laundry or Nelson but wait for day 2 for a cb, I don't see how that improves the team.

well keep in mind that's why the team has brought in shawn barber...who i think has the best chance of beating greenwood out...and i also believe somewhere in round 5-7 they'll draft another LB who can be developed to take over that position...i don't really have a problem with greenwood...i think he's a solid LB in this league...i just don't think he's playing up to his contract...which creates a problem with me
