What other changes does the offense need to make?

Most fans thought that the QB trade was a great step towards a positive season. But what other chages need to be made in order to make the Texans a force to be reckoned with?

Any Suggestions??? :fortune:

We really need a complimentary receiver to line up opposite AJ.

We also need to solidify the line.

Those are the two personel moves we need to make to get better.

The Texans offense needs to figure out what it is.

Is it Denver south?

Is it a mixed up hybrid between Denver/Green Bay? Finesse v. Power? Can the same Oline personnel do both?

I'd like the efficiency that showed up in the first offensive drives of games to carry over to the rest of the game. That should happen when players get more used to the system, though Schaub is going to have to get more comfortable with it.

It would be lovely if the Texans could have good running AND good passing in the same game. Happened rarely last season.

I want a swagger transplant.

Oh, and a #2 receiver and Oline and some depth would be nice.

Agreed, but another RB might be nice to build on. I wouldn't mind Marshawn Lynch at #10... since Green is likely only in town for 2 years.

I don't think that is the biggest need... but a legit C would be nice as well as a FB.

All we need is a Center and WR2 and we are ready to roll. Pitts and Weary are the starting Guards, Winston and Spencer are second year Tackles, we signed Black and Saalam to back them up and the only question mark on the line is at center.

Schaub, Ahman Green, Andre Johnson, and Owen Daniels will make a fantastic skill base to add a WR2. I think our offense is just about set.

I will one up you here and say this will be the most exciting Texans offense in our franchises history. Can't wait for preseason to start.

Apparently, the best center in the draft will be available late in the first (I don't even know a name...just heard this on the radio this morning). I'd love to trade down and get that missing peice on the o-line with our first pick. We need to go defensive back field with the second, but I think we can find a WR in the third round (again, I know nothing, just have heard WR is deep in this year's draft).

I'm not going to be surprised if a few more deals and moves are made and we end up with Kalil (Center) late in the 1st round. I would be ecstatic with that.

I'm worried about Spencer and would like some more talent on the line, especially at tackle. I don't know if Levi Brown is the tackle we need or if we'll get him at 10. Part of me would like secondary help early in this draft.

I would also like to see some more WR help but this draft is supposed to be deep in WR and we can probably pick someone up. I'm still really sad Moulds is gone.

I'm not going to be upset if we leave RB for next year.

The team NEEDS to keep working on that OLine! I would not be upset if the team picks up Levi Brown. Also, a center, & another guard would be nice! We just need to give Matt some time to throw! It's like buying those annoying & expensive service/protection plan for your pricey plasma TV!:) OK ya'll....bad comparison! Plus a 2nd WR would be nice.:joker: :elmo: :snobord:

How many tackles are you going to carry? We have Winston, Spencer, Salaam, and Black. No way we carry 5 of them.

Your starting o-line for '07 is already on the roster. I wouldn't be shocked if the next little scenario is if we get Jopru II with a Ginn Jr. or Rice pick at the ten now. That'll fill in the little missing pieces we need to over take the colts.

It's a conspiracy against the Buc's, they hoarded all the QB's so now maybe they can teach Simms how to play left tackle... :joker:

I don't know that Spencer is coming back. With Winston, Salaam, and Black... wouldn't you like to have one more guy?

And if Spencer comes back, you can cut or trade Salaam or Black.

Kubiak said that he wasn't going to make the mistake of expecting guys to come back like he did last year.

I agree with O line and #2 WR.

That being said, I think that our offense (and defense) could be helped tremendously with better special teams. We always seem to lose the battle of field position due to special teams. I know we just resigned Stanley but I hope that we can bring in another punter during training camp to challenge. I also hope that Mathis will realize what a great oppurtunity he has in Houston and begins to act like a team player, he has the ability to be the best return man in the league (maybe second best with Hester) but I would also love to see him line up @ WR to help strectch the field. Honestly, I am out of the loop regarding Mathis. Any information on his status/mind set would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think any lineman in the draft other than Thomas is worthy of the #10 pick so I think we should trade down to try and get lineman towards the end of round one and an add'l pick or draft defensive secondary (another huge need).

As far as WR - I don't think it is possible, but I would love to get Gonzalez from OSU.

Great comment. What is needed to make the schemes work? What type of personnel is needed? Run-offense vs. pass-offense.

That's not saying much...

Unfortunately, the Texans have two very serious problems on their hands (offensively speaking). They must have a #2 wide receiver. It's obvious the difference in AJ's play when he has a credible wide receiver lining up with him (and is not being double-teamed throughout the game). The Texans also need to upgrade the Center and the Left Tackle. However, after all the moves they've made and the picks they've given away, I'm assuming that Center/LT will have to wait till next year. That's too bad because I think all these offensive weapons will look pretty limp without a line in front of them.

I think if the 10 is not traded, we should go with defense. I think a #2 wr can be had @ 3rd round. I think Carr will eventually command a 3rd but we may have to agree to eat part of salary.

Don't we already have a boatload of centers (Flanagan, Hodgdon, McKinney)?

And, to anyone who watched games in person last season (I live in Florida, so I rarely get to watch games)... where was our line the weakest? It seems to me that with Black, Spencer, Winston and Salaam (and possibly Levi Brown) at tackle and Weary and Pitts at guard... what moves would/should we make?

It seems to me that we need stronger guards, but most of what's being said here would contradict that.

WR2 is by far the biggest need on offense, and maybe the team at this point. There are some really good burners, and some WCO guys like Bowe. There are about 10 WR's that could fit as a WR 2 in this offense. Good draft to get one, and I think we will on the first day.

If Spencer is healthy, I think we already have our starting line. If not, we need a good prospect there as ins. I am ok with Black/Salaam in the shorter term, but if it's not Spencer, we have to have someone capable asap in that spot.

Mckinney has been kicked around a lot on this forum, including by me, but did anyone notice his run blocking when he was inserted at C late last yr? Ya, he allows too much push up the middle on pass plays, but he is adequate overall for now. If a great propspect is available, we need to think about it, but it's not my first prioirty.

I don't know if I would consider Spencer a 2nd year player, even if his leg is 100%. His pro experience can be counted in minutes.

He will have two NFL training camps under his belt and was a no brainer starter last year. semantics. I doubt the Texans draft a 3rd first day tackle after signing two vets to back up both of last year's first day tackle picks.

David Carr and our 4th rounder to Miami for a their 2nd rounder.
#10 overall to the Denver Broncos for #21 overall, their 3rd and their 4th.
We draft:

1st round (#21): Reggie Nelson
2nd round (fm Miami): Justin Blalock
3rd round: Ryan Harris
3rd round (fm Denver): Kareem Brown
4th round: Daymeion Hughes/Michael Coe
4th round (fm Denver): Desmond Bishop
5th round: David Ball
6th round: Jared Zabransky
7th round: Oscar Lua

I think this would be PERFECT!

I will agree with you IF the coaching staff and front office have confidence that Spencer will be ready to go for AT LEAST the regular season, better if it's Preseason or training camp. I don't know that they've got confidence in Salaam or Black anchoring the line full-time.

Maybe we should call it the GCO(Gulf Coast Offense), then we could define it according to how Schaub runs it. Do we get a little more vertical than the WCO? Do we STAY a little shorter than the WCO? Do we actually get a running game like Denver? Lots of ifs.

I think we just need to utilize owen Daniels more, even with the deep ball, to take some pressure off of AJ. A #2 wr would be great, but id rather focus on the oline first then worry about #2 wr later. just my opinion!

vin,

Do you have some reason to be more optimistic about Spencer's recovery than the rest of us? I loved this guy's play from what I had seen early and felt gutshot when he went down...but I haven't seen anything to suggest that he'll be 100% by the start of the season.
