Yes.

He was the best available alternative to Carr.

I am a Carr fan but he seemed to lose the faith of the team which is enough for me to say goodbye, have a nice career with the Raiders. Hope to beat you in the playoffs sometime.

No I don't like the trade (conditionally). We paid to much with 2 2nd round picks going to Atlanta. Unless we can pick up a 2nd round for Carr this year and next, but I do not believe Carr will bring this type of offer. IMHO.

He is better than Jesus Rosenfelds. If we would have already moved Carr, I would say that the trade was a good thing. It is not a good thing for giving up two #2 picks. That's too steep a price to pay for a three year backup.

I would have preferred to play Carr or Rosenfels for another year and draft and groom our own QB.

Before you reply that Schaub has three years experience and would be better than drafting an unproven rookie....Schaub has proven nothing yet, and Carr and Rosenfels also have NFL experience.

Without doing the research I would imagine there have been more failures than success stories when trading for someone else's backup QB.

We paid too much.

The Texans are still my team and I will support Schaub as staunchly as I have been supporting Carr.

Carr and the Texans will both be better off now. But the fact remains that Carr never had a chance to succeed here. I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up.

Wonder who will be the first here to display a fire Schaub avatar?

Now that would make for a good thread.

Here's to Schaub :shots: making the pro bowl next year.

I like it. We needed a change of QB and Carr needed a change of scenery.

As far as the draft picks goes...I have a feeling we'll be trading down further in the first and recouping picks in the process. there's a lot of time left before the second round of the NFL draft.

I love this trade. I still think that if Carr can get his head together he may do well, but not in Houston.

I welcome Matt Schaub with open arms.

i got to see a ton of matt schaub while he played at virginia. statistically, schaub was their version of philip rivers. he's accurate, heady, and has good size. i would've loved for him to land with the panthers, but i am happy for him anyways.

Carr will excel wherever he goes, and I understand the bad blood between Carr and Houston. However, unless they find a way to recoup the picks they gave up for Schaub, I think this was a bad deal. The major areas that need to be improved are offensive line, defensive line, and defensive secondary. This doesn't fix any of those, but we just took away a couple of chances to fix those problems.

This is a bold move that had to be made. The fans screamed to get rid of carr, and what else could the FO do? Draft another pretty boy first rounder that we cant afford, who will immediately be compared to david? Trade for the rights to a retired player?

This was the best QB prospect available, the fans wanted a new QB, Rick Smith made the deal. And it was steep but I beleive it will work.

THE ERA OF MATTITUDE HAS ARRIVED!!

I said yes with a Astrix. If they trade Carr and try hard to get at lease a 3rd round pick and than trade down and get some extra picks fingers cross maybe a 2nd in the trade down than yes it would be a homerun. Boy these guys are really showing that they are trying to get this team to were it should be by now. Do not underestimate Kubes and Smith.

I voted NO!

Listining to the commentary about this trade, people are saying why?
He's less mobile than Carr, you don't even know what he's capable of. He's too unknown. No wins, 6 TD's and 6 int's.

I said it before however, that I will bow to the decisions made by the FO and coaching and I'm a man of my word. Welcome to Houston Matt Schaub.

No second round choice for 2 consecutive years... this guy better be one hell of a QB or we just gave away two 8-10 year starters on potential. I dont like it, unless we can get a second rounder for Carr, I think we would have been better off waiting for a better situation.

Aside from the fact that we gave up too much, I like the trade very much.

To me, it is the first sign that we're moving on from being an expansion team.

It says to me that we care more about results (or lack thereof) than potential.

Good for us.

.. and then?
Yes, we were going to draft a QB anyway this year or at latest a next in the 2nd round I'm sure - well, we just did with some NFL sideline grooming experience. I see it as giving up an extra 2nd rounder.

LMAO...and this is based on what? Too bad he chose not to "excel" here.

Remember that we "potentially" gave up 2 "potential" 8-10 yr starters for a "potential" star QB. I'm still not happy about the deal, but it IS a done deal and we're all talking hypothetically, anyway. One thing is certain. I will be watching all the players we miss out on because of this deal.

I really think it depends on what we can get for Carr.

If we can get a 2008 2nd round pick(which is comperable to a 3rd round 2007 pick), then to us as fans, its really only like we gave one 2nd round pick for Matt.

I like the fact that Carr is out, and that we replaced him with a 6'5" 237 vetteran that alot of people think will do great.

I am hoping that they give us a second player in return for our 2 second round picks! We really need some extra help at other positions. They have a lot of good WR who underperform with Vick.

I agree with this, personally. Right now I'm on the fence - where my own feelings fall will depend a lot on what we get for David Carr. And I hate to admit it but i think a lot of posters on these boards are right: if a deal's not already in place we'll be lucky to get anything at all. If that's the case, effectively our 2nd and 3rd rounders (in terms of value) seems kind of expensive to me.

Yea it seems like a tad bit much but it's a good gamble, we could have possibly pulled off the best rape job since Green Bay traded away a 1st rounder for Favre

Yeah, but y'all let the wrong QB go. The only title Vick is getting is the QB rushing title.:)
A lot of Falcons fans feel the same way. But they don't get the whole picture. Most of the time when Vick runs it's not by choice. We had an undersized crappy O-line under that rotten Gibbs cut-blocking scheme which works great for run blocking but sucks ass at pass blocking. We also have WR's that drop 90% of the balls that hit them in the numbers. But getting rid of Gibbs and his undersized runts with Petrino rebuilding it into a power spread, and adding some hogs at the O-line will help Vick a lot. I would have liked to have seen what Schaub would have done in that system, but you guys gave us too good a deal to pass up.

Everyone knows that this move is a gamble, and anyone can complain about overpaying or this, that or the other.

To me, I just like seeing our front office finally trying to make some moves. This entire offseason we've been trying to fill holes, get into position to get better, and not just sit on our sub-.500 laurels.

Maybe Schaub's a phenom, maybe he's a bust... likely he's somewhere in between. But at least our guys are trying to give us a change, and a chance to climb out of the basement. I like it.

I hear ya, but Vick never has and probably never will be a true passer. I think he's a great athlete, just not a great QB.:)

We did give Atlanta a good deal, no doubt. OTOH, I think Houston got a decent deal too. It's not over yet either. I think Smith is going to do his best in order to get some picks back. They probably won't be #2s, but somethings better than nothing.

Vick is the best non throwing QB i've ever seen :)

No, Hoorible trade for a back up who is 0-2 as a starter on a good team (oh yeah that team that beat him once was a Carr lead Texans where both Carr and Vick were out yet Carr came in with a badly hurt arm and made a run for 30 yards to set up the winning FG).

Way to much for a guy who has done nothing.
